1941

BATSON
James C. BATSON, age 56, formerly of this section, died at his home at Bentonville, Ark., Sunday. A son, Henry BATSON and a sister Mrs. Rushie PIERCE, live here. Two brothers, Elmer and Marion BATSON, live near Proctor. The body was brought here Tuesday and burial made in the Downing cemetery near Baron. Mr. BATSON was well known here.

1941

POTTER
Private Earl E. POTTER, age 20, of Westville, member of the 82nd Observation Squadron, stationed at a camp near Salinas, Calif., was instantly killed last Friday when two planes collided while on practice flight over a Pacific beach. POTTER is a son of Mrs. T.B. COX living in the Wagnon School community northeast of town. Three Air Corps men died when the two observation planes collided at around 1,000 feet in the air. POTTER and his companion both bailed out of their plane but POTTER'S head struck the stabilizer and he fell to his death with his parachute unopened. The two men in the other ship were drowned when they fell in the sea.
Young POTTER had spent several years of his life here before enlisting in the air corps. The body is being shipped back here by the war department and burial is expected to be made at the former home near Springfield, Mo. So far it is not known just when the body will arrive here.

January 3, 1941

SIMPSON
Mrs. Kate SIMPSON, age 74, formerly of this county and a member of a pioneer Adair county family, died at her home at Chelsa last week after a long illness.  Among the survivors are two brothers, Joe and James B. RUSSELL of this section.

SHOTWELL
W.C. SHOTWELL, age 80, of Cushing, Okla., passed away last Thursday at the home of his daughter near Baron after a brief illness with pneumonia.  Mr. SHOTWELL formerly lived in this section for several years before moving to Cushing and was here on a visit when he became ill.  The body was taken to Cushing for burial.

ALLISON
Mrs. J.C. MORRIS, wife of our Methodist pastor, was called to Lampasas, Texas, last week to the bedside of her brother, Walter ALLISON, who passed away Saturday morning after a brief illness with pneumonia.

SMITH
George W. SMITH, 75, father of Mrs. Nellie FRY of this city, died last Thursday at the home of a daughter in Tulsa. The funeral was held at Prairie Grove, Saturday.

January 8, 1941

POLLOCK
Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine H. POLLOCK, 72 years old, who died at her home Wednesday, was held Friday afternoon at the Methodist church, of which she was a charter member, with Rev. J.C. MORRIS, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. E.H. WININGER, retired Methodist minister. Burial was at the Westville cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Oliver POLLOCK, Joplin, Mo.; two daughters, Mrs. Ora FORD, Westville and Mrs. Lyle BRANT, Long Beach, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Maude LANGFORD, of Sapulpa, Okla.; two granddaughters and six grandsons.

ROBERTS
Funeral services for F.A. ROBERTS, 71 yers old, who died suddenly at his home Thursday morning of a heart attack, were held Sunday afternoon at the Roberts Funeral Chapel. Burial was in the Westville cemetery with the Roberts Funeral home directing arrangements.
Survivors besides his wife, include two daughters, Mrs. Winona Bernice CURTIS, Fayetteville, Arkansas; Mrs. Inez MORRISON, Los Angeles, Calif.; three sons, Paul Alfred ROBERTS, Ernest Milton ROBERTS, and William Lewis ROBERTS, all of Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother, Gene ROBERTS of Junction City, Kansas, and ten grandchildren.

January 10, 1941

POYNOR
The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Joy Lee POYNOR died Tuesday in a Fort Smith hospital. Burial was made in the Westville Cemetery, Wednesday morning. The baby had been named Gary Wayne POYNOR. The condition of Mrs. POYNOR is reported favorable.

RECTOR
Word has been received here this week of the death of Mrs. Fred RECTOR who passed away in a hospital at Pawhuska after a brief illness.

GAINES
Dr. John H. GAINES, age 70, well known Stilwell physician, died last week after a long illness. The funeral was held at Stilwell Thursday afternoon.

HEEL
Funeral services were held Friday for the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob HEEL. Death was caused by the flu. Burial was made in the Baptist Mission cemetery.

January 17, 1941

JONES
Our community mourns the passing of Mrs. A.W. JONES who died here Tuesday after a long illness. Mrs. JONES was born May 19, 1854 and has been a resident of this city for many years.  The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the Roberts Funeral Chapel and burial made in the Westville Cemetery.

GOODWIN
A.J. GOODWIN, age 71 years, prominent citizen of the Christie section, died at his home Sunday after a brief illness. He had lived in this county for some 27 years and was well and favorably known throughout this part of the state. He is survived by his wife and eight children.  Funeral services were held at Christie, Wednesday afternoon and burial made in the Westville Cemetery.

ADDINGTON
C.W. ADDINGTON, age 65, well known and prominent pioneer Stilwell citizen, died in a hospital at Oklahoma City Sunday night after a long illness. The funeral was held at Stilwell.

