Childress Funeral Rites Held Today

Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah A. Childress, pioneer Sapulpan, who died night before last, were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the First Baptist Church with the pastor, Rev. P. J. Conkwright in charge of the services. Burial under the direction of Lewis and Landrith was in the Sapulpa Cemetery beside her husband, the late M. A. Childress.

Pallbearers were Frank Green, Roy Wildman, W. B. Mathis, T. A. Gresham, H. L. Snider and Clarence Dietz.

Mrs. Childress came to Creek County in 1901 from Missouri. She had held membership in the First Baptist Church here also as long as anyone in the church. Her husband was one of the early day deacons and they labored together through those trying times for a more religious community. The husband was elected county commissioner from this district at the first election after statehood. He died in 1914.

Mrs. Childress is survived by two children, Lester Childress of Sapulpa and Mrs. Joe Casey of Stillwater. She is also survived by two brothers and one sister, all of whom live in other states.
