CASWELL
Mrs. Nora Marie CASWELL, 69 year old Evansville, Ark., resident, died Sunday
at her home following a along illness. Mrs. CASWELL, born December 25, 1907,
in Evansville, was a member of the Evansville Community Church. Survivors
include: two sons, L.J. CASWELL, Evansville, and Gene CASWELL, Figure Five,
Ark.; one daughter Geneva NEFF, Evansville; three brothers, Bob COLTON, Muskogee,
and Charley and Walter COLTON, both of Washington State; and five sisters,
Jimmie LOVEJOY and Clorene PHILLIPS, both of Evansville, Kate REED, Stilwell,
Ann SCHMIDT, St. Louis, Mo., and Margaret RUDAS, Blue Island, Ill.
Services were held Tuesday in the Methodist Church of Evansville with the
Rev. Tim GILES officiating. Interment was in the Lewis Cemetery.
FIVEKILLER
Cleveland (Clebe) FIVEKILLER, 95, a retired farmer, died Wednesday, May 25
in the Hastings Hospital in Tahlequah. FIVEKILLER, born March 30, 1882, in
Sequoyah County, was a member of the United Methodist Indian Church. He made
his home with a niece, Audie LAWSON of Lyons Switch. Other survivors include
four other nieces and seven nephews. Services were held Friday, May 27 in
the Roberts funeral Chapel with Bro. Levi FLUTE officiating. Interment was
in the Clear Springs Cemetery.
YOUNG
Mrs. Mary WATERS YOUNG, 72, died May 24 in the Stilwell Municipal Hospital.
Mrs. YOUNG, born December 6, 1904 in Braggs, Indian Territory, is survived
by two sons, Robert and Joe YOUNG, both of Stilwell; three daughters, Viola
BROWN, Stilwell, Louise BURNETT, Oklahoma City, and Juanita BROWN, Tulsa;
18 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Services were held May 26 in
the Roberts Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jack STANLEY officiating. Interment
was in the Salem Cemetery.
LARWOOD
Services for Dr. Charles Homer LARWOOD, 81, were held Sunday in the Hart
Funeral Chapel in Westville. The Rev. Dale THURLBY officiated, and interment
was in the Westville City Cemetery. He died last Friday in the Stilwell Municipal
Hospital. Dr. LARWOOD, born November 8, 1895, in Melbourne, Ark., was Dean
of Pharmacy of Toledo (Ohio) University. During World War 1, he served in
the U.S. Navy and in World War 11, he was a captain in the U.S. Army Medical
Corps.
He moved to Westville after retiring from his university post in Toledo.
He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church inWestville.
Survivors include a sister, Ann LARWOOD, Westville, and a brother, Edward
LARWOOD, Long Beach, Calif.

RYALS
Gary Austin RYALS, born December 4, 1936, in Tahlequah, is survived by; his
wife, Mrs. Loretta RYALS of the home, Route 1, Stilwell; two sons, Gary RYALS,
Jr. and Mark RYALS, both of Tahlequah; three daughters, Linda HAYES, Tresa
GOWEN and Shelly RYALS, all of Tahlequah; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William
RYALS, Welling; two brothers, William RYALS, Jr., Welling, and Robert RYALS,
Park Hill; and one sister, Janola KENDALL, Proctor.
Services for RYALS were held Friday in the Roberts Funeral Chapel with Bro.
Charley DUVALL officiating. Interment was in the MCLEMORE Cemetery.
BAIRD
Claudie Ray BAIRD, born May 27, 1935, in Oklahoma, is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Beulah BAIRD, one son, Michael Ray BAIRD, and two daughters, Tresa A.
and Laura BAIRD, all of the home on Route 3, Stilwell; four sisters, Gertrude
MCMURTREY, Mary A. WOLF and Betty LONG, all of Stilwell, and Annie Sue VILINES,
Fayetteville, Ark.; and five brothers, Curtis, Asher, Edward L., James and
Robert F. BAIRD, all of Stilwell, Earl BAIRD, Westville, and Johnnie BAIRD,
Oklahoma City.
