Bryce J. O'Guinn

Shawnee resident Bryce J. O'Guinn, 31, died Friday, Oct. 13, in Shawnee.
He was born Feb. 10, 1975, in Wewoka to Melvin and Rosetta (Toles) O'Guinn

Bryce attended Washington Elementary, Shawnee Junior High and Shawnee High School.

On Feb. 6, 1997, he married Serreta A. Napoleon in Shawnee.

He was a maintenance tech for the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. He joined St. John Baptist Church in 2004.

Bryce loved working on cars and putting models together with his sons.

Preceding him in death were his grandfather, Olean O'Guinn and his grandmother, Laura Phillips.

Survivors include his wife, Serreta A. O'Guinn; two sons, Diontre' K. O'Guinn and Anthony K. O'Guinn; parents, Melvin and Rosetta O'Guinn; sister, Natika O'Guinn and her son, Ta'Sean Hishaw, all of Shawnee; brother, James Toles of Wewoka; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Maxine Napoleon; nephews, Joshua Nickolas and Braden Napoleon, all of Brooksville; niece, Courtney Toles of Wewoka; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bobby and Kay Napoleon of Shawnee; grandmother, Thirkield O'Guinn of Wewoka; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. L.E. Oliver officiating.

Burial will be at Westwood Cemetery.

Jo Ann Melton

Longtime Chandler resident Jo Ann Melton, 77, departed this life Sunday, Oct. 15, at her home.
She was born Oct. 10, 1929, in Chander to Joe and Mabel (Hill) Rushing.

Jo Ann graduated from Chandler High School in 1947. On June 10, 1956, she married L.P. "Junior" Melton in Depew, Okla.

She was the Lincoln Country Court Clerk for many years.

Jo Ann was very active in the community. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Patcher Club, Rainbows, Granny's Trunk Antiques, Court Clerk Association and Chandler First Christian Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Shirley Melton; and one brother, John Rushing.

Survivors include husband, L.P. "Junior," of the home; son, Johnny Melton of Chandler; daughter, Ronda Johns of Kendrick; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Service will be 2:30 p.m. today at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel, Chandler, with the Rev. Fred Rider officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler.

Jerry Wayne Dixson

Asher resident Jerry Wayne Dixson passed away Saturday, Oct. 14, in Asher at the age of 59 years, 10 months and 9 days.
He was born Dec. 5, 1946, in Ada to Catherine (Odell) and Elbert Dixson.

He graduated from Asher High School and attended East Central University.

Jerry married Shirley Farris in Ada on Dec. 12, 1962.

He was a cattle ranch owner and lived his life in the Asher area. He was a member of the Pottawatomie County Oklahoma Farm Bureau Board and Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association.

Jerry was an avid supporter of and donor to the Asher schools athletics, 4-H, FFA and community.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, water activities, baseball, rodeos, car races and resting at the lake home.

Jerry loved his family and friends very much.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elbert Dixson.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Dixson, of the home; two sons, DeWayne Dixson and Darin Dixson; mother, Catherine Dixson, all of Asher; five grandchildren, Keevin, Dalton, Derrick, Shelby and Katheryn.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, Asher, with the Rev. Dwayne Johnson officiating.

Burial will be at Vista Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Teddy Clark, Murl Bowen, Lee Graham, Justin Graham, Bryan Richards, Leroy Odell, Eddie Ball,

Honorary pallbearers include Donnie Wright, Darl Fowler, Jerry Lenn Richards, Eddy Keylon and Elson Dickson.

Shawnee resident Nena "Thelma" Becktold, 81, died Monday, Oct. 16, of natural causes.

Thelma Becktold

Shawnee resident Thelma Becktold, 81, died Monday, Oct. 16, in Shawnee.
She was born Sept 11, 1925, in Rule, Texas, to Annett and Lafe Williams. She was one of ten children.

Thelma lived her childhood in Rule where she met her husband, Dave Becktold. They were married Sept 21, 1941. They lived in Rule until 1948 when they moved to Lubbock, Texas.

