Dave Baker, 97, died Wednesday, July 12, 1995 in Bristow.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hutchins-Maples Funeral Homes Chapel with the Rev. Gene Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Welty Cemetery, directed by Hutchins-Maples Funeral Home.

He was born May 15, 1898 in Hulbert, Indian Territory, to Tom and Elizabeth Parnell Baker.

He married Arkie Mae Smith on Aug. 7, 1917 in Welty.

He attended the Freewill Baptist Church in Bristow. He lived in Bristow for 33 years. He moved from Welty to Slick in 1936 and lived there until he moved to Bristow. He retired as a farmer in 1961. He had worked for the WPA.

Survivors include four sons, Arthur Lee Baker, Norwich, KS, Lawrence Edgar Baker, Newark, CA, Warren Baker, Del City, and C. O. Baker, Wichita, KS; three daughters, Pauline Gibbs and Norma Jean Unstead, both of Bristow, and Geraldine Laven, Desert Hot Springs, CA; a sister, Lois Smith, Oklahoma City; 19 grandchildren, plus great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife on May 3, 1986; five brothers and five sisters.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Larry Baker, Steve Baker, Don Umstead, Ronnie Baker, Johnnie Baker, Phillip Gibbs, Lonnie Baker, and Leonard Gibbs.
