Geneva G. Oglesby, 89, of Poteau, died Saturday, October 9, 1999, in Fort Smith. She was born September 4, 1910, in Hartford, Ark. She was a homemaker. God and the church ministry were her life, as well as her family. She had 45 years in the ministry, three years of that she helped pastor a church in LeFlore. She led the church choir and taught Sunday School class for 75 years having started at age 12 and she was Sunday School secretary for one year.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. W. R. Oglesby; her brother, Cecil Boren; and sisters, Verla Johnson and Madeline Driver; and a step-son, Benny Oglesby.
She is survived by one daughter, Doris Oglesby of the home; three step-daughters, May Riley of Atlanta, Georgia, Loma Hodges of Dothan, Alabama, and Vertie Hurches of Rock Falls, Illinois; three sons, Roy E. Clayton of Pittsboro, N. Carolina, Cecil Clayton of Fayetteville, Ark., and Raymond Oglesby of Tulsa; three step-sons, Homer Oglesby of Poteau, Thomas Oglesby of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Dallas Oglesby of Oklahoma City; one sister, Barbara Mount of Tulsa; 8 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at First Assembly of God Church of Poteau with burial at
Oakland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Wilson, Homer Oglesby, Homer Oglesby, Jr., Jeff Callaway, Gary Newby, and Jimmy Hebert.
Reverend Keith Williams will officiate.