The family lived in Lubbock until 1957 when Dave was transferred to Oklahoma City. They moved to the Shawnee area when Dave retired in 1977.

Thelma worked at various places as a cook. However, her greatest thrill was babysitting. Over the years she helped raise many young children, including her own brothers and sisters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave in 1989; and her daughter, Betty Adams, in 2003.

Survivors include her son, A.D. Becktold and his wife, Carlotta, of Shawnee; one daughter, Kattie Cook of Shawnee; four grandchildren, Scott Becktold of Oklahoma City, Dixie Becktold of Yukon, David Adams and wife, Johnnie, of Harrah and Andre Cook of Oklahoma City; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today

Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.


Doyle J. Boatwright 

McLoud resident Doyle J. Boatwright, 79, died Saturday, Oct. 14, at Midwest City Regional Hospital.
He was born Feb. 28, 1927, Dallas, Texas, to Omar and Louise (McGuffin) Boatwright.

He graduated from Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth, Texas. He also attended Texas Christian University.

Doyle was married to Patricia A. Williams in 1950.

He was an aerospace engineer, a charter member of the Elks Lodge in California, a member of the Order of Demolay, ZYKO Fraternity and the Prison Fellowship Ministry.

He enjoyed traveling, gold prospecting, hunting, coin collecting, bowling, reading, and, most of all, family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia (Williams) Boatwright of the home; two children, Donn Bay and Irene Boatwright of McLoud and Denise Jene and Delbert Grimes of McLoud; one grandchild, Alaina Donn (Grimes) and Trevor Hall of Oklahoma City; and one great-grandchild, Alexander Lloyd Hall.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Resthaven Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernest Graham and Chaplain Don Duncan, Prison Fellowship Ministries, officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

The Boatwright and Grimes families would like to thank Cindy, Jamie and Doug of Midwest Home Health Services and the fourth floor nursing staff at Midwest Regional Hospital for their tender hands and loving spirit. You were an enormous comfort that will be treasured forever


Paul Bruton

Tecumseh resident Paul Bruton, 56, died Sunday, Oct. 15, in Oklahoma City.
He was born June 13, 1950, in Ada to Lum and Wanda (Caruthers) Bruton.

Paul was reared in Sasakwa and lived in Konawa during high school. He graduated from Konawa High School in 1968 and had resided in Tecumseh since 1980.

On May 5, 1980, he married Doris Putman in Shawnee.

He worked as a machinist with Barton Valve and The Wood Group since 1979. He was a member of the Oklahoma Auctioneers Association.

Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, and horse racing.

He was preceded him in death by his father; one brother, James Bruton and one daughter, Dawnette Bruton.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Bruton of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Danny Bruton and his fiance`, Shannon Wynn, both of Broken Arrow, John and Ali Bruton of Herndon, Virginia, and Vaughn and Shana Hall of Shawnee; grandchildren, Shyanne Bruton, Dakota Bruton, Tripp Hall, Tyler Bruton and Madeline Bruton; mother, Wanda Lee Bruton of Tecumseh; numerous extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Kevin Duck officiating. Burial will be at Rosedale Cemetery.

Doyle Winston Rose

Stigler resident Doyle Winston Rose departed this life and stepped into his eternal home on Monday, Oct. 16, in Tulsa at the age of 71.
He was born Feb. 10, 1935, in Seminole County to Cleatus and "Cozy" (Daniels) Rose.

In 1988 he married LaVerne Hembree.

Doyle took great pride in his many accomplishments and careers throughout his life. He grew up in Tecumseh and graduated from Tecumseh High School. Doyle was very much the athlete. After high school, he spent several years in the Army Reserves and reached the rank of Sergeant First Class.

