January 2, 1942

FINE
Orange high school students and faculty were saddened to learn of the death of Calvin FINE, sophomore student, and well-liked member of the student body, who was killed in an automobile accident on the south Glassell street bridge Monday evening. School flags were at half-mast for a student who was conscientious and friendly to everyone who knew him.
Born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, 17 years ago, Calvin came to Orange six years ago with his mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Ray NIEMEYER, Young FINE was a grandson of T.W. FULSOM, a former Westville citizen, who sent us this clipping. Our sympathy is extended to the breaved family.

January 9, 1942

DEERING
Barton D. DEERING, 20 years old, high school band director of Booneville, Ark., was killed last Tuesday morning when the car driven by him crashed into a parked machine. He died immediately following the crash. DEERING attended Louisiana Tech, Ruston, La., was a member of the Methodist church and a member of the Arkansas Education Association.  The body was returned to Booneville for funeral service. Burial was at Summers, Ark.
Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.A. DEERING, Booneville; a sister, Mrs. Tom ALLISON, Hobbs, N.M.; two brothers, Paul E. DEERING, Houston, Texas, and Billy DEERING of the home; and his grandmother, Mrs. Loretta FLYNT, Booneville.

SMITH
Mack Lawrence SMITH, 25, who was aboard the U.S.S. Arizona battleship sunk at Pearl Harbor, is missing and presumably was killed, according to a telegram received at Stilwell by his father, James SMITH. He joined the Navy in 1940 and was last seen by his parents on Thanksgiving, 1940, when he was home for a visit.

SMYTHE
Mrs. Anola SMYTHE, a former resident of Westville, died in a Berkley, Calif., hospital Monday, December 29, as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident on December 21. Mrs. SMYTHE was born at Robinson, Ark., in June, 1865.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. E.R. LONG, Siloam Springs, Ark., Mrs. Bert LEWIS, Berkley, Mrs. Bobbie SPINKS, Berkley, and Mrs. H.B. SMITH, Westwood, Calif.; a son, Freddie SMYTHE, San Bernardo, Calif; her step-mother, Mrs. S.S. SHEFFIELD, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday and burial was at Norwood Prairie.

KERNS
Sam KERNS, age 69, of Cedartown, Georgia, died very suddenly with a heart attack on January 2. Funeral services and burial was made at Cedartown, with the Masonic lodge taking part in the services. He has a number of friends here, having lived in Tahlequah several years ago.
He is survived by his widow; one daughter, three sons, one sister and two brothers, Jim KERNS of Watts and W.L. KERNS of Westville.

BARNES
Our city mourns the passing of a pioneer in the death of Mrs. Nola BARNES, who died in a Prairie Grove hospital Monday morning after a short illness.
Mrs. BARNES, age 64, has been a resident of Westville for a number of years, a member of one of our most respected families and beloved by everyone who knew her.
Funeral services were held at the Roberts Funeral Chapel Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. J.C. MORRIS, pastor of the local Methodist church, of which Mrs. BARNES was an active member for over thirty years, officiating, assisted by Rev. E.H. WININGER, retired Methodist pastor. Burial was made in the Baptist Mission cemetery beside her husband, Dr. Cal BARNES, who preceeded her in death in 1915.
The following children survive: Mrs. Vinnie MIDDLETON, Pasadena, Calif.; Mrs. Marie TIERNEY, Pittsburg, Kansas, and Floyd BARNES, Westville. Four sisters and two brothers also survive, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Card of Thanks - We wish to express our appreciation to our many friends for their kind thoughtfulness during the illness of our dear mother. The sympathy of our friends was a great comfort in our time of sorrow.

BARNES
Our city mourns the passing of a pioneer in the death of Mrs. Nola BARNES, who died in a Prairie Grove hospital Monday morning after a short illness.
Mrs. BARNES, age 64, has been a resident of Westville for a number of years, a member of one of our most respected families and beloved by everyone who knew her.
Funeral services were held at the Roberts Funeral Chapel Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. J.C. MORRIS, pastor of the local Methodist church, of which Mrs. BARNES was an active member for over thirty years, officiating, assisted by Rev. E.H. WININGER, retired Methodist pastor.
Burial was made in the Baptist Mission Cemetery beside her husband, Dr. Cal BARNES, who preceded her in death in 1915.
The following children survive: Mrs. Vinnie MIDDLETON, Pasadena, Calif.; Mrs. Marie TIERNEY, Pittsburg, Kansas, and Floyd BARNES, Westville. Four sisters and two brothers also survive, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

