Nellie Pauline McDaniel

Former Seminole resident Nellie McDaniel, 95, passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, in Everett, Wash.
She was born Dec. 6, 1911, to Thomas Bryan and Etta Nellie (McElroy) Carey in Wyatt, Mo.

She married her husband of 57 years, Lowell E. McDaniel in Sapulpa. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1986.

She was a Nanny for the David Boren family for many years as well as other families in the Seminole and Shawnee area. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole.

Also preceding her in death were her son, L.E. McDaniel; one brother, two sisters, one granddaughter and two nephews.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Barbara McDaniel of Bothell, Wash.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Nellie to Providence Hospice and Homecare of Snohomish County, 2731 Wetmore Avenue, Suite 500, Everett, Washington 98201.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. A reception will be held following the service at Omalee's, 206 N. Main in Seminole. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. At South Height Cemetery, Sapulpa.

Howard Ray King

Eufaula resident Howard Ray King, 79, passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, at the Muskogee Regional Medical Center.
Howard was born Aug. 23, 1927, to Calvin Homer and Margariette Leona (Hunt) King, in Shamrock, Okla.

He graduated from high school and later attended OSU-Okmulgee. In 1945, Howard enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force.

On Aug. 8, 1947, he married Iva Jeanne Daley in Oklahoma City. They were happily married for 59 years.

Howard worked as an electronics technician. He was a ham radio operator for 40 years. He loved to fish. He always felt his greatest achievements were his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Carl and Herbert King; and sister Geraldyne Likens.

Survivors include his wife, Iva Jeanne of the home; daughter, Beverly Thackray and husband, Doug lee of Utah; brother, Bennie (Pepper) King and wife, Marylou of Shawnee; sisters, Anita Goodman and husband, Robert of Sapulpa, Pat Burke of Odessa, Texas; sisters-in-law, LaVerne King of Odessa, Opal King of Midwest City; three grandchildren, Roger and Mickelle Thackeray, BJ and Tia Johnstun and Tracy, and Jason Stephenson; two great grandchildren, Isabella Stephenson and Olivia Johnstun; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Kelley Memorial Chapel of Hunn, Black & Merritt Funeral Home, 401 N. Main, Eufaula.

Eva J. McCullar

Tecumseh resident Eva J. "Meme" McCullar, 77, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, in Shawnee.
She was born June 23, 1929, in Coal, Okla., to Jess and Linda (Brown) Pullen. She attended Prairie Valley.

On April 6, 1946, she married Lin McCullar in Meeker. He preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 1991.

She and her husband made their home in Shawnee. In 1979, they moved to Tecumseh. They owned the Original Seamless Concrete Storm Cellar, established in 1948.

She was a homemaker. "Meme" was a very special grandmother to her grandsons, and loved her new great-granddaughter, Poppy. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, attending church, and working in the garden. She devoted her life to her family.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Renita Lynn McCullar in 1996; her parents; three sisters, Ruby Queen, Elizabeth Bickerstaff and Valera Aylor; and one brother, James C. Pullen.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ed Abel of Shawnee; grandsons and their wives, Rod and Allison Robinson of Tecumseh, Lang Bartmess of Tecumseh and Jesse and Katie Abel of Plano, Texas; granddaughter, Laura Rodriquez and her husband, Darryll, of Amarillo, Texas; great-grandchildren; Poplyn Hope Robinson, Kierston Rodriquez and Ayden Rodriquez.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Curt Bartmess officating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Garry Earle Ryan

Former Shawnee resident Garry Earle Ryan died Saturday, Feb. 17.
He was born Feb. 19, 1934, in St. Joseph, Mo., to Nelson H. And Vida (Tate) Ryan.

Garry spent his early childhood living in many parts of the United States as a member of an Air Force family. In 1946, his family settled in Shawnee where he graduated high school in 1952 and then attended Oklahoma A&M, Oklahoma Baptist Univerty and The University of Oklahoma.

Garry served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957 and was an active reservist until 1965.

In 1958, he married Carol Ridenour and five children were born of that marriage.

He was a 42 year employee of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and a longtime member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Shawnee. He was a certified Track and Field official for many years and enjoyed quail and dove hunting.