Services for BAIRD were held Monday in the Roberts Funeral Chapel with the
Rev. Aaron BARTON officiating. Interment was in the Pilgrim Rest Cemetery.
NICKENS
Noah Henry NICKENS, 94, a resident of Watts, died Monday, July 25 in the
Tahlequah City Hospital. NICKENS, born January 20, 1883, in Arkansas, is
survived by his wife Susie Ann NICKENS, Tahlequah; two sons, Floyd NICKENS,
Walla Walla, Wash., and Orville NICKENS, Pittsburg, Kansas; two daughters,
Joyce CONVEY, Westville, and Inez MCLEOD, Watts; 20 grandchildren and 44
great grandchildren.
Services were held July 28 in the Watts United Methodist Church with the
Rev. Dale THURLBY, Westville, officiating. Interment was in the Watts Cemetery
under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home, Westville.
PATTERSON
Mrs. Ruby Virginia PATTERSON, 67, a former resident of Stilwell, died July
26 in Tulsa.
Mrs. PATTERSON, born February 20, 1910, is survived by: her husband, Benjamin
Huey PATTERSON of the home in Tulsa; two sons, Raymond and Jerry Max PATTERSON,
both of Sand Springs; six daughters, Alma HILL and Doris CHURCHILL, both
of Sand Springs, Reccie KESTER, Stilwell, Carlene BATEMAN, Oklahoma City
and Bonnie BATES and Virginia NAIL, both of Hamilton, Texas; one brother,
Everett WILLIAMS, Hobbs, N.M.; two sisters, Mahala KIRK and Beatrice RHOADES,
both of Marble City; 21 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She
was of the Holiness faith.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Moble Dodson Funeral
Home of Sand Springs, and interment was in the Woodland Cemetery, Sand Springs.
SMITH
Charles Harold SMITH, 52 year old native of Adair County, died Tuesday of
last week in the Veterans Hospital in Muskogee following a two year
illness.
SMITH, born November 13, 1924, in Christie, was employed by the Bendix Corp.
in Kansas City, Mo., for 30 years before moving to Muskogee 10 years ago.
He was a veteran of World War 11.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Nora SMITH of the home, 116 S. 38th St.,
Muskogee; one son, Harold SMITH, Carl Junction, Mo.; three daughters, Linda
BATCHELDER and Rebecca PRICE, both of Muskogee, and Marlene HOLLINGSWORTH,
Sibley, Mo.; two brothers, Ralph SMITH, Belton, Mo., and Bill SMITH, Raymore,
Mo.; one sister, Pat PENNINGTON, Kidder, Mo.; and eight grandchildren.
Services were held Friday in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel, Tahlequah, with
the Rev. W. Clayton DAVIS officiating. Interment was in the Memorial Park
Cemetery in Muskogee.
BIBB
Ernest D. BIBB, 79, died Friday in the Stilwell Municipal Hospital. BIBB,
born March 10, 1898, in Ozark, Ark., is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cora Lou
BIBB of the home on Route 3, Stilwell; one son, Bill BIBB, Sallisaw; one
daughter, Lola Dean ROSS, Houston, Texas; two brothers, Henry and Richard
BIBB and three sisters, Sallie MULLEN, Hazel PUGH, and Opal MOORE.
Services were held Sunday in the Roberts Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ralph
CASTEEL officiating. Interment was in the Buffington Cemetery near Sallisaw.
HUNTER
Mrs. Martha Evelyn HUNTER, a resident of Stilwell, died Sunday in the Stilwell
Municipal Hospital. She was 78 years old.
