Peggy Jo "Stine" Roop, 76, of Heavener, passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, in Poteau. She was a longtime resident of Heavener, and a member and past Sunday School teacher of Loving Baptist church. She was awarded Chart Room Hostess, Anchorage, Alaska of the Year in 1961, Heavener Kiwanis Club President in 1996, Kiwanis Lt. Governor District 31 in 1998 and 1999, a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivor Association, served as councilwoman for the city of Heavener from 1997 to 2001, and was Honorary Citizen of Fort Smith in 1997.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry E. Roop; and one son, Gary E. Roop.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Wiles and husband Raymond and Lynne Pitchford and husband Bill, all of Heavener, and Donna Miller and husband Loyce of Mustang; one son, Donald Ray Roop and wife Joy of Heavener; one cousin, Juanita McMahan of Henderson, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Kim Hall, Kevin Wiles, Kellie Sanders, Jerry W. Pitchford, Gwen Pitchford, Amy Green, Gary Don Wiles, Deon Roop, Angel Frank and Sasha Gilbert; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8 at Loving Baptist Church. Burial will follow in
Loving Cemetery under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