FREEMAN
Our city was made sad Wednesday in the death of T.F. FREEMAN, pioneer Westville merchant. Mr. FREEMAN had been poorly for some months, having recently sold his farm southwest of town and moved into our city on account of ill health.
Born September 15, 1869 in Georgia, he moved with his parents in childhood to Arkansas, moving to Westville 21 years ago, most of this time being spent in the mercantile business. Mr. married Lizzie Dee MCCARTY, January 1, 1892. To this union seven children were born.
Surviving are his widow and six children.
Funeral services will be held at Roberts Funeral Chapel Friday at 1:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. Robert BURNS, with burial at Dutch Mills under the direction of the Masonic Lodge.

January 30, 1942

MURRIN
Joseph MURRIN, 74 year old bachelor, died at his home in the Union Hill community Monday morning from a paralytic stroke suffered a few days previous. Funeral and burial was near Summers Tuesday afternoon.

MCGUIRE
Word was received here by relatives of the death of Willet MCGUIRE, a former owner and operator of a drug store in this city some 25 years ago.
Mr. MCGUIRE died at his home in Fresno, Calif., January 21, of cerebral hemorrhage. He has been retired from business the past 10 years.
He has a brother, Clyde MCGUIRE, and a nephew, Joe ANDREU, both of Westville, also two other nephews, Dr. A.G. GIBSON and Dr. MEDERRIS, both of Tahleuqah.

FREEMAN

ALLISON
Fred ALLISON, Misses Lou and Myrtle ALLISON were in Fayetteville Sunday to attend the funeral of their aunt, Mrs. Martha C. ALLISON, age 71 years, who died last Thursday at her home near Fayetteville. Burial was made in Mt. Olive Cemetery.

REEVES
Mrs. Beulah REEVES, age 52, wife of W.T. REEVES, west of town, died Sunday as a result of a paralytic stroke suffered Saturday afternoon. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the local Pentecostal Holiness church, conducted by Rev. Jimmie LANGLEY, under the direction of the Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs. Burial was made in the city cemetery northwest of town.
She is survived by her husband and seven children, as follows: Mary FOX, Shamrock, Okla.; Lee REEVES, Harold REEVES and Pearl HOWELL, all of Centralia, Illinois; Verna TEDDER, Kilgore, Texas; Paris REEVES, Fairfax, Okla., and Violet REEVES of Westville.
The family moved to this community from Drumright, Okla. about four years ago.

February 6, 1942

SIXKILLER
Joe SIXKILLER, 34 years old, of Watts, son of the late Henry SIXKILLER, former Adair County treasurer, died at a Talihina hospital Monday morning following a lingering illness.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at Watts Baptist church by Rev. T. DeWitt SANKEY, Westville Baptist pastor. Burial was made in the Sixkiller Cemetery.
SIXKILLER is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Watts; two brothers, Mitchell of Watts and Hiram of Stillwater.

ALBERTY
Banks ALBERTY, age 84, died in Claremore Friday, January 30. Mr. ALBERTY was well known here, having lived in Westville until a short time ago. Burial was in Park Hill Cemetery, Sunday, February 1, under direction of Roberts Funeral Home.

BOWLES
J.E. BOWLES, four day old son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam BOWLES of Baron, south of town, died Saturday night at the home. Burial was at Baron Sunday. The infant weighed 3 1/2 pounds at birth. The parents have the sympathy of their many friends in their great loss.

CALDWELL
Word has been received here on the death of H.J. CALDWELL of Stillwater, Okla. Professor CALDWELL taught school in Westville several years ago, going from here to Stillwater where he has been a professor of History at Oklahoma A. and M. College since 1912.

REEVES

AQUADRO
Mrs. Lige SMITH of north of town was called to Memphis last week to the bedside of her mother, Mrs. James AQUADRO, 85, who died Sunday afternoon as a result of a paralytic stroke suffered on Wednesday.
Funeral and burial was in Memphis Monday afternoon. Surviving her are three daughters, 24 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.