Mrs. HUNTER, born October 24, 1898 in Ellijay, Georgia, is survived by: her
husband, Charley HUNTER of the home at 514 W. Olive St., Stilwell; four sons,
Ralph HUNTER, Bend, Oregon, Vernon HUNTER, Chester, Calif., and Omer and
Clifton HUNTER, both of Stilwell; one daughter, Dorothy SCHAFFER, Idaho Falls,
Idaho; and two brothers, Dave CHASTAIN, Bartlesville, and Robert CHASTAIN,
Stilwell.
Services were planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Roberts Funeral Chapel
with the Rev. Herbert PATTERSON and the Rev. Tim GILES officiating and interment
in the Pilgrim Rest Cemetery.
MCCLURE
Mrs. Carrie E. MCCLURE, a former resident of Adair County, died July 23 in
Yakima, Wash., following a short illness. Mrs. MCCLURE, born May 10, 1897,
in Swain, Ark., lived in Adair County for many years. She was a Stilwell
school teacher and social worker before moving to Yakima.
Survivors include: two brothers, Ray ELLIS, Shawnee, and Roland ELLIS, Sand
Springs; and one sister, Leila ELLIS, Palms, Calif. Services and interment
were in Yakima on July 26.

JOHNSON
Mrs. Julia Ruth JOHNSON, 76 year old Tulsa resident, died July 20 in Tulsa.
Mrs. JOHNSON, born September 27, 1900, in Cincinnati, Ark., is survived by;
five daughters, Genevieve ROLAND, Pennsylvania, Lavonne MILLARD, Tulsa, Ruth
GORDON, Las Vegas, Nev., June HOLLAND, California, and Marjorie NASH, Buena
Park, California; three brothers, Tom PARKHURST, Miami, George PARKHURST,
Seminole, and Jess PARKHURST, Bristow; one sister, Rena OWENS, Claremore;
two nieces Hattie LESTER and Cora Faye PATTERSON, both of Westville; and
14 grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, July 23 at Moore's Eastlawn Chapel, Tulsa, with
graveside services Saturday afternoon in the Cincinnati Cemetery (Ark.) with
the Rev. Dale THURLBY officiating, under the direction of Hart Funeral Home,
Westville.
WHITTEN
Services for Thomas Oscar WHITTEN, 77, who died August 1 at his home north
of Westville, were held August 4, in the Hart Memorial Chapel in Westville.
The Rev. Harold DUVALL, Huntsville, Ark., officiated. Interment was in the
Baptist Mission Cemetery.
WHITTEN, born October 8, 1899, in Clarksville, Ark., was a member of the
Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Provahan, MCDONALD, Tulsa, and Bobbie HUDSON,
Skiatook; four sons, Jeral WHITTEN, Westville, Sam WHITTEN, Skiatook, Carl
WHITTEN, Tulsa, and Eddie WHITTEN, Broken Arrow; one sister, Esther COOPER,
Tulsa; 13 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
JOHNSTON
Mrs. Mary R. JOHNSTON, 88, died early Monday in the Stilwell Municipal
Hospital
Mrs. JOHNSTON, born March 26, 1889, in Chester, Ark., is survived by; one
son, Earl JOHNSTON, Cushing; two daughters, Mrs. Middie FIELDS and Mrs. Fleeta
ANDERSON, both of Stilwell; one brother, Lem FRANCE, Winslow, Ark.; and three
sisters, Flossie MASTERSON, Tahlequah. Effie THOMAS, Fayetteville, Ark.,
and Bobby HARDING, Judsonia, Ark.
Services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Roberts Funeral Chapel with Bro.
Bob HALL officiating. Interment was in the Stilwell City Cemetery.

PARKHURST
Mrs. Artie PARKHURST, 79, a resident of the Westville Nursing Home, died
August 8 in the Siloam Springs (Ark.) Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. PARKHURST, born March 22, 1898, in Indian Territory, is survived by:
one daughter, Gladys Ellen HAIRGROVE, Denver, Colo.; one son, Wayne E. PARKHURST,
Gentry, Ark.; one sister, Sadie BEAVERS, Westville; two granddaughters, Sherri
DEASON, Gentry and Cathy MERCER, Denver; five grandsons, Jerry PARKHURST
and Danny Wayne PARKHURST, both of Gentry, Wylie HAIRGROVE, Loveland, Colo.,
Kirby HAIRGROVE, Denver, and Jerry HAIRGROVE, Fairmont, W. Va.
