DONALD CARTER

BRISTOW — Services were today for Donald Lee Carter, 56, of Bristow, at the Bristow VFW Hall with Chaplain Robert Lyons, Sr., officiating.

Mr. Carter died Saturday in Boston, Mass.

Burial was at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of Schumacher Funeral Home of Bristow.

He was born April 11, 1934, in Bristow. He was a retired postal worker and member of the Holiness religion.

He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean conflict and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant E-6. He was a member of the Active U.S. Army Reserves. He also served in the Army National Guard of Oklahoma from Sept. 1960 to April 1989. During that time he was awarded a number of medals and service awards.

Mr. Carter was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the VFW, DAV, Past Commander Club, National Home/Veterans of Foreign Wars, Enlisted National Guard Association and the National Association of Letter Carriers Local #1358.

He married Deloris Anderson on March 13, 1955.

Survivors include wife Deloris; mother Mildred Cearley of Bristow; sons don Carter, Jr. of Sapulpa and Larry Carter of Tulsa; daughters Anita Gonzalez of Dela Calle, Mexico and Linda Drye of Bristow; brothers Gerald Carter of Sapulpa and Charlie Carter of Yale; sister Nadine Ingram of Depew; and nine grandchildren.