He is survived by his children, Garry II, Karra Sipes, Paula Sendall, Sharra Wilson and Marla (Jeanie) Padron; grandchildren, Amy Cruz and Amanda Parker, Anouchka and Landry Ambouroue, Lexi Sendall, and Carlee and Alex Padron; and great-grandson, Caden Cruz.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. To 8 p.m. Today at Hibbs Funeral Home in Choctaw.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Cemetery, Shawnee.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at Heartland Hospice of Norman or a favorite charity.

Weleetka area resident the Rev. Havner L. Reid died Monday, Feb. 26, in Shawnee at the age of 84.
Service will be 2 p.m. Today at the First Freewill Baptist Church in Weleetka with the Rev. Cecil Reid and the Rev. Havner L. Reid Jr. Officiating. Burial will be in the Likowski Cemetery under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home.

Kirby Diane Griner

Lifetime Shawnee resident Mrs. Kirby Griner, 67, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 28, after a long courageous battle with lung cancer.
She was born Kirby Diane Schweizerhof, the third child of eight, to William and Nina Schweizerhof on Feb. 13, 1940, in Shawnee. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1958.

On Dec. 25, 1958, she married Mr. Dave Griner.

Kirby was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. She worked as a medical records clerk at Mission Hill Hospital. She also worked 18 years for OG&E as an engineering secretary, retiring in 1995. She then worked for Dr. Scott Stewart and Dr. David Hadley as a medical transcriptionist.

Kirby loved art in all forms. She showed her talents by expressing herself in oil painting, acrylics, watercolor, pastels, throwing pottery, stained glass, floral arranging, calligraphy, artistic furniture painting and interior design.

Kirby also loved traveling with her husband, Dave, as well as "doing lunch" with her many friends and sisters.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mr. And Mrs. Al Griner; two brothers, Jim Schweizerhof, Jeff Schweizerhof and one sister, Kerri Schweizerhof.

Kirby is survived by her husband, Dave Griner; her beloved poodle, Christopher; one brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Reba Schweizerhof of Norman; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Charles Phillips of Shawnee, Karen and Ron Cox of Oklahoma City and Mary and Pat Hathcock of Shawnee; many nieces and nephews and a host of very good friends.

A special "Thank You" to Angelic Hospice for the wonderful job they did taking care of all of us during this most difficult time in our lives.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Chapel in Tecumseh with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park, Shawnee.

Memorials may be made to Liberty Baptist Church of Shawnee, Israel Missions or the Oklahoma Medical Research for Cancer.


James Justin Collins

Shawnee resident James Justin Collins, 30, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, in Fort Smith, Ark
He was born Oct. 3, 1976, to Thomas and Joy (Posey) Collins in Shawnee. He attended Shawnee High School.

He loved to work outside, but most of all, he loved spending time with his children.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Belle Ancell; grandparents, W.P. Collins, Edna Collins, Carl and Emily Posey; uncles, James, Mike and Bill Posey and Glen Collins; aunt, Betty Spillars.

Survivors include his wife, Macie Collins of the home; two daughters, Mariah and Jaycie Collins; two sons, Dalton and T.J. Kathryn Owens Quinn

Longtime resident of White Settlement, Texas, Kathryn "Granny" Owens Quinn passed away Tuesday, Feb. 27, after a long illness.
Mrs. Quinn was born April 23, 1926, in Shawnee. She was the youngest of 12 children of Reuben Augustus and Mary Owens.

On Nov. 24, 1945, she married Paul L. Quinn and they established residence in Shawnee.

In 1960, they moved to Oklahoma City where she was employed by Western Electric. She and Paul moved to Norman in 1964. In 1966 they moved toWhite Settlement when she went to work for General Dynamics, now Lockheed, retiring in 1991.

Kathryn enjoyed dancing, bowling and any competitive activity, and was an avid Oklahoma Sooners football fan. She had a love of nature and gardening, making chocolate gravy and cookie trees. Kathryn enjoyed traveling and in recent years became interested in genealogy. She was especially proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church.

