Jimmy Dale Bates, 66, of Norman, formerly of Poteau, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002.
He was born July 15, 1936 at Shady Point. He taught 6th grade science at Poteau Public Schools for a number of years, attended Front Street Church of Christ and loved fishing, playing dominoes, watching softball games, and spoiling the grandchildren. He was an Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Barton; his parents, John C. and Ella Bates; and two brothers, Rufus Bates and Bethel Bates.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Kim Bates of Washington, Okla.; three granddaughters, Ashley Bates, Kynsey Bates and Shelby Bates, all of Washington; one grandson, Luke Allen Barton of Garland, Texas; four brothers, Harrell Bates and Reve Bates, both of Panama, Jay Bates of Spiro and John Bates of Owasso; one sister, Kathrine Guy of Lindsey; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau with Virgil Faris officiating.
Burial will follow in Old Bokoshe Cemetery at Bokoshe under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Davis, Mike Kemp, Bob Blake, Lundy Kiger, A.J. Henson, Barry Henry, Jim Anderson and Louis Gill.
