Marjorie Louise Sweeten, 78, of Talihina, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2002. She was born June 17, 1924 at Athens, Texas to Commodore Solomon Carter and Myrtle Hughes-Carter. She was known as one of the best basketball players ever to come out of Whitesboro School. She was proposed to while playing piano at Wadesville Church. Marjorie was a loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother. Her favorite saying was, "Keep smiling." Marjorie was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and the Prairie Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Bill Carter, Jess Carter, Webb Carter, Bogue Carter, Doc Carter and Casey Carter; five sisters, Jane LaRue, Reatha Burleson, Ethel Vian, Lillian Dagley and Powell Jones.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Betty King of Lawton; three granddaughters, Katherine Lynn and Harold Gay and their children, Jessica, Amanda, Heather and Harry; Caroline Jennifer and Randy Rhoades and their children, Lindsay and Parker; Krista Rene and John McClinney and their son, Jonathan; two grandsons, Evan William King and Bobby King; one sister, Ruth Garrett of Talihina; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of beloved friends.

Services were at 10:30 am Monday, Dec. 9 at the Prairie Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Cecil Holcomb and Hollis Bond officiating. Burial followed at New Talihina City Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home of Talihina.

Pallbearers were John McClinney, Harold Gay, Randy Rhoades, Jerry Vadnais, Mike Vadnais and Donnie Holland.

Honorary pallbearers were Wes Thornhill, Riley Carter, Kermit Russell, Billy Carter, Timmy Holland, Albert Canaday, Blake Waggner and David Trowbridge.
