Jerry D. Cooper, 66, of Wister, passed away Friday, June 21, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was born Oct. 10, 1935 in Monroe. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wister, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and retired from Johnson Controls. He loved his grandchildren, loved watching them and participating in their various activities.
Survivors include his wife Josephine of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Marty and Dora Cooper of Wister; six grandchildren, Trevor Cooper, Travis Cooper, Emily Cooper, Cody Cooper, DelDeana Billinger and Monty Billinger; one sister, Sue Mahan of Rock Island; three brothers, Joe Cooper, Dickie Cooper and Ronnie Cooper, all of Poteau; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.
Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, June 24 at First Baptist Church in Wister with the Revs. Jimmy D. Cook and Clarence Barton officiating. Burial followed in
Summerfield Cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
Pallbearers were Bo Helmert, Joe Helmert, Larry Helmert, Duck Martin, Scott Shadwick and Bud Morgan. Honorary pallbearers were Marvin Pierce, Steve Walden, Thad Martin, Poose Martin, Tony Drury, Raymond Glenn, Eddie McCroskey, Jerry Harmon and Bill Ward.