BIGBY
Charles T. BIGBY, age 66, tie buyer at Stilwell for the past quarter of a century, died very suddenly at his tie yard Wednesday afternoon of a heart ailment.
The funeral, under the direction of the Roberts Funeral Home of Stilwell, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Oak Grove school near Stilwell.
Mr. BIGBY is survived by his wife; three sons, Charlie BIGBY of Fairland, Okla., Gus and Clint BIGBY, both of Stilwell, and one daughter, Mrs. Bud PETTY of Stilwell. Miss Kate BIGBY, manager of the local telephone exchange, is a sister of the deceased.

TURN
William TURN, age 64, well known pioneer Cherokee citizen, died early last Friday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clarence FLEIG, three miles west of town, after a short illness, however, he had been in failing health for sometime.
The funeral, under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home, was held Saturday at Green church, conducted by Rev. SHORTRIDGE of Baron, assisted by Rev. Oscar PADGETT.
Survivors include one daughter, one son, one step-son, two grandchildren, other relatives and many friends who mourn his passing.

FOREMAN
Martin FOREMAN, age 51, of Watts, died in the Veterans Hospital in Muskogee Wednesday morning after a long illness.
Mr. FOREMAN was a World War veteran and had been in poor health for a number of years.
Funeral services were conducted in Watts Thursday afternoon, and burial in the Watts cemetery.
Survivors include the widow, Elsie; two sons, J.D. of Oklahoma City and Cordell of Westville; three brothers, all of this city, and 2 sisters, both of Watts.

February 20, 1942

TURN

WEST
Mrs. Amanda R.E. WEST, age 81 years, widow of the late Noah A. WEST, who passed away March 19, 1942, died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Fannie CARTE, here in Westville, Friday evening, January 15, after a long illness.
Funeral sercices were conducted from the Roberts Funeral Chapel Sunday by Rev. J.C. MORRIS, assisted by Rev. J.B. LATTA of Morrow, Ark.
She is survived by seven daughters: Mrs. Minnie REEVES, Sallisaw; Mrs. Cora BRIGGS, Sunset, Texas; Mrs. Edith TAPP, Lincoln, Ark.; Mrs. Fannie CARTE, Westville; Mrs. Eva ANDERSON, Stanwood, Wash.; Mrs. Nora PITTS, Cane Hill, Ark., and Mrs. Lucy WILHITE, Morrow, Ark.; one sister, three brothers, and a number of grandchildren.
Burial was made in the Ganderville cemetery near Summers.

March 6, 1942

WOODRUFF
Judge W.A. WOODRUFF, 60 years old, died at his home in Stilwell Sunday, morning after several months' illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the First Baptist church in Stilwell by the Rev. Joe R. BAKER, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Roberts Funeral Home. Judge WOODRUFF was the third county attorney for Adair County and served four years as district judge.
He is survived by his widow, one son, Captain Preston WOODRUFF of Fort Sill; one daughter, Elizabeth WOODRUFF of Tulsa; and one grandson.

SIMMONS
Britt SIMMONS, age 72, life-long resident, died Wednesday afternoon at his home at the northwest edge of town after a few days' illness. Mr. SIMMONS suffered a light stroke some two or three years ago, another stroke Saturday and one Tuesday night which proved fatal.
He is survived by the widow, five daughters, one brother, one sister, many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Roberts Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. MASTERS and Rev. WORLEY. Burial will be in Westville City Cemetery.

March 13, 1942

MCKINSEY
Mrs. Jabe MCKINSEY, the former Miss Earl CATES, formerly of Addielee, died at her home at Kelleyville, Okla., Thursday, March 5, after a long illness.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Green church, conducted by Rev. Ray BRIDGEMAN, and burial was made in the Green Cemetery, with the Roberts Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. MCKINSEY, age 28 years, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.P. CATES, was born and reared in the Addielee community where she lived until about a year ago. Besides the parents, she is survived by her husband and two sisters.

JONES
William E. JONES, age 62, died of a heart ailment at his home in Watts Saturday morning. He had lived in Watts for 35 years. He is survived by his wife, five sons, three of whom are with the U.S. Navy, two daughters, two brothers and one sister.

