A Sapulpa man died instantly when his car crossed the center line and slammed into an oncoming pickup on SH 66 Sunday, according to police.

The accident report indicated Gary Phillip Taylor Jr., 22, 707 E. Thompson, was driving southbound on SH 66 north of 78th Street at 6:37 pm

According to the driver of the pickup, William Harold Bewley, 30, Collinsville, as well as other witnesses, Taylor's vehicle crossed the center turning lane and struck Bewley's pickup, the report states.

The speedometer in Taylor's car was stopped at 67 mph after the crash. He was "killed on impact," the report reads.

Taylor "had the odor of alcoholic beverage about his person (and) a cold opened can" of beer was found in the floorboard on the driver's side of the vehicle, according to the report.

Taylor's body was transported by Creek County Ambulance to Bartlett Memorial Medical Center, where blood samples were drawn to determine his blood-alcohol content.

Bewley and the four passengers in his vehicle were not injured. All but one were wearing seatbelts.

The pickup was pulling a horse trailer. Bewley said his family was on the way home from Creek County Raceway after being rained out.