Ms. Quinn was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Quinn of White Settlement; sons, Dan and his wife, Marrae, of Norman, and Paul of Oklahoma City; loving and devoted daughter, Dianne and her husband, Mick, of White Settlement; granddaughters, Katy and her husband, Michael Powers, and Patty and her husband, Kelly Thomason, all of Norman; grandson, Shad of Oklahoma City; great-grandchildren, Peyton, Sophie, Ella, Cole and Harrison Powers of Norman; sisters, Edna Whited and Violet Marie Crowl and husband, Jack; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service was held Friday at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church under the direction of Greenwood Funeral Home, Fort Worth, Texas.

Barbara J. Sherrill

Tecumseh resident Barbara J. Sherrill, 61, died Monday, March 5, in Midwest City.

Barbara was born March 26, 1945 in Boise, Idaho, to Charles and Betty (Harmon) Scovel. As a young child, she moved to Shawnee and she has been a resident of the Shawnee-Tecumseh area since. She was a graduate of Shawnee High School.

On November 1, 1963, she married Larry Sherrill in Shawnee.

Barbara served 42 years in Shawnee hospitals. She worked 10 years in the Mission Hill Medical Records Department. She started with Shawnee Regional in 1974 in medical records. In 1989, she became the new Cancer Center's Cancer Tumor Registrar. She was an active member of the National Cancer Registrar Association and the Oklahoma Tumor Registrar Associations. She was a annual supporter of Relay for Life. Barbara enjoyed her work and considered it an avenue of personal ministry and evangelism. To share her faith and be instrumental in a changed life brought her great joy. She and her husband were charter members of Evangelistic Center Church. Throughout her life she participated in and supported many outreaches, ministries and missions.

"Nanny" enjoyed spending time with her family at their lake cabin on Lake Texoma. She also enjoyed shopping, especially with her grandchildren, and taking cruises with her husband. Her family was the focal point of her life.

She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Scovel.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Larry Sherrill of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Aleisa Sherrill of Tecumseh; daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Brad Cantrell of Roff, Okla.; her mother, Betty Scovel of Tecumseh; brother and sister-in-law, David and Joannie Scovel of Tecumseh; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Charley Ballou of Tecumseh; seven grandchildren, Stefnie, Travis, Joeci and Blaedn Sherrill and Laci, Brogan and Rylan Cantrell; and many other relatives and friends.

Jacob "Jake" Lempges

McLoud resident Jacob "Jake" Lempges, 94, died Monday, March 5, in a local nursing home.
Jake was born July 10, 1912, in McLoud to Jacob Lempges and Josephine (Wozniak).

He married Edna Scheidt.

Jake was a farmer and a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; sisters, Lucia Hull, Millie Mason, Marie Beaver; brothers, Frank Lempges, and Steve Lempges; grandson, Jacob Todd Sparks; great-granddaughter, Brittney Sparks.

Survivors include two daughters, Sylvia Godwin and husband, Gary, of McLoud and Reta Sparks and husband, Kenny, of McLoud; grandchildren, Lori Long and husband, Bobby, Traci Murphy and husband, Jay, Stephanie Brown and husband, Josh, Melanie Sparks and Jason Sparks; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Morgan and Dalton Long, Sheridan, Jordan and Ryland Murphy, Joshua, Chloee and Jacob Brown and Brooklyn Sparks; in-laws, Ed and Grace Brzozwski, Opal Wright and Frank Scheidt; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Jack Roselius

Macomb resident Jack Roselius died Monday, March 5, in Norman at the age of 85.
Jack was born Aug. 18, 1921, in McLean, Texas, to Charles Lou and Viola Mae (Kime) Roselius.

He attended Macomb schools and was a lifelong resident of Macomb. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II in Japan.

On June 18, 1947, he married Bette Cooper in Norman.

A retired postal carrier, Jack was also a self-employed rancher. He was a member of the Masons, the Methodist Church and the Macomb Fire Department.

He is preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Twana "Tottie" Gay and Bobbie Jo Stapp; and one brother, Dub Roselius.

He is surved by four sons and three daughters-in-lw, Larry and Marilyn Roselius of Moore, Charles "Mouse" Roselius of Norman, Connie and Susie Roselius of Moore, Bobby and Sue Roselius of Choctaw; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many extended family and friends.

Visitation will begin 4 p.m. Today at Cooper Funeral Home.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mark Elam of Midwest Community Nazarene Church officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie View Cemetery.

Tulsa resident Mabel Williams Rinks died at the age of 87.

