MOUNDS — Sedric Devoe Cowell, 71, Mounds, died Monday following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 pm Thursday at the Mounds Christian Church with the Revs. Ed Yarger and L. O. McNabb officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mounds Cemetery under the direction of Leonard Funeral Home, Bixby.

Mr. Cowell was born Nov. 1, 1919, at Coal Hill, Ark., and lived in the Mounds area since 1928. He served as Postmaster for 30 years and was a member of the Mounds Christian Church.

He served as a B-17 tailgunner with the 381st bomb group, 8th U.S. Army Air Force in World War II.

Survivors include wife Ellen Marie; daughters Elaine Marie Christian of Overland Park, Kan., Carolyn Kay Roberts of Okay, Betty Jo Scott of Mounds; brother Leon Cowell of Bixby; sister Weda Harwell of Tulsa; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