POLLOCK
Funeral service for Mrs. Josephine H. POLLOCK, 72 years old, who died at her home Wednesday, was held Friday afternoon at the Methodist church, of which she was a charter member, with Rev. J.C. MORRIS, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. E.H. WININGER, retired Methodist minister. Funeral services for F.A. ROBERTS, 71 years old, who died suddenly at his home Thursday morning of a heart attack, were held Sunday afternoon at the Roberts Funeral Chapel. DEARING
We learn of the death of Mrs. Oscar DEARING who passed away at her home at Baton Rouge, La., on January 5. Mrs. DEARING formerly lived at Prairie Grove for several years. The family was well known here.  

FUNKHOUSER
Mrs. Martha Ann FUNKHOUSER died at her home at Summers, five miles east of here, last Thursday morning. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon and burial made in the Sugar Hill Cemetery. She is survived by one son and three daughters.

PYEATT
Mrs. Nan PYEATT, age 81, of Stilwell, sister of T.J. WHITAKER of this city, died Tuesday at the home in Stilwell after a long illness.

SAGER
Arthur SAGER, 65 year old pioneer citizen of Adair county, passed away at his home seven miles south of here Saturday after a lingering illness. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the Baron church, and burial made in the Downing Cemetery near Baron, with the Roberts Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Annie SAGER; two sons and five daughters.

LITTLE
Funeral services for H.F. LITTLE, age 67, pioneer citizen, who died last week, were held Sunday afternoon at the local Pentecostal Holiness church, with Rev. M.L. JERNIGAN, pastor, officiating.  Roberts Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.  Burial was in the Ganderville Cemetery near Summers, Ark.

WALKINGSTICK
Nick WALKINGSTICK, well known member of a prominent Cherokee family of this section, died at the home Sunday after a long illness with tuberculosis. He is survived by eleven children. The funeral was held here Tuesday afternoon and burial made in the Baptist Mission Cemetery.

WILKIE
John W. WILKIE, age 65 years, member of a well known and pioneer Adair county family, died at his home south of town last Friday morning after a long illness. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon and burial made in the family lot in the Alberty Chapel Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Stella KIRK, Westville; five sons, Clint WILKIE, Harvey WILKIE, both of Westville, Jess WILKIE, Summers, Ark., Code WILKIE and Haskell WILKIE of California; three sisters and 14 grandchildren.

PALONE
Funeral service for the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Fount PALONE of this city, were held at the Claud MAUPIN home Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J.R. COHN of Oklahoma City, with Roberts Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The child lived only two hours.

PATTERSON
O.B. VEAZEY, south of town, received news recently of the death of his sister, Mrs. W.B. PATTERSON, age 71, who died at her home near Poteau, January 18, after a few days illness of the flu and pneumonia. Burial was made at Poteau.

BARTLETT
Funeral service for E.M. BARTLETT, Sr., 55 years old, widely known in music circles in Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma, who died at his home in Siloam Springs, Saturday, after a few months illness, was conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist Church in Siloam Springs, with Rev. O.M. STRAWLINGS, Jonesboro, Ark., in charge assisted by the Rev. J.F. BOW, pastor of the Baptist church, Siloam Springs, and the Rev. Melvin BINGHAM, Tulsa. Burial was in the Siloam Springs Cemetery with Roberts Funeral home of Westville directing arrangements. Pallbearers included: Clay RICHESIN, Harrison, Ark., W.H. FLEMING, Morrilton, Ark., Ode LONG, Panama, Okla., Stroud BUCKNER, and W.L. BAGGERLY, Siloam Springs.  Mr. BARTLETT will be remembered here for his many appearences on the county singing convention here (i.e.) and had charge of the music in the opening of the Roberts Funeral Home here. For many years he was owner of the Hartford Music Company, Hartford, Ark., and for the two past years had been associated with the Stamps-Baxter Music company of Dallas.  Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Josephine BARTLETT, two sons, E.M. BARTLETT, Jr., and Charles Scott BARTLETT, all of Siloam Springs; one brother, M.G. BARTLETT, Fort Smith; and three sisters, Mrs. Will PIERCE, Fort Smith, Mrs. Ida HESTER and Mrs. Laura ISREAL, Greenwood, Ark.

WILKIE

Funeral services for Mrs. Tennie WALKER, 52 years old, who died here last Wednesday afternoon, were held at the Roberts Funeral Chapel by Rev. M.L. JERNIGAN.
Mrs. WALKER was the wife of Ely WALKER who has resided at Westville for many years.
Survivors include the husband, two sons and one daughter, all of Westville.

February 12, 1941

A pioneer Westville citizen, W.L. BUCHANAN, age 81, died in a Muskogee hospital Wednesday morning following a major operation. The body was brought here Wednesday afternoon for the funeral to be held at the Roberts Funeral Chapel at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. Burial will be made in the Foreman cemetery.
Mr. BUCHANAN was born and raised at Prairie Grove and had been a citizen of this city for some 25 years. His wife died here last October.
He is survived by two sons and three daughters: William BUCHANAN of Los Angeles, John BUCHANAN of Pueblo, Mrs. Geneva HILLARD of Ponca City, Mrs. Marie CATON, Sioux City, Iowa, and Mrs. Grace HALE of Webbers Falls. Nine grandchildren, one great grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. D.H. ROLLINS of this city and Mrs. Kate COX, Prairie Grove, Ark. also survive.

