Edwin "Buddy" Baker, 83, of Poteau, Oklahoma, passed
away at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, on
Tuesday, April 5, 2005. Buddy was born on March 16, 1922, in Poteau to
Murray and Ethel (England) Baker. Buddy worked as a delivery man for Acee
Milk Company for many years and was a musician. He played the steel guitar
for Oscar Boyd & The Oklahoma Coal Miners and the Sugarloaf Swing. He was
proud of the role he played in getting Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys into
Poteau recently. Buddy was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and a member of the
Mountain View Baptist Church in Glendale.

Buddy was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Eunice Baker; and a brother, Orben Baker.

He is survived by his wife, Devota, of the home; a son, Larry Allan Baker of Cleveland, Ohio; a daughter, Denise Wilkins of Houston, Texas; a sister, Patsy Saucier of Grapeland, TX; three brothers, Emel Baker and his wife, Phyllis of Wichita, Texas, Dr. Frank Baker and his wife, Phyllis of Norman, Oklahoma, and Murray (JR) Baker of San Antonio, Texas; a granddaughter, Jessica Janeway of Conroe, Texas; special friends Howard & Darlene Daggs of Greenwood, Arkansas, and many other loved ones and friends. Pallbearers will be John Hunt, Ronnie Burgess, Roy Carmack, Morris Elder, Les Odom, Bobby Glover

Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, April 8, 2005, at Grace Manor Memorial Chapel in Poteau with the Rev. Tim Trent officiating the services under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau.
