DEATH CLAIMS JOHN J. DAVIS, LAWYER HERE

GRADUAL ILLNESS IS FATAL, TO PROMINENT LAWYER AT HOME LAST NIGHT

John J. Davis, prominent Sapulpa attorney, died at his home at 424 South Oak Street shortly before 9 o’clock last night.

Davis had been in falling health for the past several years. He is survived by his widow and one adopted son, Pat Stinson. Other survivors include three sisters Mrs. F. A. Frazier and Mrs. R. M. Foster of Sturgis, Miss., and Mrs. J. M. Barrett of Okemah; one brother, Dr. W. B. Davis of Stroud and a nephew in Sapulpa Milford Davis.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at the First Presbyterian church at 2 o'clock with Rev. Chas. D. Todd officiating. Lewis and Landrith undertakers are in charge of arrangements.

Davis’ body will lie in state at the family residence from 10 o’clock tomorrow morning until 1 in the afternoon. Friends may visit the bier of the deceased during these hours. The casket will remain unopened at the church.

Davis who was 58 years old was born in Sturgis, Miss. He came to Lincoln county, Oklahoma shortly after he graduated from the Mississippi A. and M. college in 1901. Active and popular as a young lawyer he was elected Lincoln county attorney in 1904.

In 1918 Davis came to Sapulpa where he has resided since. He as been an active member of the Creek county bar association, and an active elder in the Presbyterian church. Davis was a member of the Knights Templars, a member of the Consistory and has been active in the Masonic lodge.

Davis will be buried in the South Heights Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will include Earl Wooldridge, S. W. Moore, F. M. Horn, J. Vere Frazier, W. C. Hodges, Don McMasters. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Session of the Presbyterian church. A guard of honor of the Knights Templars will also serve.