Rickie R. Vincent

Shawnee resident Rickie R. Vincent, 25, died Monday, Mar. 5, at an Oklahoma City Hospital.
He as born June 10, 1981, to Randy and Mary Diane (Hendershot) Vincent in Shawnee.

He attended Shawnee High School and graduated from East Central University.

On May 20, 2006, he married Elizabeth Langwell.

He worked as a Contracting Specialist at Tinker Air Force Base.

He was a member of the Shawnee Christian Church, and Bowfish USA. He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for bowfishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ed and Mary Vincent.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Vincent of the home; parents, Randy and Diane Vincent of Shawnee; sister, Schyla Howe and her husband, Kevin of Moore; grandparents, Ed and Mary Lou Hendershot of Dale; aunts and uncles, Rick and Roxane Vincent of Shawnee, Vicki and Robert Files of Stigler, Tracy and Tommy Nicholson of Edmond, Kelly and Mark Elliston of North Carolina; cousins, Courtney, Ben, and Harley Goliwas, Jake Vincent, Alex Meador, Shelby and Brandon Nicholson, Luke and Logan Elliston.

Viewing will be at Walker Funeral Home from 8 a.m. Until 8 p.m. Wednesday, and 8 a.m. Until 11 a.m. On Thursday. There will be a closed casket service.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday outside of the Shawnee Home Builders Cabin with John Mayhue officiating. Burial will follow at the Dale Cemetery.

Harold John Wilson

Norman resident Harold John "Bud" Wilson, 77, passed away Tuesday, March 6.
He was born Oct. 6, 1929 in Amarillo, Texas to James Monroe and Matilda Pearl (Lofgren) Wilson.

Bud worked construction as a bricklayer. He liked fishing, hunting, watching auto racing and was an avid reader. He also enjoyed bird watching and would build bird houses from his woodworking shop. However, he especially enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. He was a loving companion, father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Howard, Henry, Harvey and Horace; sister, Helen; and his wife of 20 years, Willa.

He leaves wonderful memories with his very special companion, Virginia Dingler; his daughters, Betty J. Norton, and Deborah K. Bourbonnais and husband Larry; grandchildren, Heather R. Taron, Stephen R. Taron and wife Brooke, Jason Wilson Bourbonnais, Melissa K. Bourbonnais; great-granddaughter, Addison Taron; many nieces, nephews, friends and Virginia's children, Greg White and wife Danita, and Cheryl Mathis and husband Gary; and her grandson, Michael Rountree.

A memorial graveside service to celebrate Bud's life will be 2 p.m. Friday at Hopewell (Bethel) Cemetery on Hardesty Road, across from Bethel United Methodist Church in Shawnee, OK. A memorial celebration will follow the graveside service at the Homebuilder Association Cabin at Shawnee Lake. The family encourages all of Bud's family, friends and co-workers to join the family as they celebrate his life.

Seth Patterson Jr.

Shawnee resident Seth Patterson Jr., 59, died Monday, March 5, at his residence.

He was born December 23, 1947, in Dallas, Texas to Seth Patterson Sr. And Dorothy (Carrol).

He worked as a welder.

Preceding him death were his parents, wife, and one daughter, Jennilu Patterson.

Survivors include three children, Stacy Patterson and wife Fouzie of Shawnee, Amanda Patterson of Grapevine, Texas, Brandy Patterson of Grapevine, Texas; three grandchildren: Summer, Nicholas, and Dalton; one great-grandchild, Scottland; one brother, Richard Patterson of Dallas, Texas.

The cremation is being handled by Walker Funeral Service. No services are scheduled at this time.


Mary Anna Sturgis (nee Stickles)

Chandler Nursing Center resident Mary Anna Sturgis (nee Stickles), 79, died Wednesday, March 7.
She was born October 13, 1927, in Daviess County Indiana to Sherman C and Dewey (Grubbs) Stickles.

She was a 1945 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School and of Central Business College in Indianapolis. With her beloved husband of 53 years, Charles M. Sturgis, who died in 2001, she lived for many, many years, near Washington High School campus. She was a homemaker and an active volunteer, serving especially the Indianapolis Public School #50 (Hawthorne School) Parent-Teacher Assn., as President, and Fairfax Christian Church of Indianapolis in the choir, as an accompanist, and with the Benevolence Committee. Mary was known for her sewing and crafting, and artistically crocheted "Gramma Blankies". She lived in retirement in Carol Stream, Ill., and then at the Chandler Nursing Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Charles M. Sturgis, and one grandchild.