REESE
A sad and fatal shooting took place at Proctor, 15 miles west of her, last Sunday evening when Johnson (Buck) REESE, age 37, was shot and fatally wounded by Ike MARTIN, his brother -in-law.  REESE is survived by his estranged wife; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard REESE; his brother, Charles; and three sisters, Mrs. Bessie MARTIN, Mrs. Emma KINDLE and Mrs. Katy SCOTT, all of Proctor.

SWEET
W.E. SWEET and son Louie, were called to Fordland, Mo., last week on account of the death of James M. SWEET, age 73, a brother of the former. The deceased was mayor and a prominent merchant of Fordland. He died after a four day illness of pneumonia.

WALKER
Funeral services for Mrs. Tennie WALKER, 52 years old, who died here last Wednesday afternoon, were held at the Roberts Funeral Chapel by Rev. M.L. JERNIGAN.  Mrs. WALKER was the wife of Ely WALKER who resided at Westville for many years.
Survivors include the husband, two sons and one daughter, all of Westville.

WEST
Jim WEST, age 70 years, brother of J.B. WEST of our city, died suddenly at his home at Anadarko, Okla., last Thursday of a heart attack. Mr. WEST was born and raised at Cane Hill, Ark., and was well known here. He was a prominent hardware merchant at Anadarko for several years. His brother here was unable to attend the funeral held Sunday.

ERICKSON
Word has been received here this week of the death of John ERICKSON, a former Westville boy, who died at Denver, Colo., on February 11. Mr. ERICKSON was 48 years old. Among the survivors are a son, Chester ERICKSON, and a daughter, Mrs. Jess REESE, and three grandchildren, of the Chance Comunity. Burial was made at Ft. Collins, Colo. Many friends here are grieved to hear of his death.

BUCHANAN
Funeral services were held here last Friday afternoon for W.L. BUCHANAN, pioneer Westville citizen, and burial made in the Foreman Cemetery.  William Lee BUCHANAN was born October 16th, 1861, at Prairie Grove, Ark.; was married to Lucy EXTINE at Ennis, Texas, to which union was born five children, two boys and three girls; William BUCHANAN of Los Angeles; John BUCHANAN of Pueblo; Mrs. Geneva HILLARD of Ponca City; Mrs. Marie CATON, Sioux City, Iowa; and Mrs. Grace HALE of Webbers Falls; nine grandchildren, one great grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. D.H. KIRK
W.N. KIRK, age 80 years, died Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jess RAMSEY, of south of town, after an illness of several years. Mr. KIRK was born June 27, 1860 at Maytown, Kentucky, and has been a citizen of this section for a number of years. The funeral was held at Wrights Chapel Sunday morning and burial made at Mount Comfort, Ark.
Survivors include six sons and four daughters.

THOMAS
Mrs. Sarah THOMAS, age 70, died at her home near Siloam Springs, Sunday after a brief illness. Among the survivors include Mrs. Bob HART and Mrs. J.D. BIBY of this city. The funeral was held at Summers, Wednesday afternoon.
Her husband, two sons and six daughters survive.

BEAVERS
Mrs. Frances BEAVERS, age 94, pioneer Watts lady, died Monday night at her home in that city. She is survived by four sons and two daughters.

HANCOCK
Mrs. Ira A. HANCOCK of Lincoln, well known here, died Sunday at the home in that city.
Burial was made at Proctor, west of here, Tuesday afternoon.

WHITMIRE
William W. WHITMIRE, age 63, member of a prominent pioneer family of this section, and formerly of this city, died at his home near Stilwell, Monday morning. Mr. WHITMIRE has many relatives in this section. He was prominent in early statehood politics and served one term as Register of Deeds. His many friends of this city and community are greatly grieved at his death.

GIBSON
Stanwatie GIBSON, well known fullblood Cherokee citizen of the Chewey Community, died at his home in this section last Friday after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Tennessee GIBSON and one daughter.

RUHL
Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie RUHL, age 81 years, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary PARROTT at Watts, Saturday morning, were held at the Christian church Sunday afternoon with Rev. C.D. PURLEE of Siloam Springs officiating. Burial was made in the Westville Cemetery.
Mrs. RUHL was a native of Tennessee and made her home on a farm east of this city for several years before the death of her husband some six years ago.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mary PARROTT of Watts; two sons, Otto RUHL, Joplin, Mo.; and Claude RUHL, Decatur, Ark.; six grandchildren; two sisters.

BROWN
Mrs. Ida Ethel BROWN, age 64, wife of Cap BROWN of the Watts community, died at a Siloam Springs hospital last Thursday afternoon after a short illness. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon and burial made in New Hope cemetery.
Survivors include the husband, three daughters, five brothers and one sister.

WHITAKER
B.H. WHITAKER, age 83, a former prominent pioneer citizen of this county, died last Friday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Roy SEBRING at Pittsburg, Kansas. The body was brought here Saturday to the Roberts Funeral Home and on Sunday was taken to Stilwell for the funeral and burial.
He is survived by two daughters, one son and two brothers.  Mr. WHITAKER spent most of his life in this part of the country.

DILDINE
Mrs. Joe DILDINE, formerly of this section, died recently at her home in the Dutch Mills, [Ark.] section. Mrs. DILDINE was well known in this section.