Services were held Wednesday, August 10 in the Old Baptist Mission Church,
north of Westville, with the Rev. Ted TURNER officiating.
Interment was in Baptist Mission Cemetery under the direction of Roberts
Funeral Home, Westville.
VANN
Thomas VANN, 71 year old resident of Watts, died Saturday, August 6 in the
Hastings Indian Hospital at Tahlequah.
VANN, born January 2, 1906, in Indian Territory, is survived by: his wife,
Bessie of the home; four sons, Jimmie VANN, J.T. VANN and Lincoln VANN, all
of Watts and Rex VANN, Proctor; three daughters, Mae MENTZ, Kansas City,
Mo., Molly PERSCHICA, Marietta, and Betty JACKSON, Santa Ana, Calif.; three
brothers, Sam VANN, Willie VANN, and Bob VANN, all of Watts; two sisters,
Marie RUSSELL and Irene SNELL, Watts; 23 grandchildren and eight great
grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, August 8 in the Roberts Funeral Chapel, Westville,
with the Rev. Sam HIDER, Jay, officiating. Interment was in Rocky Ford Cemetery,
Tahlequah.
BURCH
Dr. Richard J. BURCH, 69, a former resident of Stilwell, died August 9 in
Lexington, Ky., following a five week illness.
Dr. BURCH, son of Mrs. Frank BURCH, a former long time Stilwell High School
teacher who now lives in Sand Springs, was born in Quinton and came to Stilwell
with his parents at an early age. He was graduated from Stilwell High
School.
He was an oral surgeon and former faculty member at the University of Kentucky
College of Dentistry.
Dr. BURCH, who retired from teaching in 1975, went to the University of Kentucky
in 1962 following 20 years in the U.S. Air Force as a dental surgeon.
He was appointed consultant to the commanding general, Far Eastern Air Forces,
in 1951 and traveled extensively in the Far East, performing surgery and
conducting consultations. He was the first diplomat of a national board in
the U.S.A.F. Dental Service, serving on the American Board of Oral Surgery.
He planned, organized and chaired the first approved Air Force training program
in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery from 1953 to 1960. As a nationally
recognized lecturer, professor and authority on maxillofacial surgery. Dr.
BURCH contributed over 28 articles to scientific publications and eight color
training films to the fields of teaching and science.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Agnes SIMPSON BURCH of the home in Lexington,
Ky.; three daughters; his mother, Mrs. Frank BURCH of Sand Springs; and one
sister, Mrs. Virginia LACKEY, also of Sand Springs. Services were held Saturday
in Lexington and interment was conducted Monday at Arlington National Cemetey,
Arlington, Va.
CHUCULATE
John CHUCULATE, 75, died Tuesday, August 9 in the Stilwell Municipal Hospital
following a brief illness.
CHUCULATE, born January 22, 1902, in Bunch, operated a service station and
garage in Stilwell at the time of his death.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Effie CHUCULATE of the home in Stilwell;
two sons, Raymond C. CHUCULATE, Tulsa, and Gerald CHUCULATE, Stilwell; and
two daughters, Gladys BROWN, Stilwell, and Rose Mary RICHARDSON, Sand
Springs.
Services were held Thursday, August 11, in the Roberts Funeral Chapel with
the Revs. Noble CASEY and John BLACKWOOD officiating. Interment was in the
Bunch Cemetery.
ADAIR
Mrs. Mary ADAIR, 79, died Monday at the Hastings Hospital in Tahlequah.
