MANNFORD - John Edward Ross, of Mannford, died Monday at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa.

Services are pending with Smith Funeral Home.

MANNFORD - John Edward Ross, 70, of Mannford, died Monday at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa.

Services are scheduled for 2 pm Thursday at Smith Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Ben Husted officiating.

A military graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Mannford.

Casketbearers will be Bart Davis, Truman Dunn, James Fields, Mike Porter, Quenton Speegle and Jimmy Wheeler. Phillip Horacek will serve as honorary bearer.

He was born Sep 1, 1920, in Bixby, and lived in Tulsa from 1948 to September 1966.

Mr. Ross was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and a World War II veteran who served in Panama, the Omaha Beach D-Day landing and in the ensuing campaign for the liberation of Europe.

He served as a eight inch howitzer gunner in the 45th Division, 158th Field Artillery Battalion and later was attached to the British Second Army and American XIII Corps.

A 1947 plumbing graduate of the Kansas City National Trade School, he had been a journeyumen member of Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local 205, of Tulsa, since April 1952.

He married Norma Ridley Ross Oct 27, 1964, in Hot Springs, Ark.

Mr. Ross was a member of the local Byrom-Loveall American Legion Post, of the Mannford Methodist Church and a charter board member of the Keystone Crossroads Historical Society.

He was a Pawnee County reserve deputy for four years and was an avid fisherman and gardener.

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Henry Ross, in 1978.

Survivors include wife, Norma; sisters Francis Dunahay of Claremore and Ima Jean Beck of Siloam Springs, Ark.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; and Phillip Horacek, who was raised by Mr. Ross and his wife.

In lieu of other remembrances, the family suggests donations to the Keystone Crossroads Historical Society in Mannford.

Funeral services for John E. Ross were held today at Smith Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Ben Hustad officiating.

Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery, Mannford, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Casketbearers were Bart Davis, Truman Dunn, James Fields, Mike Porter, Quenton Speegle and Jimmy Wheeler. Honorary bearer was Phillip Horacek.
