Merton A. Bennett, Sapulpa, surviving husband of Maggie M. Bennett, died in an automobile accident Sunday, June 14, 1987.

Benny or (Muley), worked on a Frisco railroad for thirty-three years, retiring to care for his beloved wife. Bennett was born at Bennett Dairy, South of Sapulpa, Jan 15, 1915, son of Orville Ross and Ida Horn Bennett.

After their marriage in 1934, Merton and Maggie worked on the Bennett Dairy, and later operated a dairy creamery and service station in the 900 block of So. Main Street. The service station was located in an old Interurban Streetcar, which had run between Tulsa and Sapulpa.

In addition to his five children, O. J. and Richard Bennett, Shirley and Richard Brooks and Sass, the Wonder Dog, Rebecca Brooks and Scott Bennett are grandchildren. His sister, Marie Payne lives in Wichita, and his brother Don, in Tulsa. He was preceded in death by another brother O. R.

Grave side services will be held later in the week at South Bethel Cemetery in Braggs, Okla., under the direction Owen Funeral Home.

Mr. Bennett was a former employee of the Frisco Railroad and was a member of the South Heights Baptist Church, and Sapulpa Historical Society, Sapulpa Pet Aid and the B.L.E.

A Sapulpa man died Sunday morning, after his 1964 Ford Van contracted a tree near the intersection of Davis and Park.

Merton A. Bennett, 72, 1416 S. Park was pinned behind the steering wheel of the vehicle for several minutes and was rescued by Sapulpa firefighters. According to Ron Sole of the Sapulpa Police Department.

Sole said it is possible Bennett suffered from a heart attack, causing him to veer off the road and hit the tree.

Services for Bennett are scheduled for 10 am Tuesday at South Heights Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jonas Partridge officiating.

The family requests that remembrances be in gifts to the Sapulpa Pet Aid Society, 20 N. Water.

A Memorial Service will be held at South Heights Baptist Church, 23 E. Wells, at 10 am on Tuesday.

Bennett was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, Sapulpa Pet Aid, and Life Member, Sapulpa Historical Society.
