Alvessie Nelson, 92, of Poteau, passed away Friday, Nov. 1, 2002. She was born Sept. 3, 1910 at Poteau. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Nelson; two sons, William Delbert Nelson and Charles Alfred Nelson; one grandson, Timothy A. Davis; one great-grandson, Jason Lee Davidson; her parents, James Alfred and Janie Esther (Patterson) Qualls; five brothers; and five sisters.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty Black of Poteau, Patsy Lorene Mills of Newcastle and Billie Mae Chadwick of Enid; one son, Homer Leroy Nelson of Pocola; one sister, Velma Gower of Amarillo, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4 at Oakland Cemetery Pavilion at Poteau with the Rev. Jimmy D. Cook officiating, under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