March 20, 1942

PHILLIPS
Mrs. Sarah Belle PHILLIPS, age 75, mother of Mrs. T.F. REINOLD of this city, died at her home six miles southeast of Prairie Grove last Thursday morning, March 12, after a long illness. The funeral was conducted by Rev. MOBLEY, Friday afternoon at Moffit, under the direction of the Moore Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
Survivors include her husband, J.R. PHILLIPS, and seven children.
[Local News] Miss Marie REINOLD, who is working in Tulsa, was called home the latter part of last week to attend the funeral of her grandmother, Mrs. J.R. PHILLIPS, of Prairie Grove.

BOWLES
George BOWLES, an old resident of Baron, passed away Monday night. His funeral was preached in the Baron church Wednesday by Rev. Oscar MOORE of Westville, assisted by Eddie HOWARD and Rev. SHORTRIDGE of Baron.

March 27, 1942

WEST
Funeral services for Noah WEST, 78 years old, who died in a Vinita hospital, was held Sunday afternoon at the Roberts Funeral Chapel, with Jim LATTA of Morrow in charge. Burial was in a cemetery near Summers, Ark.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Amanda WEST; and seven daughters of the immediate family.

LANCE
Funeral service for Ralph LANCE a former Westville citizen, was held at the local Pentecostal church Thursday afternoon. Mr. LANCE died at his home in Tulsa after a several weeks illness,  Tuesday, March 18. Burial was made in the Baptist Mission Cemetery. He is survived by four sisters and three brothers.

NEELY
The body of a man who was found dead in the railroad yards at Watts last week has been identified as that of Lessel NEELY, son of R.L. NEELY of Siloam Springs. Mr. NEELY, about 52, evidently died of a heart attack.

HAMPTON
Mrs. O.L. HAMPTON of this city received a telegram Tuesday stating that her brother-in-law, J.P. HAMPTON, age 90, of Triplett, Mo., died suddenly Monday.

INGOLD
Rev. Oscar INGOLD, who is pastor of the Christian church in Kissimmee, Fla., spent the first of the week visiting his family here. Rev. INGOLD was enroute from St. Louis where he had been called on account of the death of his brother, Prof. Byron INGOLD

April 10, 1942

STARR
Funeral services for Sam STARR, age 84, who died at his home near Stilwell on April 1st, after a long illness, was held Saturday afternoon at the Zion church south of Stilwell, conducted by Rev. W.J. GRAY, Stilwell Methodist pastor, with burial in the New Hope Cemetery under direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
Mr. STARR is survived by his widow, three sons and nine grandchildren. A native of Texas, he had lived in Adair County for 74 years.

April 17, 1942

FOREMAN
W.J. FOREMAN of our city received a message Wednesday stating that his brother, Tom FOREMAN, age 70, of San Pedro, Calif., formerly of this city, died Tuesday night in a San Pedro hospital after a long illness. The funeral and burial will be in the California city.
Besides the brother here, the deceased is survived by one son and a daughter and other relatives.

April 24, 1942

HIX
Westville loses another of her pioneer citizens in the death of W.T. HIX, which occured at the Bushyhead Hotel Saturday, April 18, after a brief illness. A retired farmer, Mr. HIX moved with his family to Westville 21 years ago.
Funeral services were held at the Roberts Funeral Chapel Tuesday morning. Burial in the city cemetery beside his wife who preceeded him in death in 1930.
He is survived by four daughters and five sons, all but one being present. Also surviving is one brother besides a host of other relatives and friends. The following children attended the funeral of their father: Mr. and Mrs. B.A. FULLER, of Demit, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. PICKARD, New Orleans, La., Mrs. C.V. JONES and Grady HIX, Fort Worth, Texas, Doyle HIX, New Iberia, La., Herbert HIX and Randell HIX, Westwood, Calif., and Miss Pauline HIX, Dallas, Texas. Mr. Tom ANDERSON of Dallas and a brother, Joe HIX, of Chickasha, Okla., were also present.

May 1, 1942

WYSE
Henry WYSE, about 60 years old, was found dead in bed Tuesday morning at the Westside Hotel here where he made his home. He was apparently in good health Monday night, and repaired a leak in the roof before retiring.
The funeral service was conducted at the Roberts Funeral Chapel Wednesday afternoon by Rev. E.H. WININGER, burial being made in the city cemetery.
Although Mr. WYSE had lived in Westville for several years, very little was known about his relatives.

