James H. Woolverton Jr., 78, of Poteau, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002.
He was born Oct. 1, 1923 in Fort Smith to James Henry Woolverton and Nora (Holt) Woolverton. James and his wife Virginia moved to Poteau four years ago. He was a member of Pentecostal Church of God in Poteau. He served in the Army during World War II and received Qualification Expert Infantryman with rifle, carbine and submachine gun, Asiatic Campaign, American Campaign, Good Conduct, Victory medals, the Distinguished Bronze Star and the Distinguished Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Norma (Trammel) Woolverton; a stepdaughter, Rhonda Howard; two brothers, Everett Woolverton and Earl Woolverton; and two sisters, Marie Reed and Eva Lee Allen.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Jimmy Ray Woolverton of Nobel; one daughter, Jeanie Jackson of Talihina; a stepson, Robert D. Morgan; one stepdaughter, Wanda Faye Cothren of Claremore; one brother, Michael Woolverton of Choctaw; one sister, Ruby Nell Crawford of Van Buren; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many beloved family members and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14 at the New Talihina Cemetery with the Revs. Clyde Hess and Jeff Little officiating, under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau.
