The couple was wed in Topeka, Kansas, on the bride's 21st birthday, Jun 22, 1889.

George and Sarah were both from Nashville, Tennessee. He was born in May 1861, and she on June 22, 1868.

A few months after the Douglasses were married, they arrived in Oklahoma Territory and settled on land in Lacey Township that was homesteaded by Sarah's stepfather, Andrew McClelland. Also in the group of settlers was Sarah's maternal great grandmother, Marie Pillow, Sarah's grandparents - Josiah and Evaline Estes (surname sometimes spelled Estus), and Sarah's mother, Lovie Estes-Saxton-McClelland.

George and Sarah Douglass had four daughters and two sons: Lovie Cora Evangeline (1890-1972), Harry Edward (1892-1969), Iola Mae (1894-1951), Emma Geneva (1896-1942), Myrtle Othella (1897-1968), and George Dewey Melvin (1898-1978).

Sarah's grandparents (Marie Pillow and the Esteses) were buried on the McClelland farm after their demise. However, Sarah and her mother (Lovie McClelland (1849-1921) are interred in Morrison Cemetery at Lacey. Sarah passed away at age 31 on November 18, 1899, and her husband five years later on Sep 1, 1904. Their children were raised by Lovie and Andrew McClelland in the Lacey community.
