Masonic Funeral Rites Today for Former Mayor

VINITA (OK), November 19 (1936)
Mayor A. D. WARNER today issued a proclamation asking all business houses be closed from 2 o'clock until 3 o'clock Friday afternoon during funeral serves for George W. KARR, former mayor, member of the city council and prominent charity worker. Karr was at one time head of the Red Cross chapter in Craig county, and during two winters operated a soup kitchen in this city. He died Monday afternoon of a heart attack.
Services will be held at the Christian church with Rev. O. T. MOLINE, pastor, in charge. Interment will be made in the Fairview cemetery.
Active pallbearers were announced as George FOGLE, S. F. WALLEN, Grady GRIFFIN, M. R. KAPPS, J. A. MORRISON AND Charles POWELL.
Honorary pallbearers: Mayor A. D. WARNER, Sam LOVE, C. C. LONG, H. C. DEMUNBRUN, Clyde THOMPSON, J. H. WIMER, James KENREIGH, Ed HILL, Joe A. FREDERICK, Roy WARNER, John HAVEN and J.W. HALL.
The Masonic lodge will have charge of the services, Interment will be made under direction of the Reid Luginbuel Funeral Home.

Another obituary, paper unknown, year unknown probably in 1936 which came a clipping in my aunt's scrapbook. She was Lovie Mai Fryer who was married to Earl Karr, the son of George W. Karr, had one known child, then divorced.

Heart Attack Proves Fatal to Former Mayor of Vinita

VINITA, Nov. 16 -- GEORGE W. KARR, 72, former Vinita mayor, and later member of the city council, died suddenly today from a heart attack.
Karr was working on the roof of his bilding, occupied by the Vinita Motor company at the time of the attack, and was rushed across the street to the Vinita Hospital, where efforts to revive him failed.
He is survived by his wife, five sons, W. D. of Leuders, Texas; LOY and CHARLES of Roseville, Cal.; MELVIN of Sacramento, Cal., and EARL of Montique. Cal.: four daughters, Mrs. J. C. MERTON, Mrs. E. J. ROBINSON and Mrs. J. R. SUETTA of Roseville, and Mrs. PEARL MELONE, Silver Creek, Nevada; also one grandaughter and three grandsons.
Funeral services will not be announced until word is received from relatives, according to officials of the Reid Luginbuel Funderal Home.

Isaac Newton JOHNSON

Last rites for Newt JOHNSON, 82, who died suddenly Friday, March 2, 1945, will be held Sunday at the Luginbuel chapel with Rev. R. P. Loudermilk officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery.
Mr. JOHNSON was born May 25 1863 in Wappello Co. Iowa, to Nicholas JOHNSON and Elizabeth (MANAUGH) JOHNSON. He is survived by his wife, Eliza Jane McQUERRY, to whom he was united in marriage Oct 1, 1888 at Mercer Co, Missouri.
Other survivors are their five children, Leona DOERFLINGER, Arley JOHNSON, and Inez CROCKETT all of Vinita; Arthur JOHNSON of Ponca City, Ok; Cloe TARTAR of Texas, and eight grandchildren.

JOHNSON , Arley Winfield
Arley Winfield JOHNSON, 48, passed away at his home in Vinita, May 27, 1945, after a long illness, originating from a coal mining accident in the 1920s near Bluejacket, Okla, which left him with a broken back and spine.
Mr. JOHNSON was born August 22, 1896 in Modena, Mercer Co. Mo. to Newt JOHNSON (who predeceased him earlier this year in March) and Eliza Jane McQUERRY. Other survivors besides his mother and nephew, Melvin JOHNSON, of the home, are one brother, Arthur of Ponca City, Okla, three sisters; Leona DOERFLINGER and Inez CROCKETT, both of Vinita, and Cloe TARTAR of Spearman, Tx.
Funeral services will be held at the Luginbuel chapel, with Rev. R. P. Loudermilk officiating, and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

CROCKETT, Robert Andy
Robert Andy CROCKETT, a retired Craig County farmer, died Jan 8 1959 in a Muskogee hospital following a long illness.
Mr. CROCKETT was born Feb 4 1888 in Kentucky. He had lived in the Carselowey community near here for 28 years before moving to Vinita six years ago.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Inez (JOHNSON) CROCKETT of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Jane TOMPKINS and Mrs. Allene LANG; two sons, Bobby CROCKETT and Eddie CROCKETT; five grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. F. I. LAWRENCE, Mrs. W. G. SLATE, and Mrs. Mary ANDREWS, and one brother, Dave CROCKETT.
Luginbuel Brothers Funeral home is in charge of arrangements, with internment to be at the Carselowey Cemetery.

J. Berry TARTAR, of Vinita, died Nov. 9 1973 at a local hospital. He was owner and operator of the Tartar Iron and Metal Works and had lived in Vinita for the past 40 years.
Mr. TARTAR, a World War I veteran, was born Jan 29 1899 at Mena, Ark to Elias and Ada TARTAR. He was married to Chloe JOHNSON Dec 3 1934.
Survivors include his widow of the home; two brothers, Jack TARTAR, Calif. and George TARTAR, Wagoner, Okla. Two sisters also survive, Mrs. Minnie CONRAD, Wagoner, and Mrs. May HILTON, Calif.
Funeral services will be at the Luginbuel Funeral Chapel, Rev. James D. MOSS, pastor of the First Church of God, officiating, and with interment in Fairview Cemetery.

Inez CROCKETT, age 92, lifetime Vinita area resident, died Aug 9, 1991, at the Autumn Nursing Center.
She was born Apr 27, 1899 in Indian Territory to Newt and Jane (McQUERRY) JOHNSON, and was married to Robert A. CROCKETT, who preceded her in death on Jan 8, 1959. Mrs. CROCKETT was a very active member of the First Church of God.
Survivors include two sons, Eddie CROCKETT, Nevada, and Bobby CROCKETT, Oklahoma, and two daughters, Allene LANG, Nevada, and Mary TOMPKINS of California. There are eight grandchildren and eight grand-grandchildren.  Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be in the Luginbuel Funeral Home chapel, with Rev. Eddie WRINKLE officiating, and interment to follow at the Carselowey Cemetery, southeast of Vinita. Casket Bearers will be Kenneth FUNK, H. A. LAWSON, Estey WEAVER, John McKISICK, Bill GARDNER, and Bob HASLETT.

Mary Jane LORD was born in Kewanee, Illinois on November 23, 1863 and died December 7, 1952 at the age of 89 years, 3 weeks and 3 days.
She was united in marriage to James SIMPSON born December 30, 1857 in Wooster Ohio, on December 35, 1880 at Ida Grove, Ida County, Iowa.
To this union was born sixteen children, ten girls and six boys: Mrs. Mina PATTERSON, Mrs. Rosa FINCK, Mrs. Nellie HALL, Mrs. Lillian FINCK, all of Kansas; Alfred and Forrest SIMPSON of Colorado; Roy SIMPSON of Colorado; Mrs. Ida WEITNER, , Kansas; Mrs. Lottie BULLARD, California; Mrs. Erma JACOBS,Oklahoma; Mrs. Emma PARSON, Kansas, Mrs. Minne LOSEY, Nebraska; Jennie YOUNG, Kansas; Clyde SIMPSON, Kansas; and Theodore SIMPSON of the home, and one son James SIMPSON who preceded her in death.
Her husband James Simpson passed away February 6, 1937
She leaves to mourn her passing, 15 children, 41 grand children, 56 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. A host of friends and neighbors.
