April 1947
George Alfred Vaughn moved to LeFlore Co., OK (Indian Territory) in the
late 1890s from Pope Co., AR with his family and his parents: Rev. John
Calhoun Vaughn and Rhoda Frances (Kindrick) Vaughn.
They settled in the Monroe community where George taught school, served on
the school board and ran a 'mom & pop' store. They moved to the Glendale
community, LeFlore County, where George farmed.
Their family attended the Mt. View Baptist Church where George served as
the first president of the Mt. View Cemetery preservation committee in
1911.
On 5 April 1947, a tornado killed George, his wife Nancy Ann (Treadwell)
Vaughn, his brother Henry Andrew Vaughn and his daughter Nancy Jewell (Vaughn)
Overholt. They are buried in the Mt. View Church Cemetery
next to George's parents.
