John R. Dugan, 80, of Spiro, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at Fort Smith, Ark. He was born Dec. 17,1922 at Louisville, Miss. He was a retired furniture factory worker and was a member of the Mt. Triumph Baptist Church of Fort Coffee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Georgia (Avery Dugan; three brothers; two sisters; one son; and one granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife Emil Dugan of the home; five children, Kay and husband the Rev. D. Clayton of Fort Coffee, Arenna McCurtain, Robert Dugan and wife Leslie, all of Fort Coffee, Marie Richardson of Van Buren, Ark. and Lonnie Banks of Minnesota; a special nephew, who he loved as a son, Sgt. Major (Ret.) Marvail Lewis of Fort Coffee; three sisters, Beatrice and Geneva, both of Fort Coffee and Mary Lee Bledsoe of Kansas City, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28 at Mt. Triumph Baptist Church of Fort Coffee with Pastor Jeffrey Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Coffee Cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Steele, Rodney Clayton, Johnnie Smith, Adrian Clayton, Verdie Triplett and Omeyell Steele.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Dugan, Leonard Dugan, Marvail Lewis, Tony Campbell, Lonnie Eubanks, Gary Lewis, Joe Wilkins and John Campbell.

Flower bearers will be Lena Devrow, Whitney Johnson, Carrie Tidwell, Belinda Scott, Awondrail Steele, Monique Wilkins, Nina Campbell, Sheryl Smith, Lachand Ruff and Sandra Kay Grant.
