Howard Hugh Underwood, 71, of Spiro died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was a Navy veteran and a real estate agent with Marsha Rogers Realty in Spiro. He coached basketball for 34 years at Hanna, Monroe, Keota, Spiro and Panama, was inducted in the Oklahoma Coaches Hall of Fame and was a member of Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association and a member of Spiro First Baptist Church. He was a junior high principal for many years and owned and operated a service station at Sunset Corner.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Spiro First Baptist Church with burial at
Spiro City Cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.
He is survived by his wife, Dollie; a daughter, Rhonda Poulson of Conway; a son, Stephen Underwood of Spiro; three sisters, Marian Wright of Dallas, Betty Allbritton of Spiro and Bonnie Pendleton of Pocola; three brothers, Charles Underwood of Newalla, Okla., Joe Underwood of Panama and Jimmie Underwood of Spiro; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Enie Tobler, Tommy Roberson, Bill Greenwood, Robert Sheffield, Bill Mills, Newell Atkinson and Rucker Blankenship.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.