May 22, 1942

SELLERS
Word was received here Monday of the death of A.T. SELLERS of Goldthwaite, Texas, brother of Dr. R.L. SELLERS of this city. A daughter, Mrs. Scott TRONE, Mr. TRONE and Mrs. Lydia SELLERS of Maysville, Ark., left Monday for Texas to attend the funeral.

COHEA
Fay G. COHEA, age 61 of Tahlequah, formerly of Westville, died May 17 in an Oklahoma City hospital. Funeral services were held in Tahlequah Tuesday, with burial in the Westville Cemetery. Mr. COHEA was a former Westville merchant, having moved from here 22 years ago. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and one son of the immediate family. Four brothers, two sisters and one grandchild also survive.

BARNES
Mrs. Stella BARNES, of Lincoln, has been notified that her son, Toby, was killed in action May 8 at Corregidor.

May 29, 1942

SELLERS
Funeral services for Mrs. Wilhelmina PEPPER SELLERS, wife of Dr. R.L. SELLERS, wife of Dr. R.L. SELLERS, pioneer citizen and physician of Westville, who died in a hospital in Fayetteville last Friday, was conducted at the local Methodist church, of which she was a member, Saturday afternoon, with Rev. E.H. WININGER, retired Methodist minister, and Rev. J.C. MORRIS, pastor of the church, in charge. Burial was in the city cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home. Mrs. SELLERS was born at Burlington, Kansas, March 24th, 1869. She was married to Dr. SELLERS October 12th, 1889. The family moved to Westville from Robinson, Ark., in 1900.
Survivors include the husband, one daughter, Mrs. Nina JONES, two sons, Joel and Steve SELLERS, all of Westville; eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, and one sister, Mrs. W.C. SELLERS of Maysville, Ark.

WOFFARD
E. Wilson WOFFARD, age 41, of Christie, was fatally injured Monday night by a M-K-T switch engine in Muskogee. According to reports the body was found lying between the tracks, with the mangled left arm extending across the rail. He was taken to the Muskogee General Hospital but was dead upon arrival there. The body was returned to his home for burial.

June 12, 1942

LANGLEY
It is with deep regret that we learn of the death of Lester (Son) LANGLEY. Mr. and Mrs. Lock LANGLEY of Tulsa, formerly of Westville, parents of the young man, were notified Friday by the War Department, of their son's accidental death in Hawaii.
Age 22 years, Lester was born and reared here, having finished the local high with the class of '39. he joined the army some two years ago and since that time had been promoted to the rank of sergeant.
No details were learned of the tragedy other than accidental death.
Our deepest sympathy is extended to the grief-stricken family.

CRITTENDEN
Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie CRITTENDEN, wife of Mose CRITTENDEN, former sheriff of Adair county, who died in a Prairie Grove hospital June 3, was held Friday afternoon, with burial in New Hope cemetery, northwest of town, under direction of the Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.
In addition to her husband survivors include two sons, Chester and Jim CRITTENDEN of Westville and one daughter, Mrs. Becky JORDAN of Tahlequah.

June 19, 1942

DOSS
George DOSS, 72 years old, died at his home at Proctor, west of here, on June 7 after a long illness. He was born at Farmington, Ark.
Funeral services were conducted at Proctor June 7, with burial in the Proctor Cemetery, Roberts Funeral Home directing arrangements.
Survivors include three sons and three daughters.

FOREMAN
Corporal Fred W. FOREMAN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess FOREMAN of this city, arrived early Tuesday morning for a brief visit, enroute to his post at Long Beach, Calif., after returning the body of his wife to Fargo, N.D., for burial.
Mrs. FOREMAN was born December 28, 1920 at Absaraka, N.C. The former Miss Nellie Rider had lived in California the past 2 years, having married Corporal Foreman last August.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her parents and one brother, of Fargo, where she was a member of the Methodist church.

RENTFRO
Funeral services for Mrs. Sallie Lee RENTFRO was held at Wright's Chapel Tuesday afternoon, June 23, conducted by Rev. RENFROW, under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of this city.
Born at Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Mrs. RENTFRO died Monday at her home south of town at the age of 61 years.

