Leonard Haskell "Bill" Monks, 85, of Panama, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, in Spiro. He was born July 13, 1915, in Calhoun. Mr. Monks was a retired coal miner and a rancher. He was an avid outdoors person who loved to camp, fish, and hunt. He attended Panama Assembly of God Church and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Monks was a Christian many, many years of the Pentecostal faith. He was concerned about his neighbors, and who didn't criticize other people; he tried to find good in everyone.
He was preceded in death by a son, Leo "Butch" Monks.
Survivors include his wife of 60 plus years, Eveline E. (Ward) Monks; sons and daughter-in-law, Leonard T. and Margaret Monks of Panama, and Larry Wayne Monks of Tulsa; daughter and son-in-law, Donna Sue and Ron Hunt of Hartshorne; three grandsons, David and wife Tammy of Duncan, Bradley and wife Jennifer of McAlester, and Kendall and wife Kelly of Panama; four great-grandsons; two sisters, Louise Rhode and Mary Fritz, both of Florida; and one brother, Leon Monks of Shady Point.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau with the Rev. Brian Smith and the Rev. Bryan Fouts officiating. Burial will follow in
Greenhill Cemetery in Cameron under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
Pallbearers will be Jack England, Carl Miller, Billy Joe