Survivors include her sister, Wilma S. Goode of Bedford, Ind. And Ada S. Shamblin of Chandler; daughters, Charlene McElhiney of Chandler and Bonita (Kenneth) Lamb of Brandon, Miss; grandchild, David McElhiney of Chicago, Ill., Daniel McElhiney of Elgin, Ill., Jeffrey (Elizabeth) McElhiney of Urbana, Ill., and Christina (Garret) Salassi of Clinton, Miss.; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Logan, and Kendall Salassi of Clinton, Miss.; nieces and nephews, Carol (Carl) Herndon of Chandler, Ruth (Juan) Medina of Logan, Ala., James Goode of Crane, Ind., Sharon Thompson of Crane, Ind., Patty (Timothy) Rocco of Bedford, Ind.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Parks Brothers Chapel in Chandler.

John C. Reynolds

Former Shawnee resident John C. Reynolds, currently of Ardmore, died Tuesday, March 6, in Ardmore at the age of 80.
He was born April 5, 1926, in Vamoosa, Okla., to Benjamin and Ora (White) Reynolds.

John was married to Jean (Lincicome) Reynolds for 43 years before she went to be with the Lord in August 1992.

He was in the U.S. Navy and then worked at Tinker Air Force Base in the civil service until he retired at the age of 55.

Proceding him in death were his wife and his parents.

Survivors include two children and their spouses, Jenny and Howard Bryson of Ardmore and Jimmy and Glenna Reynolds of Amarillo, Texas; many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. To 8 p.m. At Gaskill Funeral Chapel.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m Saturday at Fairview Cemetery with Dr. Ed Fox officiating.

Bill Mendenhall

Chandler resident Bill Mendenhall,73, departed this life on Wednesday, Mar. 7, at his home in Chandler.

He was born Jan. 8, 1934, in Colcord, Okla., to Burlie Lee and Ruth (Creed) Mendenhall.

Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He married Winifred Hanke on March 3, 1956, in Oklahoma City.

He was a graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma. Bill worked as an Oklahoma Highway Patrolman for 29 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Winnie of the home; daughters, Jerri Toumbs and Deborah Currid both of Chandler; brothers, Ralph Mendenhall of Tennessee and Carl Wilbanks of Eufaula; sister, Wanda Coffee of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Service will be p.m. At Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Chandler, Oklahoma, with the Rev. Leon Williams officiating. Burial will follow at New Zion in Chandler.


Ricky Dean Nail

Tecumseh resident Ricky Dean Nail, 54, died Friday, March 9, at Carl Albert Indian Health Facilities.
He was born Jan. 30, 1953, in Shawnee to Austin Coy and Pearl Nail. He attended Muskogee College and was an alumni of Shawnee High School.

Survivors include his two daughters, Catherine Gooch and Nicole Nail; son, Richard Garcia; four grandsons; two granddaughters; as well as two adopted sons, Alf Williams and Mike McCray.

Memorial will be a private service for immediate family and close friends, those invited will be contacted when arrangements are made under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

George "Henry" Hunt

Bethel Acres resident George "Henry" Hunt, 79, died Friday, March 9, at his home.

He was born Nov. 17, 1927, Lexington, Okla., the 18th child of 20 brothers, sisters, half-brothers and half-sisters, born to George Hunt, Sr. and Edith (Newville) Hunt.

Born east of Lexington, he was reared in Bethel Acres, where he graduated as Salutatorian of Bethel High School.

On September 15, 1948 he married Doris Killman in Gainesville, Texas. Following their marriage, they lived in Midwest City, moving back to Bethel in 1979, where they built their home on the family homestead, established in 1947, and have lived there since.