RATLIFF
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah RATLIFF, wife of the late Willie RATLIFF, of this city, who died in a Siloam Springs hospital Wednesday, June 17, after a long illness, were held at the Roberts Funeral Chapel here Friday afternoon, with Rev. J.C. MORRIS, pastor of the local Methodist church, of which she was a member, officiating. Burial was made in the city cemetery northwest of town.
Mrs. RATLIFF was born February 25, 1875 at Hardy, Arkansas, and for the past 20 years had lived in Westville, where she operated a hat shop.
Survivors include two sons, Otis RATLIFF of Tulsa and Reagan RATLIFF of Westville; two daughters, Mrs. Pauline HENRY of Siloam Springs, and Mrs. Ola CHAMPION, Tulsa; two sisters, Mrs. Pheba PIERCE, Kansas City; Mrs. Marie BRANDON, Tulsa; one brother J.A. ROGERS, Boynton, Oklahoma, and several grandchildren.

MACKIE
John MACKIE of this city informs us of the death of his brother, George MACKIE, of Cincinnati, Ark., age 74 years, who died Saturday in a Little Rock hospital after a long illness.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Cincinnati by Rev. FINLEY, with burila in the Old union Cemetery there.
Besides the brother, survivors include one son, one daughter, and five grandchildren.

FOSTER
Our community was saddened again Tuesday in the death of another of her pioneer women in the death of Mary A. FOSTER. Mrs. FOSTER had been in failing health for several years but was able to be about until Friday of last week when she received a fall in her home.
Born near Cincinnati, Arkansas, 71 years ago, she came to Westville with her husband in the early ninteen hundreds.
Funeral services were held in the Roberts Funeral Chapel, Wednesday, July 1, conducted by Rev. E.H. WININGER, retired Methodist minister, of which church she was a member. Burial was in the City cemetery.
She is survived by three sisters and two brothers.

ALDERSON
Westville mourns the loss of one of her old-time citizens in the death of G.J. ALDERSON which occured Friday, June 19, in a Lincoln hospital, after a two weeks illness.
Mr. ALDERSON, age 63, was born in Huntsville, Arkansas, and moved with his family to Westville 25 years ago and operated a Barber Shop here to the time of his death.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. C.E. HARDY, were held at the Roberts Funeral Chapel Sunday afternoon.
He is survived by three sons and two daughters, Leslie ALDERSON, Westville, Bob ALDERSON, New York City, Otto ALDERSON, Stilwell; Miss Jaunita ALDERSON, San Francisco and Mrs. Louis BOYNE, Oklahoma City.  Also surviving are five sisters and two brothers.
Burial was in the City cemetery beside his wife who preceded him in death ten months ago.

July 10, 1942

WHEAT
Mrs. W.L. CHASE of this city informs us of the death, last Thursday morning, of her brother-in-law, D.L. WHEAT, who died suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Tulsa.
Aged 69 years, Mr. WHEAT was an employee of the city of Tulsa. The CHASE family attended the funeral, which was conducted in Tulsa Friday.

PERKINS
Mrs. Bessie PERKINS, age 56 years, died very suddenly early Thursday morning of a heart attack at the home of W.H. GULLETT, 1 1/2 miles west of town.
Mrs. PERKINS, the wife of D.M. PERKINS, had lived in this community the past eight months.
Funeral services and burial are scheduled for Sunday in Shawnee, Okla.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. D.W. COON of Lake Charles, La.; five grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers. Carl GULLETT, local deliveryman, is a nephew of the deceased.

THOMASON
Friends will be grieved to learn of the death of Miss Ruth Thomason of Cincinnati, which occured last Thursday after a long illness.
Miss THOMASON was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.H. THOMASON of Cincinnati. She is also survived by one brother, Reid THOMASON, and two sisters, Eula and Marie. Mrs. Mattie GIVINS, an aunt, is a Westville resident.

August 14, 1942

MARRS
Funeral services were held Thursday morning in Tulsa for G.C. (Gill) MARRS, age 65, who died suddenly at his home in Sand Springs, Tuesday. A former Westville citizen, Mr. MARRS left Westville some thirty years ago, and has resided near Sand Springs several years.
Surviving him are four daughters, four brothers and five sisters of the immediate family.
A second service was held here at the home of his brother, Bill MARRS, at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon.
Burial was made in the city cemetery here at Westville.

