Latimer County historical & Genealogical Location

The Latimer County Historical & Genealogical Society is located in the Latimer County Library Building. The Construction of this new building was begun in 1993, by the Latimer County Foundation for the Future, Inc., and the building was dedicated on September 22, 1995. Kensel and Dortha Lee Tucker donated the land for the specific purpose of building a Public Library to include a room for the Society and the Wilburton Alumni.

Artifacts of the 1880 to 1930 era can be seen at the Miners Museum.

Latimer County was created at statehood in 1907 from parts of Gaines, Sugarloaf, Wade, and San Bois Counties, Indian Territory, Choctaw Nation. The County was named for J.S. Latimer, the Representative to the Constitutional Congress from this area. The Latimer County Historical & Genealogical Society is committed to preservations of the History of Latimer County. The meeting time is 2:00 pm on the third Sunday of each month. Dues for membership in the "Society" are $10.00/person and $15.00/family. Research fees are $10.00 per hour..
