 Clifford Smith

Clifford Smith, 89, of Poteau, passed away Feb. 7, 2009, at Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center in Poteau. He was born Jan. 24, 1920, in Blue Mountain, Ark. He was a coal miner and a merchant. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was of the Southern Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita; a son, Randy Smith, three grandsons, Bobby Glen Johnson, Shawn Smith and Chris Smith; and two brothers, Thurman Lee Smith and Bobby Smith.

He is survived by a son, Clifford “Arnold” Smith of Sallisaw; three daughters, Marie McCroskey of Poteau, Nancy Johnson of Amarillo, Texas, and Cecelia Vermillion of Wister; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Jimmy Smith of Albuquerque, N.M., and Dorothy Smith of Newton, Kan.; numerous other relatives, friends and loved ones.

Services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Oakland Cemetery Pavilion, Poteau, with Rev. Jimmy D. Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau, is in charge of arrangements.
