At about 3:35 p.m. Monday, Sapulpan Shirley Jarnagin, 53, died in Illinois following a head-on collision with a loaded school bus.

The accident, which happened in Effingham, Ill., was caused when Jarnagin crossed the centerline and collided with the school bus that was carrying 50 grade and high school students, officials said.

The students were on their way home from school.

Four students, which were from the Dieterich Community School, were treated and released at the Effingham's St. Anthony Hospital.

Jarnagin was pronounced dead at the scene by the Effingham County coroner.

An investigation by the Illinois State Police is continuing into the cause of the accident. Weather was not reported as a contributing factor.

The accident happened on 1-70.

Shirley Ann Jarnagin, 53, of Sapulpa, died Monday in St. Francis Township, Ill.

Services are to be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dan Caldwell officiating.

Burial is to follow in the Green Hills Memorial Gardens under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Jarnagin was born May 29, 1940 in West Virginia. She was a homemaker and a member of the Westside Baptist church and was a Sapulpa resident since 1972.

She is survived by husband Melvin of the home; parents Early and Betty Haught of Center Point, Texas; son Sam Phillips of Prattville; daughter Sandy Hall of Sapulpa; stepdaughters Mevelyne Whinery of Calif. and nine grandchildren. The Casket will not be opened at any time.

Funeral services for Shirley Jarnagin were to be held at 2 p.m. today in the Smith Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dan Caldwell officiating.

Burial was to follow in the Green Hills Memorial Gardens under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Serving as casketbearers were Tim Harper, Gilbert Ortiz, Randy Reynolds, Mark Filmore, John Moore and Bruce Wilkinson.

Jarnagin died Monday in Illinois. Jarnagin's sister Susan Knight of Newcastle was previously not listed as a survivor.