His careers included time at Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company in Shawnee and Chandler, Sun Oil Company in Tulsa and KRMG Radio in Tulsa, but his career in the fishing tournament industry was where he really made a name for himself. He was recently nominated for the National Fishing Hall of Fame. In the 1960s, Doyle served as co-chairman of the Oklahoma Wildlife Federation wth radio personality Vic Bastien. Together they created a new fishing tournament concept that made history, Doyle developed the multi-regional, low-entry-fee bass tournament. Today, it is the most successful tournament format in America. But when Doyle Rose devised the plan for his Poor Boy Bass Association in the early 1970s, it was revolutionary. From 1972 to 1992, he served as president of the Poor Boy Bass Association. After retirement, Doyle and LaVerne moved to Texas and lived for several years on Toledo Bend where they were able to fish and enjoy retirement. Most recently they have lived near Lake Eufaula.

Doyle was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, LaVerne Hembree of the home; two daughters, Rene' (Rose) Andrews of Mannford and Melissa Hembree of Okemah; two sons, Doyle W. Rose II of Mannford and Michael Hembree of Ada; grandchildren, Courtney Andrews, Christopher Andrews, Caitlin Andrews, Natasha Rose, Melody Rose, Tristan Rose, Lane Williams, Payden Williams and Jacie Hembree; sister and brother-in-law, Retha Mae and Edd Barnes of Tecumseh; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends and family that will miss him very much.

The family will receive visitors from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m today at Cooper Funeral Home.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Randy Moore of Temple Baptist officiating. Burial will be at Little Cemetery.

Clarence William Mosman

Clarence William Mosman, 84, passed into the legacy of "The Greatest Generation" on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006. He was a native Texan and one of 14 children from a farming family during the Great Depression of the 1930s.
Clarence served the country he loved in the North Atlantic and Pacific Theaters during World War II as a Chief Petty Officer aboard the aircraft carrier CVE-31 USS Prince William. His name is engraved in the World War II Memorial at Resthaven Cemetery east of Shawnee.

Upon returning from the war, he married Faye Marie Cannon of Wanette on April 22, 1946. They had three children together. During the next 15 years, the young family border hopped between Texas and Oklahoma.

In 1961 they settled in Shawnee. Clarence established a career in meat cutting and market management. After retiring in 1987 he worked part time, until the age of 82, for Pratt Foods and other meat markets. He worked for Pratt Foods in Oklahoma for more than 40 years and was one of the original drivers of the Shawnee Medical Center Clinic shuttle.

Clarence was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. His friends and fellow Knights will testify he always had a good joke to share and that their breakfast attendance was always better when he made the biscuits. He liked vintage cars and had a few of his own through the years. He also enjoyed Marty Robbins and Floyd Cramer music and always had time for a good John Wayne or Jimmy Stewart western.

In addition to his wife, Faye Marie, of 60 years he is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Kathy Mosman and their children Lydia and Jess of Burlington, Vt.; Brad and Beverly Mosman and their children, Rachel, Sarah, Joel and Hannah of Shawnee; one daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Walter Seyffert of Shawnee; three sisters and one brother, Delores, Aleene, Annabelle and Raymond all of Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Paul and Mary Elizabeth Mosman formerly of Gainesville, Texas; nine brothers and sisters.

A Rosary will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday. October 21, at St. Benedict Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

He was idolized by his grandchildren and was one of a kind. He is Loved beyond measure. We'll see you soon, Daddy.


J. Wendell Scott

Longtime Seminole resident J. Wendell Scott, 86, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 18.
He was born July 4, 1920, in Rattan, Okla., to Carl William and Ida Mae (Brinlee) Scott.

He married Aly'ce M. Elisabeth Green on June 22, 1961, in Shawnee. They were married for 45 years.

J. Wendell, a longtime Seminole area rancher, ran a dairy farm for many years. He owned and operated a Seminole packing company with his brother until 1963.

J. Wendell served during World War II in the U.S. Army, where he was a Tech 5 in the 879th ordinance company. While there he received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, APT Ribbon and Meritorius Unit Award.

He was former president for the Seminole Roundup Club, a Strothers school board member for 12 years, a 32 degree Mason and a lifelong member of the Seminole Masonic Lodge, where he received his 50 year pin.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, J.C. Scott.

