Ben H. Spencer, 72, of Holiday Island, Ark., passed away Thursday, June 13, 2002, in Fayetteville. He was born Sept. 3, 1929 in Barling, Ark. to Ben and Madeline Spencer. He married Janey Hill of Cameron on Nov. 24, 1947. He was a retired Air Force Captain. He was a deacon at Dove Circle Baptist Church. After retirement he and Janey settled in Cameron for awhile and Ben became a cattle rancher. Later they moved to Fort Smith where they lived for 24 years before retiring a second time and moving to Holiday Island. This has been their home from 1995 until the present.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Janey of the home; one daughter, Sherrie Ferguson of Oklahoma City; one son, Ben H. Spencer Jr. of Broken Arrow; five grandchildren, Aaron Ferguson of Edmond, Angie Baird of Oklahoma City, Kyle, Craig and Scott Spencer of Broken Arrow; six great-grandchildren, A.J., Austin, Aiden and Anna Beth Ferguson and Emma and Lindsey Baird; two brothers, Buddy of Sallisaw and Jimmy of Durant; two sisters, Rosemary Vikander of San Diego and Anita (Clark) Ashley of Oklahoma City.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 17 at Dove Circle Baptist Church in Holiday Island. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau at 4 p.m. Monday, June 17.

Memorials may be made to Dove Circle Baptist Church Building Fund, 6 Dove Circle, Holiday Island, AR 72631.
