Nellie Irene Mathews, 88, of Arkoma, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2003, in Arkoma. She was born Nov. 3, 1914 at Tulsa to Lawrence and Jane (Bateman) Schoeppey. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Albert and Dave Schoeppey; one granddaughter, Ginger Johnson; one sister, Betty Craig; and one great-grandson, Matt Oxford.

Survivors include her husband Eugene Mathews of 71 years; three daughters, Mary Allbritton of Spiro; Janice Waters and husband Eddie of Gravite, Ark. and Linda Dix and husband Joe of Arkoma; three sons, Rex Mathews and wife Shirley of Fort Smith, Glen Mathews and wife Beverly of Runggold, La. and Neal Mathews and wife Linda of Shelbyville, Tenn.; one sister, Joann Eames and husband Buddy of Fort Smith; one brother Don Schoeppey and wife Ruby of Pocola; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 8 at the Arkoma First Baptist Church with the Revs. Rick Kestler and Larry Albritton officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Reed, Kyle Mathews, Jesse Mathews, Jonas Hammett, Shane Thompson and Shawn Thompson.