April 4, 1941

YATES
A sad death claiming the life of a former popular Westville girl, occured in a Prairie Grove hospital last Saturday with the passing of Mrs. Eva YATES, age 41, wife of Wallace YATES of Clyde, Ark., and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.F. BRANCHCOMB of this city.  
Mrs. YATES died following an emergency appendicitis operation. She was reared in this city and graduated from the Westville High School in 1920.
Survivors include her husband, two daughters, parents and three brothers.  The funeral conducted by Rev. R.L. BURNS of Muskogee was held at the home at Clyde, Ark., Monday afternoon, and burial made in the Cane Hill Cemetery.
Sincere sympathy is extended the family in their sad loss.

April 18, 1941

LESTER
Word has been received here from Ajlune, Wash., of the accidental death last Thursday of Enos LESTER, age 32, a former Watts citizen. Death was the result of a saw mill accident, but we failed to learn any of the particulars.
Survivors include his wife, father, five brothers and two sisters. The family lived in Watts for several years before moving to Washington. The deceased was well known in this section.

Funeral services were held Saturday for Alvin WILLIAMS of Christie who died Friday after a long illness.

HESS
Funeral services for Mrs. A.C. HESS, age 79, who died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.S. NIXON at Prairie Grove, were held here Sunday afternoon at the Baptist church. The services were conducted by Rev. C.E. HARDY of this city, assisted by Rev. J.M. HARRISON of Prairie Grove. Burial was made in the Westville cemetery.
Mrs. HESS is survived by six daughters, Mrs. J.S. NIXON of Prairie Grove, Mrs. Raymond REDDING and Mrs. Frank MINOR of Westville, Mrs. W.M. BRUNSON, Porter, Okla., Mrs. L.O. SHACKELFORD, Miami, Okla., and Mrs. R.M. HILL of Louisville, KY, two sons, J.E. HESS of Tulsa and W.A. HESS of Siloam Springs, Ark.; two sisters, two brothers, 23 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

BATES
George S. BATES, age 71, a former Westville citizen, died at Fayetteville, Ark., last Friday morning after a long illness. Mr. BATES will be remembered here by many.

BEAN
Billy BEAN, age 68, of Cushing and well known here, died suddenly at his home Saturday evening of a heart attack. He was born and raised at Cane Hill. Besides the immediate family he is survived by one brother, Dr. BEAN of Lincoln; two nieces, Mrs. L.H. JONES and Mrs. J.F. SELLERS of this city; two sisters, Mrs. L.T. JACKSON of Tulsa and Mrs. John D. THOMASON of Vinita.

GOODALL
Mrs. GOODALL, mother of Atty. J.A. GOODALL of Stilwell, died last Friday at her home at Lebnon, (i.e.) Tenn., at the age of 81. Death was the result of a paralytic stroke.

June 6, 1941

NICKENS
A sad accident occured at Watts last Friday morning when a plane piloted by Odell NICKENS, age 23, well known Watts boy, crashed near his homecausing his death.  The young man was a former flying student at the John Brown University and was flying one of the school planes of which he seemed to lose control and the plane crashed, causing injuries to the pilot that resulted in death a few hours later.
He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. N.H. NICKENS, pioneer Watts family.  The funeral was held at the Methodist church in Watts Wednesday afternoon. Many friends of the boy and his family in this city extend sincere sympathy.

GAYLOR
M. GAYLOR, age 67, prominent and well known Stilwell citizen, died at his home in that city Friday as result of a paralytic stroke. Mr. Gaylor was formerly County Superintendent and was well known throughout the eastern part of the state. He had many friends in this city.

WHITAKER
Our little city received a sad shock last Friday morning in the sudden death of T.J. WHITAKER, age 75, a well known pioneer Westville business man. Mr. WHITAKER has been in failing health since an attack of pneumonia last winter and on this account had retired from active business. He had started to town early Friday morning when he suffered a heart attack and died in a few minutes.  Mr. WHITAKER came here some 30 years ago from Dutch Mills and purchased the Westville flour mill, later engaging in the wholesale and retail flour and feed business which he conducted up until a few months ago.  The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the Baptist church, conducted by Rev. SANKEE and Rev. MORRIS. The body was taken to Stilwell for burial.  He is survived by his widow and a brother, Lewis WHITAKER, of Stilwell.  Mr. WHITAKER was a good man and will be greatly missed in our city.

STAREN
Mrs. Savilla May STAREN, age 71, died Saturday at the home of her sister, Mrs. FENNO, at Siloam Springs following a paralytic stroke suffered Thursday.  Mrs. STAREN recently came to this city from Siloam Springs and purchased the J.L. MARRS property just west of the Baptist church.  Burial was made at Siloam Springs Sunday.

ADAIR
Mrs. F.C. ADAIR received word Wednesday of the death of her mother, Mrs. J.A. BALDWIN, who passed away at the home of a daughter in San Antonio, Texas, following a paralytic stroke suffered last week. Mrs. BALDWIN, age 90, had many friends here made on the numerous visits here with her daughter. Burial will be made at Muskogee Saturday. Surviving are one son and two daughters.