URICH
From the Boynton Index we learn of the death of our friend, George A. URICH, age 87, which occured at his home in Boynton last Monday. Mr. URICH formerly lived here, having moved with his daughter to Boynton several years ago.

BUGHER

Rites for Mrs. E.B. BUGHER, of Sallisaw were held August 14 at the Baptist church in that city. Mrs. BUGHER passed away at her home, August 12, after an illness of eight months.
Survivors include her husband, E.B. BUGHER; two sons, Robert of Tulsa and Rowland of Sallisaw; three brothers, R.H. COUCH, Tahlequah, Ralph COUCH, Blackwell, Fred COUCH, California; two sisters, Mrs. Art MCGUIRE and Mrs. Madge KEEN, Fayetteville.
Mrs. BUGHER lived in Westville a number of years ago, having taught school here in the early 1900's. She will be remembered as Miss Birdie COUCH.

TENNANT

Funeral services for Mrs. John TENNANT, who died at her home in the Summers community early Sunday morning after a long illness, were held at the Methodist church in Summers Monday afternoon.
Mrs. TENNANT, age 72, had been a lifelong resident of that community, having moved there at the age of fifteen.
She is survived by her husband, John TENNANT; two sons, Hillery GIBSON, Summers and Roy TENNANT, Tulsa; two daughters, Mrs. Harvey GIBSON, of Summers and Mrs. H.D. WITT, Vinita; several grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Septemer 11, 1942

FIELDS
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Mrs. Ruth FIELDS JONES, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank MOSS, Wednesday, September 2, after a long illness. The services, under the direction of the Roberts Funeral Home were conducted at the local Pentecostal Holiness church, with the Rev. Lonnie SMITH, Okmulgee pastor, officiating.
Mrs. JONES weas born February 18, 1872, was married to Ben JONES April 1, 1892. To this union three children were born; her husband and two children have preceded her in death.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Frank MOSS, of this city, nine grandchildren, four brothers, four sisters and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was converted some thirty years ago and was an humble Christian devoted to her children. She bore her suffering with patience, and has merited the rewards and benediction of her Lord.

RUSSELL
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. J.C. MORRIS, were held Monday afternoon at the Roberts Funeral Home for James RUSSELL, age 74, who died Sunday at his home northeast of town, after a long illness.
RUSSELL, a native of Georgia, came here with his parents at the age of two years; attended school at the old Baptist Mission, and lived all his adult life on the farm where he died.
He is survived by his wife, ten children, other relatives and a host of friends.  Nine of his children were at his bedside at the time of his death.

CHUCULATE / WILLIAMS
The mangled bodies of two boys, Leroy CHUCULATE, 15 years old, and George WILLIAMS, 18, both of Bunch, were found on the Kansas City Southern Railroad track early Sunday morning. According to County Attorney H.T. WILLIAMS, and Sheriff Mack BEAN, who investigated the deaths, the youths had apparently fallen asleep on the track after having attended a dance. Joint funeral services were held Monday morning at Bunch under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.

October 9, 1942

PILGRIM
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3:30 from the Roberts Funeral Home, conducted by Clark WILSON, for Lloyd PILGRIM age 38 years. Mr. PILGRIM died in a prairie Grove hospital Tuesday, October 6th, after a short illness.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mat PILGRIM a sister and several brothers.
Burial was made in Baptist Mission cemetery.

BURGNER
Mrs. A.J. BURGNER, age about 50 years, died Wednesday afternoon at her home near Proctor.
Funeral and burial will be at Proctor Friday at 2:30 p.m.

October 23, 1942

WILSON
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in Siloam Springs for Thomas Lee WILSON, age 75 years. Mr. WILSON died at his home here Tuesday morning after suffering the third stroke of paralysis.
He came to Westville to make his home about five years ago, having spent the most of his life in this community.
He leaves to mourn his passing, two sons and one daughter, two brothers and three sisters, and other relatives and friends.
Burial was made in the Wedington cemetery under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.

JONES
Mrs. Lula JONES, age 30 years, of the Proctor community, died enroute to a Tahlequah hospital Tuesday, October 20. Funeral services were held at the Roberts Funeral chapel here Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Jim KETCHER. She is survived by one son, her mother and one sister.
Burial was in the city cemetery by the side of her father, John NEWTON, who died in Westville several years ago.

