The Rev. J.J. "Chief" Hendricks, 90, of Heavener, passed away Friday, July 18, 2003. He had been a resident of Heavener since 1967. He ministered at the Loving Baptist Church, the Independence Baptist Church, the Howe First Baptist Church and was the founder and minister of the Heavener Northside Baptist Church. He was known as the Oklahoma Cherokee Evangelist.

Survivors include his wife Joan; two daughters, Angelique Friedl of Heavener and Rebecca Copeland of Tulsa; two sons, Durwood Hendricks of Broken Arrow and John Hendricks of Poteau; two sisters, Nancy Roberts of Stillwater and Florence Downs of San Diego, Calif.; one brother, Nathaniel Hendricks of Phoenix, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at noon Tuesday, July 22 at Loving Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Loving Cemetery under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
