Marie 'Brown' Newman, 87, of Wister, passed away Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, in Poteau. She was a long time resident of Wister and a member of the Wister Bethel Baptist Church. She spent her life making a home for her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Delmar "Bud" of 65 years; her parents, Urba and Georgia; and six sisters.

Survivors include one daughter, Lynda Baldwin and husband Larry of Wister; three sons, U.L. Newman and wife Barbara of Midwest City, Eudell "Peanut" Newman and Carrall Newman, both of Wister; three sisters, Bobbie Burgess of Heavener, Vivian Kitchens of Arkoma and Urbia Dean Earls of Wagoner; four grandchildren, Rodney Newman and wife Trish, Dennis Newman, Rae Lee Vanhook and husband Robert and Robine Cook and husband Johnny; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Austin, Sooner Marie and Abbygail; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at Wister Bethel Baptist Church. Burial followed in Summerfield Cemetery under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