July 4, 1941

CASSIDY
Funeral services were held at Ada last Thursday for Rev. "Mike" CASSIDY, age 71, well known Methodist evangelist.
Rev. CASSIDY just recently closed a two weeks revival meeting here at the Methodist church and had many friends in this city.  Death was the result of a paralytic stroke following an operation in a hospital at Temple, Texas.

July 9, 1941

GREEN
Our city had a sad shock Wednesday morning in the sudden death of Dr. E.P. GREEN, widely known and respected local physician. Dr. GREEN had been feeling bad for some two weeks but had continued to take care of his practice and had just begun a minor operation on a patient at his office shortly after 10 o'clock when he suffered a heart attack and died within a few minutes.
Dr. GREEN came to this city from Sallisaw several years ago and built up a large practice. We learn that he had suffered several heart attacks lately and had remarked to a number of his friends that he expected the fatal attack at any time.
Surviving are his widow, one brother and two sisters.
The funeral was conducted at the Roberts Chapel Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock and burial made in the Westville  cemetery. A masonic service was read at the grave.

FOWLER
Miss Artie FOWLER, age 28, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.H. FOWLER of the Chance community, died at the home Saturday after a long illness.  The funeral was held Sunday afternoon and burial made in the New Hope Cemetery.
The deceased is survived by her parents, one sister and one brother.

CHOATE
Mrs. W.E. CHOATE, age 65 well known lady of the Salem Springs community south of here, died Sunday after a long illness. A sister, Mrs. Ruth JONES, lives in this city.  Mrs. CHOATE was well known in this section.

BALDWIN
Mrs. F.C. ADAIR received word Wednesday of the death of her mother, Mrs. J.A. BALDWIN, who passed away at the home of a daughter in San Antonio, Texas, following a paralytic stroke suffered last week. Mrs. BALDWIN, age 90, had many friends here made on the numerous visits here with her daughter. Burial will be made at Muskogee, Saturday. Surviving are one son and two daughters.

COLLINS
George G. COLLINS, age 45, beloved citizen of our city, died at the home here Wednesday morning after an illness dating from his days of service in the U.S. Army during the World War.  Mr. Collins was born at Lincoln, Ark.; was inducted into the army at Fayetteville on July 21, 1918, served several months overseas. Soon after his discharge he was given a rating of total disability and his health continued to fail gradually until death.
The family have made their home here for the past several years and everyone knew and loved Mr. COLLINS who, despite his severe suffering, was cheerful, patient and friendly to all.
Surviving him of the immediate family are his widow and one son.  Funeral services will be held at the Roberts Chapel Friday afternoon at 2:30 and burial made in the Westville Cemetery. The American Legion will assist in the funeral service with military honors for a departed, beloved buddy.

JONES
Our city mourns the passing of a pioneer in the death of Mrs. G.W. JONES who died at the home here Friday morning after a long illness. Mrs. JONES, age 82, has been a resident of Westville for some 40 years, a member of one of our most respected families.  Funeral services were conducted from the Roberts Funeral Chapel Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. J.C. MORRIS, pastor of the local Methodist church, officiating. Burial was made in the Westville Cemetery.  
Survivors include one son, W.G. JONES of Westville; one daughter, Mrs. Beulah OWNBEY of Springdale, Ark., eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

ELLISON / MOUNCE
The bodies of Arvil ELLISON, 20 years old, of this city, and Leo MOUNCE, 20 years old, of Watts, were found on the K.C.S. tracks near Heavener Wednesday morning where it is supposed they were killed by a train sometime during the night. Both were members of a C.C.C. camp at Stapp, Okla.  Both bodies were badly mangeled and indications are they were sleeping on the track when struck by a northbound train. The body of ELLISON was brought to his home here and the body of MOUNCE taken to his home near Watts.  Federal officers from Oklahoma City will investigate the affair. Both boys enrolled in the C.C.C. camp in April, 1940.  Funeral services for the ELLISON boy are set for 6:30 Thursday evening at the Roberts Funeral Chapel.
ELLISON is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. ELLISON of this city; three sisters and five brothers.

WILLIAMS
Anthony F. WILLIAMS, age 87, a citizen of this section for several years, died Friday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T.A. HARMAN, west of town, after a two weeks illness.  Funeral services at the Roberts Funeral Chapel and burial made in the Westville Cemetery.  
Surviving are four children, severl grandchildren and great grandchildren.

KINDLE
John KINDLE, age 69 years, prominent and widely known farmer and stock dealer of the Proctor section, died suddenly in the Dr. YOUNGBLOOD office here early Sunday morning of a heart attack.  Mr. KINDLE had been feeling bad for the past two weeks and came in to see the doctor when he suffered the attack and died almost instantly.  He had been a citizen of this section some 25 yers.  The funeral was held at Proctor Monday afternoon and burial made in the Proctor Cemetery.  
He is survived by his widow and ten children. Mr. KINDLE had many friends in this section of the state.

WILSON
Mrs. M.E. WILSON, age 83, a pioneer Westville lady, died at her home here Sunday afternoon after a long illness. Mrs. WILSON moved to Westville some 22 years ago from Arkansas.
The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the Roberts Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. J.C. MORRIS and Rev. E.H. WININGER. Mrs. WILSON had been a member of the Methodist church for 71 years.
Burial was made in the Westville cemetery.

