KELLYVILLE – Residents here again today are mourning a loss, this time of a dear grandmother.

“Grandma” Ellen Cooper died this morning at a local hospital. She would have 113 years old Oct. 19.

“She was the matriarch of Kellyville,” said Dr. Dwight Davidson, Kellyville superintendent. “Everyone was either related to her or claimed to be.

“She could recall coming to Oklahoma in a covered wagon. She’s just been here forever.”

“There’s hardly anybody you talk in town who didn’t know her,” said Kellyville town clerk Anita Richardson.

Former Kellyville Mayor Dixon Cartwright said he’d known Grandma Cooper for more than 40 years.

“She seems to have always been in pretty good health,” he said.

“We’ve seen her walking around in the yard after she was 100.”

Grandma Cooper was a member of the Baptist Church and a long-time subscriber to the Herald.

Funeral services are pending at Owen Funeral Home in Sapulpa.
