SGT. RUSSELL J. LACOCK

Sgt. Russell J. Lacock, gunner, and six other members of a bomber crew were killed in England, March 2, 1944, as they began a mission over enemy territory.

A member of the United States Army since September, 1940, he had completed schools in chemical warfare, aerial photography and gunnery.

For his acts of bravery and courage in activities overseas since January, Sergeant Lacock was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and a Citation of Honor from President Roosevelt.

He was a popular member of the Sapulpa high school with the class of 1935. He later attended the Sapulpa junior college.

He was employed at the Pay-Less Drug at the time of his enlistment.

Memorial services for Sergeant Lacock were held March 20 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church here which held his membership. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