Mrs. ADAIR, born February 28, 1898 is survived by one son, Samuel ADAIR,
Weatherford, Texas; three daughters, Sadie SPRINGWATER, Stilwell, Virginia
HODGE, Welling, and Sue SAUL, Longview, Texas; one son Billy G. ADAIR, Santa
Clara, Calif., two brothers, Jim and Sam BUNCH, both of Stilwell, and two
sisters, Adeline DOUBLEHEAD and Sarah KILLER, both of Stilwell.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) in the Chuculate Church
with Bro. Johnny GOODRICH officiating. Interment in the Chuculate Cemetery
will be under the direction of the Roberts Funeral Home.
DORNBRACK
Services for Robert D. DORNBRACK, 47 year old Adair County school teacher,
who died Saturday in the Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville, Ark., following
a brief illness, were held Monday in the Hart Funeral Chapel in Westville.
The Rev. John GOODRICH officiated, and interment was in the Green Cemetey
near Westville.
DORNBRACK, born May 31, 1930, in Stilwell, was a veteran of the Korean Conflict,
and a graduate of Northeastern State University, Tahlequah. He had taught
at the Christie School the past 18 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Pat DORNBRACK of the home in Westville;
one son, Gary Dewayne DORNBRACK, Westville; one daughter, Patricia TILLERY,
Jonesboro, Ark.; his mother, Mrs. Ora DORNBRACK, Stilwell; two brothers,
Edgar DORNBRACK , Kansas City, Kansas, and Charles DORNBRACK, Stilwell; three
sisters, Mrs. Gladys DUVALL, Mrs. Joyce QUALLS and Mrs. Rene CHUCULATE, all
of Stilwell; and one grandson.
BOYD
Curtis BOYD, 49, a native of Stilwell, died Sunday in Muskogee Genral
Hospital.
BOYD, born January 16, 1928, in Stilwell, moved to Muskogee six years ago
from California.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Kathleen BOYD of the home, 326 Elmire,
Muskogee; his father, Steve BOYD, Oroville, Calif.; his mother, Mrs. Opal
CHAMBERS, Muskogee; three sons, two daughters, two brothers, Daniel BOYD,
Sallisaw, and Bill BOYD, Oroville; two sisters, Mrs. Bonnie BRISCOE, Muskogee,
and Mrs. Alma Lee SEABOLT, Okay.
The Lescher Funeral Home, Muskogee, is in charge of arrangements.

LUPER
Mrs. Dora Dove LUPER, 82 year old resident of Tulsa, died Sunday, August
14 in Collinsville Manor, Collinsville.
Mrs. LUPER, born July 23, 1895, in Indian Territory, is survived by: her
husband Linn LUPER, Talihina; one daughter, Evelyn MCCOY, Tulsa; two brothers,
Floyd MITCHELL, Watts, and Sam MITCHELL, Talala.
Services were held Wednesday, August 17 at the New Hope Baptist Church, northwest
of Westville with the Rev. Clark WILSON, Sapulpa, officiating. Interment
was in New Hope Cemetery under direction of Roberts Funeral Home, Westville.
WOOD
Services for Tom Garret WOOD, 70, were set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Hart
Funeral Home Chapel in Westville with the Rev. John BENNETT and the Rev.
Ted TURNER officiating and interment in the Westville Cemetery. WOOD, born
December 15, 1906, in Cauthron, Ark., was a rancher and farmer.
He died Monday at his home following a heart attack.
Survivors include: his wife, Nellie of the home; eight daughters, Irene GRAY
of Oklahoma City, Dorothy SPENCER and Ann Leanna HOBACK, both of Choctaw,
Dixie QUINTON of Harrah, Ione MARTIN, Mary CRITTENDEN, Nellie CRITTENDEN
and Ina Joe CRITTENDEN, all of Westville; three sisters, Opal ALRED of Napa,
Calif., Mary STANLEY of Santa Marie, Calif., and Ruby RUSSELL of Oklahoma
City; 19 grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
MCLEMORE
Mrs. Margie Faye MCLEMORE, 39, died Monday in Tahlequah City Hospital. Mrs.
