Ava Nell Turman, 81, of Heavener, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2003, at Fort Smith, Ark. She was a longtime resident of the area, a member of the First Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Eastern Star, Triple L, Missionary Union and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Ladies Auxiliary. She married her husband John R. Turman on Nov. 18, 1939.

She was preceded in death by her husband John R. Turman.

Survivors include two daughters, Janell Smedley of Poteau and Judith Ann and husband Bill Huie of Heavener; one son, Dr. Robert Allen "Bud" Turman of Sapulpa; two brothers, Hymon and Henryetta Russell of Tulsa and Byron and Anne Russell of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24 at First Baptist Church of Heavener. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