November 13, 1942

COATS
C.C. COATS, age 66 years, died Wednesday afternoon, November 11, at his home in the Chance community where he had lived the past 17 years. Apparently in good health, Mr. COATS death was attributed to heart trouble.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete awaiting communication from a son, William, who is in the armed forces at Miami, Fla. Besides the son, he is survived by a daughter, Nellie COATS, of the home.

November 20, 1942

ENGLISH
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Lincoln Monday morning for Nate ENGLISH, age 68, who died at his home Saturday, November 14.
Mr. ENGLISH had been in poor health for some months, having suffered the second stroke which caused his death.
Survivors include his wife, one son, and two daughters, one brother and four sisters, beside other relatives and a host of friends.
Burial was made at Dutch Mills under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.

RUSK
Billy Gene RUSK, 3 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee RUSK, died at the family home southwest of town, Monday, November 16. Death was attrributed to pneumonia.
Burial was made at Sallisaw, November 18, Roberts Funeral Home in charge.

November 27, 1942

HENDERSON
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, November 22, at the Roberts Funeral Chapel, for Mrs. Bessie HENDERSON of Saint Helens, Ore. Mrs. HENDERSON, a devoted Christian and member of the Baptist church, died November 16 in a Portland, Oregon, hospital after a five weeks' illness of a brain hemorrhage.
Survivors include her husband, Frank HENDERSON; three daughters, Mrs. Gordan MAKIN, Virginia and Yvonne HENDERSON, all of St. Helens; her mother, Mrs. Mollie MORRIS, Westville; two sisters, Miss Minnie MORRIS, Westville, and Mrs. J.E. HADICK of Beaumont, Texas; four brothers, Lester MORRIS, Westville, Arthur MORRIS, Westwood, Buster MORRIS, Camp Chaffee, Cecil MORRIS of Tulsa; and one granddaughter, Gwendolyn MANKIN, of St. Helens.
Burial was made in the city cemetery.

December 4, 1942

ALLEN
Dexter ALLEN, former Westvile teacher, who is in the Army at Miami, Fla., was called home on account of the death of his father, W.W. ALLEN, age 63, rural mail carrier at Adair, Okla., who was found dead by his wife when she went to the barn Saturday about noon in search of Mr. ALLEN when he failed to return as usual. He had carried the mail Saturday morning and had gone to the barn to attend to his stock when death came, which is attributed to a heart attack.
Funeral services were held at Adair with a second service and burial at Miami, Okla., Tuesday.
Mr. ALLEN had been a steward in the Methodist church for about twenty years; had been a rural carrier for many years, and would have retired in two more years.
Besides the widow and son above mentioned, he leaves three other sons as survivors.

December 11, 1942

SPINKS
J.D. SPINKS, age 32, life long resident of Adair County, living 4 miles southwest of town for the past five years, met instant death about 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon when a shaft broke on a cut-off saw letting the saw fly up, cutting his head open while sawing wood near Baron. Mr. SPINKS was a very industrious farmer and worker, as will be noted by the article appearing on page 2 of this issue, which was printed before we learned of this sad accident.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Roberts Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. T. DeWitt SANKEY, Baptist pastor. Burial was made in the city cemetery.
Survivors include his widow; one son, two daughters, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charley SPINKS; seven brothers, four sisters, other relatives and many friends.
The Record joins their host of friends in extending sincere, heart-felt sympathy for the bereaved family.

CHUCULATE
Mrs. Rebecca CHUCULATE, a former Adair county resident, age 66 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harrison DYE, in Tahlequah Tuesday night.
Burial was made at Hulbert Thursday, December 10, under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
Besides the daughter, survivors include other relatives and friends.

December 18, 1942

PHILLIPS
This community was made sad Wednesday when we learned of the death of a former resident, Dolph (Doc) PHILLIPS, who died Tuesday, December 15, in a Bellflower, California, hospital, after a five days' illness.
Mr. PHILLIPS, age 42, was born here and spent most of his life in this community, having moved to California a short time ago.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Mrs. Ray PHILLIPS, five children, his mother, Mrs. O.A. GALLATIN of this city; and several brothers and sisters.
As we go to press, announcement of funeral services are incomplete. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.
