Daniel William Beckner, 86, a longtime Tulsa geologist, died Saturday, May 26, 2001.

In 1937, he went to work for the Carter Oil Co., the wholly-owned domestic oil and gas producing subsidiary of the Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey that is now Exxon. For 17 years, he worked his way from field geologist to executive staff geologist.

In 1953, he resigned from the Carter Oil Co. to take the position of exploration and production manager for the newly formed Olin Oil and Gas Corp., and for the next 10 years, he worked to build its oil and gas production.

In 1965, the Olin Oil and Gas Corp. was sold to the Standard Oil Co., who merged the company with the Carter Oil Co.

After a few months in helping the companies in their consolidation, Mr. Beckner again resigned from Carter to become a general partner in several limited partnerships, including Nilo (Olin spelled backwards) Oil Co., the LaSalle Oil Co. and the Mason Oil Co.

In 1971, he bought the limited partners' interests and became an independent oil and gas producer. In 1988, he sold his oil and gas production and retired at the age of 74 years.

He was a long-time member of the Tulsa Geological Society and an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Sapulpa.

He is survived by two loving daughters, Judy Duck of Dallas and Susanne Nista of New Kinsington, Pa.; and a loving neighbor, companion and care-giver, Mackie Hunter.

Services will be held at 10 am Friday, June 1, 2001, at the First Presbyterian Church of Sapulpa.
