JETT OWEN ATTACKED BY ROBBERS

Jett F. Owen of Sapulpa, Okla., formerly of this place, and a brother of Willard Owen, was attacked by two robbers near Depew, Okla., one day last week, beaten unconscious and left for dead by them after they had taken his car. He was struck over the head nine times, and over twenty stitches were required to close the wounds made.

Mr. Owen, his many Higbee friends will be glad to learn, while beaten within an inch of his life, was not injured to such an extent that his recovery will not be complete. The robbers, who attempted to kill him because they wanted his car, were not hung, we are sorry to say, but drew twenty years each in prison. The following is taken from a Sapulpa paper:

"Speedy justice has been meted out to Robert and Chester Brown, the two men who attacked Jett F. Owen of this city last week, beat him insensible and fled in his car. "The two men were brought here under careful secrecy from near Shawnee, where they were arrested following the robbery, and after being held in the county jail a few hours were taken before Judge J. Harvey Smith in superior court.

"Both men pleaded guilty to a charge of con-joint robbery and were immediately sentenced to serve twenty years in the state penitentiary at McAlester. They were taken to the penitentiary that night, shortly after receiving sentence. County Attorney Tom Wallace declares it to be a record for speedy conviction in the county. The prompt action was hurried by advice to the sheriff that mob action was threatening in Depew, where Owen was well known and near where the robbers beat him."