CANNON / CLARK
Double funeral services were held at Watts last Thursday evening for two pioneer citizens of that city who died there at the same hour Wednesday morning. The deceased were Lucinda CANTRELL CANNON, 87, and Champ CLARK, 79. Both died at exactly 9:20 o'clock Wednesday morning.  Both had lived at Watts ever since the town was started.

COUCH
Harvey COUCH, 63, president of the Kansas City Southern Railway, died Wednesday at his home near Hot Springs, Ark., after a years illness with heart trouble.

August 8, 1941

POTTER
Private Earl E. POTTER, age 20, of Westville, member of the 82nd Observation Squadron, stationed at a camp near Salinas, Calif., was instantly killed last Friday when two planes collided while on practice flight over a Pacific beach. POTTER is a son of Mrs. T.B. COX living in the Wagnon school community northeast of town.
Three Air Corps men died when the two observation planes collided at around 1,000 feet in the air. POTTER and his companion both bailed out of their plane but POTTER's head struck the stabilizer and he fell to his death with his parachute unopened. The two men in the other ship were drowned when they fell in the sea.
Young POTTER had spent several years of his life here before enlisting in the air corps. The body is being shipped back here by the war department and burial is expected to be made at the former home near Springfield, Mo. So far it is not known just when the body will arrive here.

WILSON
Mrs. M.E. WILSON, age 83, a pioneer Westville lady, died at her home here Sunday afternoon after a long illness. Mrs. Wilson moved to Westville some 22 years ago from Arkansas.  The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the Roberts Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. J.C. MORRIS and Rev. E.H. WININGER. Mrs. WILSON had been a member of the Methodist church for 71 years. Burial was made in the Westville Cemetery.

BATSON
James C. BATSON, age 56, formerly of this section, died at his home at Bentonville, Ark., Sunday. A son, Henry BATSON, and a sister, Mrs. Rushie PIERCE, live here. Two brothers, Elmer and Marion BATSON, live near Proctor. The body was brought here Tuesday and burial made in the Downing Cemetery near Baron. Mr. BATSON was well known here.

TISHER
Funeral services were held at Baptist Mission Sunday afternoon for Mrs. Josie Ann TISHER, age 58, of Tahlequah. Mrs. TISHER formerly lived at Watts.

WILSON
A telegram was received here Monday from Los Angeles, Calif., informing relatives of the death of George W. WILSON, formerly of this city.  Mr. WILSON, age 59, a former business man of our city for years and a former county clerk of Adair County, for one term, was widely known throughout this section. The best information we can get - he died suddenly while visiting a brother in Los Angeles.
The body is being brought back to Rogers, Ark., his home since leaving here, and burial will be made at Pea Ridge Cemetery [Ark.], Sunday afternoon.
He is survived by his widow, two daughter, two sons, one brother and a sister, Mrs. C.E. FUSSLEMAN of this city. The many friends here are grieved to learn of his death.

BEAN
Mrs. BEAN, wife of Dr. J.L. BEAN, died at her home at Lincoln last Friday morning following a paralytic stroke suffered early Thursday morning.  Mrs. BEAN made her home in this city several years before the family moved to Lincoln and she has several relatives in this section.  The funeral was held Sunday at Cane Hill [Ark.], her girlhood home.  Mrs. BEAN is survived by her husband, Dr. J.L. BEAN; one daughter, Mrs. Frances RODGERS; two brothers, Dr. Lewis JACKSON, Tulsa, and Hugh JACKSON, Wetwood, California; and one grandson.

FORGEY
John J. FORGEY, age 76, well known citizen of Lincoln, and formerly a resident of this city for several years, died at his home at Lincoln last Sunday after a few weeks illness.  He is survived by his widow, one son, two brother and one sister. Mr. FORGEY was well known throughout this part of the state.

Mrs. American LATE, age 93, mother of A.L. CABE of this city, died last Thursday night at her home west of town after brief illness. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church at Cincinnati and burial made in the Union Cemetery.  
She is survived by one son, A.L. CABE of this city, one brother, one step-daughter, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
[Local News] "Buster" CABE of Higgins Texas, was called here last Friday on account of the death of his grandmother, Mrs. LATE.

ROWE
Mrs. J.D. ROWE, aged 66, of White Hall, Ill., died at her home, Friday, September 12, and was buried in that city Sunday.  Mrs. ROWE, who was an aunt of C.R. PAINTER of this city, had visited here a number of times, and had a number of friends in Westville.

BURRIS
Calvin BURRIS, 3 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. T.W. BURRIS of the Strawberry Springs community west of town, died at the home Monday from a long-standing illness from paralysis.  The funeral was conducted by Rev. Jim KETCHER at the home Wednesday afternoon and burial made in the Westville Cemetery.  Besides the parents, the child is survived by a large number of brothers and sisters.

THOMAS
Mrs. S.O. HOLLAND received the sad news a few days ago of the death of her aunt, Mrs. Mae THOMAS of Leslie, Ark. Mrs. THOMAS was well known in Searcy County, having operated her husband's store in Leslie since his death in 1914. It was in her home tht Mr. and Mrs. S.O. HOLLAND were married.

