100 years ago

A street lamp placed at the bottom of the opera house steps would be a decided improvement and perhaps save the city a law suit. A gentleman hurrying to the opera house on Monday evening received a severe fall, spraining his wrist and otherwise bruising himself.

Judge MacGee's court is making money for the county. On the first of this month he turned $175 into the county treasury on account of excess of fees. He has turned in about $500 on the same account during the last year.

The right of way for the extension of the Rock Island Railway to Guthrie has been practically secured. The line has been definitely established, and the work of construction will be commenced at once, probably not later than next week.

Kingfisher is entitled to 27 delegates to the Free Homes convention, to be held at El Reno tomorrow. The county should be fully represented.

Wright and Lewis of Madill have established a motor passenger service from Kingfisher to Watonga and one from Kingfisher to Guthrie. Connections will be made here so that through service can be secured between Watonga and Guthrie. Close connections can be made at Guthrie with the interurban to Oklahoma City.

John Bucker and Miss Francis Hawkins of El Reno were married by Judge Hopkins last Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. A.A. Fleming's residence on North First Street caught fire Tuesday night about 8:45 and the house and all contents were a complete loss.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Meacham are here from Arkansas, visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. Meacham.

J. Collins & Co., have purchased what is known as the old Free Press building, corner of Miles and Main, from J.V. Admire. The building will be occupied by the Collins Abstract Co.

Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Wrobbel, Martha and Charles, were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Frederick and children.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bernhardt visited Saturday with Mrs. Bernhardt's mother, Mrs. Louise Heinrich of Okeene.

Mrs. Joe Willms, August and Marcia Dean and Mrs. Bill Willms spent last Monday with Mrs. T.C. Biehler and Alta.

Recent resignation of Ray G. Burns as superintendent of Kingfisher schools was accepted Monday night by the school board. Henry Avery has been named to the post, and will assume his duties July 1. Burns will enter the insurance business.

Mrs. Clyde Bollenbach is a patient in St. Anthony's Hospital at Oklahoma City. She underwent a major operation Tuesday morning. Mrs. Bollenbach is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Mitchell of south of Kingfisher.

Two graduates of Kingfisher High School who are playing football at Central State University at Edmond have made a grade average of 3.0 at the university and were named on the school's Broncho Honor Roll. They are Ernest Hellwege and Gerald McMullin, who were among 25 named on the roll.

Ray Lee Wall, former Kingfisher resident, was sworn in last week as District Judge for Logan and Payne counties.

Ann Benson, a curriculum specialist for the State Department of Vocational and Technical Education, has been hired as executive director of an eight-state organization which will develop uniform vocational curriculum.

Donnie Corbin has been elected business manager of FarmHouse Social Fraternity at Oklahoma State University.