He worked as a supervisor for Townley's Dairy, as well as working for a time with Jordan Construction. He also worked for General Motors, from which he retired. He was a Deacon at Emmanuel Baptist Church in McLoud, as well as being a member of Shawnee Composite Lodge #107 of Shawnee, a 32nd degree Mason of Guthrie Scottish Rite, and a India Shriner. He enjoyed water skiing when he was younger, gardening, cutting wood, and the outdoors. He was a city councilman for the city of Bethel Acres, going on to serve as Mayor. He served on the Bethel School Board until just last month.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Hunt of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, DeCarla and Joseph Powers of Bethel Acres, Sheila and Jimmy Jordan of Tecumseh, Sonya and Richard Wood of Bethel Acres; four grandchildren, Ryan Deatherage, Chad Deatherage, Jennifer Roberson, and John Jordan; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maudie Cox of Tecumseh and Mary Henderson of Schertz, Texas; numerous friends and family.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. To 6 p.m. Sunday at Cooper Funeral Home.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Donnie Bond and the Rev. Glen Pence officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

The family has designated the Emmanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, McLoud, as appropriate for memorials.

Vera F. Cline

Shawnee resident Vera F. Cline, 87, died Saturday, March 10, at a local nursing home.

She was born Feb. 18, 1920, in Wichita, Kan., to Edmund H. Smith and Nora Hazel (Elliott) Smith.

Vera attended Shawnee schools and graduated from high school in 1937. She married Earl Cline in September 1938.

She was part of Oak Park Church of God, Rebekah Lodge and Murrow Chapter of the Eastern Star. A past Grand Matriarch of Oklahoma Grand Encampment Auxiliary and Past Worthy Matron 5 times. She lived in Shawnee until after "World War ll", moving to Wichita, Kan. In 1952 she moved to Los Angeles, Calif., working for Douglas Aircraft. She married Edward Cortez in 1955 and returned to Shawnee.

Preceding her in death were her parents, both husbands, her son, Gary Cline, and a grandson, Chris.

Survivors include her two daughters and spouses, Glenda and Gaylord Connor of Denton, Texas and Gayle and Dan Poole of Wichita, Kan.; grandsons and spouses, Kip and LuAnn Connor, Michael and Allison Wheat, Aaron and Kathy Cline, Chad Thomas and wife, Michelle; granddaughter and spouses, Kim and David Darrough, Christy and J.D. Kennedy, Kelli Daggett, Savannah Cline; 18 great-grandchildren; and her dear friend Melba Boston and Family.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Leroy Kerbo officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Carlos Newton Sisson

Tecumseh resident Carlos Newton "Cisco" Sisson died Friday, March 9, in a local hospital at the age of 83.
He was born May 25, 1923, in Egypt, Okla., to Ivy L. And Maranda P. (Kinsey) Sisson.

He went through 8th grade and because of the Depression, he had to quite school and support his family. He went back and earned his GED in 1969.

On May 28, 1949, he married Sue Emma Allred.

He served in the U.S. Army signal corps during World War II and in Japan in 1946.

He worked as an aircraft engine inspector for 28 years at Tinker Air Force Base. After retirement, he sold vegetables and fruits from his garden.

He was a member of University Baptist Church, NARFE, American Legion and NRA. He was a man of many talents such as, a farmer, a carpenter, an electrician, a mechanic, and a plumber. He had a passion for flowers and all kinds of trees. He never met a stranger.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his three children, Nita Coker and her husband, Les, Shawnee, Michael Sisson and his wife, Jackie, Shawnee, and Pattie Sisson of Del City; grandchildren, Scott Coker, Julie Dyke, Kenny Sisson, Michelle Gillham and Maranda Perry; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Bevin, Natalie, Rhys, Ethan and Gabriel; sister, Teresa Mowery of Pasadena, Texas; brother, Louie Sisson of Lincoln, Calif.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Larry Sparks officiating.


Tyler Shane Thomason

Tyler Shane Thomason, 7, of Shawnee, died Friday, March 9, in Shawnee.
He was born Jan. 28, 2000 to Shane Thomason and Nicole Wright in Shawnee.

He attended Jefferson Elementary in Shawnee, where he was in the 1st grade and was on the Teachers Honor Roll. He enjoyed riding his bike, church, his friends, toy cars and video games. He attended Sharon Baptist Church, where enjoyed being part of the church family.

McLoud resident Tommi Bierd died Friday, March 9, at the age of 58.
She was born Sept. 14, 1948, in Purcell Okla.

Tommi was the Personnel Director for the City of Shawnee.

She enjoyed barrel racing, her dogs and cats, and spending time with her family.
