Rev. Ruth Gertude Smith, 79, Mounds died Saturday.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 pm Tuesday in the First Assembly of God Church in Mounds with Dr. Ron Smith, Rev. Kenneth Creason and Tallis Nelson officiating.

Interment is to follow in Duck Creek Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Smith was born Dec 17, 1913 in Grayson County, TX. Smith was married to Rev. Troy Wayne Smith on Dec 24, 1930 in Twin Hills, OK. She was a licensed beautician, seamstress during wartime making army uniforms and a piano and voice instructor.

She was an ordained minister for the Oklahoma District Council of Assemblies of God and evangelized and pastored in numerous small communities throughout Oklahoma and Tennessee. She came to Mounds in 1950 with her husband and built the First Assembly of God Church. She pastored there until retiring in 1983. She also worked in Indian missions in western Oklahoma, Wyoming, New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona. As a member of the Dahlia Garden Club in Mounds, she achieved statewide recognition for floral design and creativity. She appeared on television, at state fairs and garden centers with demonstrations of her unique creations.

Smith is survived by husband Troy of the home, daughters Donna Smoot of Sapulpa and Lota Mae James of Cushing, sons Dr. Ron Smith of Paris, IL and David Smith of Tahlequah, brothers Coy Allen of Sapulpa and Wayne Allen of Nederland, TX, sister Rev. Reba Mae Roberts of Humboldt, TN, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
