Miss Tula Himes, 94, of Heavener, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2002.

She was a lifelong resident of Heavener, member of the First Baptist Church, taught school in LeFlore County for 46 years, two years at Stapp Zoe, two years at Hodgen, 16 years at Panama and 26 years at Heavener retiring in 1972. She was LeFlore County Teacher of the Year in 1960, a member of the Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association, and received 50 year pin from the Eastern Star in 1984 serving as Worthy Matron in Spiro in 1938.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ora Ann Himes; three sisters, Della Coon, Nova Jones and Lola Wisdom; three brothers, Jesse, Wayne and Omer Himes; two nephews, Felix Wisdom and John Himes; and one niece, Ora Alice Hurst.

Survivors include six nieces, Hilda Himes of Heavener, Oma Jean Hall of Poteau, Ruth Buteyn of Santa Monica, Calif., Merle Hamby of Corpus Christi, Texas, Fern Porter of Oklahoma City and Vera Hooper of Texas; and one nephew, Jack Himes of Heavener.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 24 at Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery in Heavener under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