Otis CLINTON, age 32, well known citizen of the Baron section, died at his home Monday after a brief illness. Burial was made in the Downing Cemetery at Baron Tuesday.  

DANNENBERG

Mrs. L.B. DANNENBERG, prominent and well known lady of Proctor, died Sunday following a long illness. The funeral was held at Proctor Monday. Mrs. DANNENBERG was well known throughout eastern Oklahoma.

October 3, 1941

ALDERSON
Funeral services for Mrs. J.G. ALDERSON, beloved lady of our little city, were held Monday afternoon at the Roberts Funeral Chapel. Services were conducted by Rev. C.E. HARDY, assisted by Rev. J.C. MORRIS.
Mrs. ALDERSON, age 55, passed away last Thursday morning following an operation at a Prairie Grove hospital. Burial was made in the Westville Cemetery under direction of Roberts Undertakers.
Survivors include the husband J.G. ALDERSON of this city; three sons, Leslie ALDERSON, Westville; Bob ALDERSON, New York; Otto ANDERSON, Stilwell, and two daughters, Juanita ALDERSON, San Francisco; Mrs. Joan BOYNE Oklahoma City; her mother Mrs. Kate VAUGHT, Sulphur Springs, Ark.; two brothers, Harry VAUGHT, Rogers, Ark., and Chester VAUGHT, Taft, Calif. Our little city mourns the passing of this good lady.

STROUD
Millard Grady STROUD, 27 years old, well known citizen of Bunch, was shot and killed last week by an officer at Wharton, Texas, where he had been employed for sometime. The body was brought back to Bunch for burial.

Mrs. Lois HAMILTON, age 76, a former citizen of this city, a sister of Mrs. R.L. SELLERS, died at her home in Okmulgee Sunday afternoon. The family formerly lived here and the many friends of the family are grieved to learn of the death of this good lady.
She is survived by her husband, four daughters and two sons. Two sisters surviving are Mrs. R.L. SELLERS of this city and Mrs. Lydia SELLERS of Maysville, Ark.

MARLAND
E.W. MARLAND, age 67, former governor of Oklahoma and one time multi-millionaire oil man, died at his home in Ponca City last Friday after two years illness.

KIRK
The funeral of Buster KIRK, well known Westville citizen, was held here last Thursday. KIRK was killed in an accident while working on a construction job at Gravis, Ill.

JACKSON
Albert JACKSON, age 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. T.U. JACKSON of Summers, died in a Fayetteville hospital Tuesday night, from injuries received in a morotcycle accident on highway 62, near Lincoln Sunday. A young Summers girl, Miss Velva BIBB, riding with the boy was very painfully injured in the accident.
The JACKSON family are well known here and have the sympathy of all in the sad affair.

October 24, 1941

OAKES
Henry Frank OAKES, age 55, a citizen of this section for several years before moving to Jay, Okla., a few months ago, died at his home Friday after a long illness. Survivors of the immediate family are his wife, one son, Herman OAKES of Jay, and a daughter, Mrs. Grace PEARSON of Kansas City. The funeral services were held at Siloam Springs Sunday afternoon.
The family have many friends in this section who extend to them their heartfelt sympathy.

October 25, 1941

OWENS
Allen OWENS, age 39 years, long time resident of this community, died Monday afternoon in a Siloam Springs hospital as a result of injuries received in a truck accident about ten miles west of Siloam Springs on October 20.
OWENS and Calvin CROWDER, also of this community, were taking a load of cattle to Tulsa when OWENS lost control of the machine, resulting in the fatal accident.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the Roberts Funeral Chapel, and burial made in the Baptist Mission cemetery northwest of town.
Survivors include his mother, four brothes and three sisters, other relatives and a host of friends. Heartfelt sympathy is extended the survivors by the entire community.

November 7, 1941

SUMMERS
Mrs. Modena SUMMERS, age 63, an old time resident of the Summers community died at her home Friday, October 31, after a long illness. Burial was made in the Summers Cemetery under the direction of the Luginbuel Funeral Home.
Surviving children are Ann and Fred of Lincoln, Charlie of Summers. She is also survived by four step children.

WHITMIRE
Just as we go to press, we learn of the death of Haskell WHITMIRE, about 35 years old, well known Cherokee citizen of the Adielee community, who died suddenly Wednesday afternoon. Complete details are not available at this time, but from the best we can learn, he died in a truck near Christie.
The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Whitmire.

November 14, 1941

HOLT
T.B. "Trigger" HOLT, age 41, of Fayetteville, well known former Westville resident, died at a Prairie Grove hospital Tuesday afternoon after a short illness of pneumonia.
Mr. HOLT lived here until some fifteen years ago and has many friends in this section.
He is survived by his widow, mother, one brother and two sisters. The funeral will be at Fayetteville Sunday afternoon.

DRAKE
Funeral services for F.M. DRAKE, age 82, who died Saturday, was held Monday forenoon at Vinita with Rev. R.E. BOWERS, Methodist pastor, officiating. Burial was made in the Westville Cemetery.
Mr. DRAKE, who had been living at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dick BLACKBURN of Claremore, died while visiting at the home of another daughter, Mrs. Clifford MOORE of Drumright.
He had operated a large farm near Vinita for many years before retiring. He moved to that city twenty-two years ago from Westville,moving to Oklahoma from Cincinnati, Ark.
Survivors include four daughters, two sons and two brothers.

