Melvin Earl Shockley, 71, of Poteau, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, in Ft. Smith. He was born Oct. 1, 1928, in Mayville, Oregon. He was retired from Alltel phone company and a veteran of the U. S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Shockley of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Jody Webb of Muldrow; two sons and daughters-in-law, Monte and Rita Shockley and Jeff and Connie Shockley of Poteau; five grandchildren, Sarah Webb, Monte II, Brooke, Tyler, and Taylor Shockley; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and loved ones; and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the Oakland Cemetery Pavilion in Poteau.
Phil Powers will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home in Poteau.
