Kathlyeen (Katz) Burnett, 84, of Heavener, died Friday, October 8, 1999, in Fort Smith. She was a long time resident of Heavener and was a retired teacher, having taught and coached at Hartshorne (1937-41), Drumwright (1941-69) and Spiro (1970-77). She was a supporter and contributor of scholarships for students at Northeastern State University, Oklahoma Baptist University, and Carl Albert State College. She was recognized as an outstanding coach during her teaching career, having coached some state championship teams. Memberships and organizations include National Education Association, Oklahoma Education Association and LeFlore County Retired Teachers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Myrtle Burnett. She is survived by cousins, Teddy R. Livesay and Nancy J. Hamilton of Heavener, Tim Livesay of Tahlequah, Jack Smith of Shawnee, Wanda Burns of Victoria, Texas, and children of her cousins, Bill Smith, Fontina Callahan, Jimmie Monk, and Phyllis Smith.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Memorial Park in Heavener.
Arrangements are under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home in Heavener.