Funeral services for Mrs. Emma JONES, age 73, was held at her home in Watts, Monday afternoon. Burial was in the Baptist Mission Cemetery.

HAMBRICK
Mrs. O.R. HAMBRICK, age 60 years, died at her home in Watts, Monday.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Baptist Church in Watts.
Burial was in the Greenhill Cemetery in Muskogee.

BOUYEAR
Funeral services for Mrs. Emily Ann BOUYEAR of Watts, were conducted Monday afternoon at the family home in that city, with Rev. J.F. BOW, pastor of the Baptist church in Siloam Springs, Ark., officiating.
Burial was in the Baptist Mission Cemetery northwest of town, under the direction of the Wasson Funeral home. Mrs. BOUYEAR died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. S.G. CHURCH of Neosho, Mo., Saturday.
Surviving her are five sons and three daughters.

WILLIAMS
Mrs. Siddie WILLIAMS, age 79 years, who has been in poor health for some time, died at the home of her son, Jim WILLIAMS, in Christie on November 26. Funeral services were held at the Roberts Funeral Chapel in this city on Friday afternoon, with burial in the Foreman cemetery west of town.
Survivors of the immediate family include four sons.

SANDERS
Mrs. Samuel SANDERS, age 68 years, pioneer Cherokee lady of the Proctor community, west of town, died November 22 at the family home.
Funeral services were held November 25, at the Proctor church, the Rev. Jim Ketcher, officiating. Burial was made in the Proctor Cemetery under the direction of the Roberts Funeral Home of Westville.
Survivors include her husband, Samuel SANDERS; two sons, Tom SANDERS of Nevada, and Charley SANDERS, Proctor and one daughter of Proctor.

MASON
W.H. MASON, age 70 years, resident of our city for the past year and a half, died very suddenly Saturday morning with dropsy of the heart after an illness of some two years.
Funeral services were held here at the Roberts Funeral Chapel, Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. Jim KETCHER, Holiness minister, officiating. Burial was made in the Proctor Cemetery.
The family lived in the Green community, southwest of town, for a number of years before moving to town.
He is survived by the widow, seven children, twenty grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

DINGES
Mrs. M.R. TITTLE, Jr., of this city received a message Monday informing her of the sudden death of her mother, Mrs. Margaret DINGES, 77 years old, of Little Rock Ark., who died of a heart attack Monday afternoon. Funeral services and burial was in Little Rock Wednesday afternoon.

WILLIAMS
Mrs. Siddie WILLIAMS, age 79 years, who has been in poor health for some time, died at the home of her son, Jim WILLIAMS, in Christie on November 26th. Funeral services were held at the Roberts Funeral Chapel in this city on Friday afternoon, with burial in the Foreman Cemetery west of town.

MCGINTY
Mrs. Pauline WYRICK MCGINTY, 86 years olf, a resident of this community for more than forty years, died last week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bill HEAL of this city, with whom she had made her home. Death was due to a stroke of paralysis suffered Thanksgiving day. Funeral services were held at the Heal home, conducted by Rev. J.C. MORRIS, local Methodist pastor, and burial was made in the Baptist Mission Cemetery north of town.
Survivors include one son, John MCGINTY of Miami, Okla., two daughters, Mrs. HEAL and Mrs. Martha PILGRIM, both of Westville; 37 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; a brother, John WYRICK of Wyandotte, Okla.; and three sisters, Mrs. Sude CRIPPEN, Collinsville, Okla., and Mrs. Sallie WALDRON and Mrs. Adline WALDRON, both of Washburn, Mo.

SEBRING
Dean SEBRING, age 49, editor of the Westville Record for the past 30 years, died late Friday afternoon, December 12, in the United States Veterans hospital at Fayetteville, Ark., after several months illness, the last seven weeks as a patient in that institution.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Roberts Funeral Chapel here, with the Rev. J.C. MORRIS, local Methodist minister, officiating, assisted by the Rev. E.H. WININGER, retired Methodist minister. Burial was made in the city cemetery, with the Masons and American Legionaires taking part in the services.
Mr. SEBRING, widely known in eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas, was born April 16, 1892, at Nowata, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas SEBRING, and moved to Westville in 1900. In 1919 he was married to Miss Elsie HODGES, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. HODGES, pioneer Westville merchant. Dean, as he was known to his many friends, was a member of the local Methodist church, a former chairman of the board of stewards and at the time of his death, a trustee of the church. He was a member of the Adair County Draft Board, a Mason, an Odd Fellow and a member of the American Legion, serving as service officer for the local post at the time of his death.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Elsie SEBRING; two brother, M.H. SEBRING of Okmulgee, and W.R. SEBRING of Pittsburg, Kansas; two sister, Mrs. C.B. RHODES of Muskogee, and Mrs. Maud EVANS, Siloam Springs, Ark., many other relatives, and a host of friends. The following relatives attended the funeral Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. C.B.