MCLEMORE was the wife of Wallace MCLEMORE of Route 1, Westville.
She was born September 20, 1938 in Texas, and is survived by, her husband;
two sons, Gregg MCLEMORE, Fort Smith, Ark., and Barry MCLEMORE, Nashville,
Tenn.; one daughter, Kelsey BALLARD, Arkansas City, Kansas; her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Dewey DICKEY, Enid; two brothers, Robert DICKEY, Dallas, Texas
and Del DICKEY, Enid; and one sister, Mary Hardesty, Dallas.
Services were set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Sequoyah Church with Bro. Johnny
GOODRICH officiating and interment in the Clear Springs Cemetery. Arrangements
are under the direction of the Roberts Funeral Home.
STARR
Monroe STARR, 51 a native of Stilwell died Wednesday, August 17 in Muskogee
General Hospital following a brief illness.
STARR, born March 25, 1926 in Stilwell, owned the Starr Piano Repair and
Tuning firm in Muskogee.
Services were held Saturday in the Bacone College Memorial Chapel with the
Rev. Bob GLADD and the Rev. Ralph DRESHEM officiating. Interment was in the
Greenhill Cemetery.
PETTIGREW
Wade PETTIGREW, an Adair County farmer, died Wednesday, August 17 in the
Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Ark., following a long
illness. He was 56 years old. PETTIGREW, born November 12, 1920 in Farmington,
Ark., was a veteran of World War 11.
He was married to his wife, Effie, June 2, 1947. He attended the Pentecostal
Holiness Church in Stilwell.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the home on Route 2, Stilwell, include:
four sons, Larry Wade, Billy Jack, Roy H. and Johnny L. PETTIGREW, all of
Stilwell; one daughter, Glenda GOSA, Tipton; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde
PETTIGREW; and 13 grandchildren.
Services were held Friday in the Roberts funeral Chapel with the Rev. Hubert
SPONSLER and Rev. Herman ISAACS officiating. Interment was in the Farmington
Cemetery.
SCROGGINS
Services for James Buster SCROGGINS, 71, Wagoner, were set for 2 p.m. Wednesday
in the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Wagoner with interment in the Elmwood
Cemetery.
SCROGGINS, born in Arkansas, had lived in Wagoner since 1923.
Survivors include his wife, four sons, six daughters, including Ruby CARR
of Stilwell, two sisters, 24 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
MCSPADDEN
Mrs. Madalyn K MCSPADDEN, 77 mother of former U.S. Rep. Clem MCSPADDEN of
the Second Congressional district, died Friday in Chelsea.
Mrs. MCSPADDEN, born at Fort Gibson, Indian Territory, is survived by her
husband, Herb MCSPADDEN; two other sons, Trent MCSPADDEN, Chelsea, and Bob
MCSPADDEN, Vinita; and 11 grandchildren.
Services were held Monday in St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Claremore.
Interment was in the Chelsea City Cemetery.
ADAIR
Graveside services for Mary BUNCH ADAIR, age 79, were held Thursday, August
18, 1977 at Chuculate Cemetery, Stilwell, Okla., with Bro. Johnny GOODRICH
officiating.
She was a full-blood Cherokee, born February 24, 1898 near Stilwell, where
she lived all her life. Her parents were Charley BUNCH and Nannie LIVERS
BUNCH.
In 1918 she was united in marriage to Stan Watie ADAIR, who preceded her
in death July 17, 1954. Of this marriage eight children were born, Watie
Jr., Myrtle, and Joe ADAIR preceded her in death. Surviving children are:
Samuel ADAIR, Weatherford, Texas, Sadie SPRINGWATER, Stilwell, Virginia HODGE,
Welling, Sue SAUL, Longview, Texas, and Billy G. ADAIR, Santa Clara, Calif.;
29 grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two brothers, Jim and Sam BUNCH
of Stilwell; two sisters, Adeline DOUBLEHEAD, and Sarah KILLER, also of Stilwell.