Survivors include his wife, Aly'ce, of the home; daughters and son-in-law, Laura Susan (Scott) and Kevin Kincade of Seminole and Sheri S. Criswell of Oklahoma City; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Penny Veitenheimer of Cromwell; sister and brother-in-law, Lueetta (Scott) and Amel Darr of Seminole; seven grandchildren, Kendell Kincade, Khanaa Kincade, Khara Elixabeth Suzanne Criswell, Glendon Gouker, Kyle Gouker, Bobbie Vincent and Bill Wright; six great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends including a very special niece Theresa Patterson of Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Terry Newell officiating.


Lloyd E. Penson

Shawnee resident Lloyd E. Penson, 76, died Wednesday Oct. 18, in Shawnee.
He was born September 15, 1930, in Gotebo to Theodore and Beulah Blue-Penson.

On July 21, 1950, he married Wanda June Matthews in Shawnee.

Lloyd worked as a sheet metal craftsman and had owned Shawnee Sheet Metal Company for 38 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Survivors include his special friend, Ann Sellers of Shawnee; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Vickie Penson, Randy and brenda Penson, both of Shawnee, and Dennis and Elaine Penson of Oklahoma City; two brothers and sisters-in-law James and Mary Lee Penson of Eureka Springs, Ark., Bob and Mary Ann Penson of Mesa, Arz.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery Pavillion with the Rev. J.C. Farrand officiating.

Clara (Nan) Wright

Hobbs, N.M., resident Clara (Nan) Wright , 88, died Thursday, Oct. 19, at her residence.
Mrs. Wright was born August 8, 1918, in Maud to Fred and Pheba Guinn Roberts.

In 1978 she married Jack Wright in Las Vegas, Nev.

For many years Clara owned and operated Clara's Beauty Academy, where many of her students have continued to carry on her teachings.

Mrs. Wright enjoyed calligraphy, oil painting, camping and traveling, but her greatest enjoyment was her greatgrandchildren.

She was a member of the local and national Cosmetology Association, American Legion and VFW.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and daughter, Sandra.

Survivors include her son-in-law, Ted Ussery; brother, Jesse Roberts of California; grandchildren, Bryan Ussery and his wife, Rhonda, of Hobbs and Jayson Ussery and his wife, Tammy, of Hobbs; and great-grandchildren, Shaye, Jessie, Shyanne and Cordale Ussery of Hobbs.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. today at Griffin Funeral Home Chapel, Hobbs with Pastor Kevin Kellows officiating.

Interment will follow at Prairie Haven Cemetery.

Longtime Seminole resident Theresa Fairman, 60, died Friday Oct. 20, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gary Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery, Seminole County, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.


Larry Joe Cossey  

Burns, Tenn., resident Larry Joe Cossey, 56, peacefully entered into rest on Wednesday, Oct. 18, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Oklahoma City to Gene Cossey and Elsie Marie Northcutt Cossey. Joe was raised in Tribbey.

He was a very supportive and gentle man that dedicated his life to his family, friends and to the music industry. Joe was an accomplished musician and songwriter. His instrument of choise was the electric bass guitar. He has been the bass guitarist for country music artist, Mel McDaniel for the past five years. His music career began in Oklahoma as a band member and singer backing numerous country music artists. He was the recipient of the Oklahoma Country Music Association Bass Player of the Year award. In 1992, Joe moved to Nashville to continue pursuing his career. His love and talent for songwriting awarded him in 1995 first place in the country category of Billboard Magazine's songwriting contest and again in 1998 as a winner of the TNN songwriting contest. He fulfilled a dream by playing on the Grand Ole Opry. The Grand Ole Opry made an incredible and unforgettable impact on Joe and his family for the support he received in his career and during his illness.

He is survived by his wife, Malinda Cossey, Burns, Tenn.; father, Gene Cossey, Tecumseh; daughter, Jacy Cable and her husband, Denson, McAlester; granddaughter, Bren Marie Cable, McAlester; sister, Janis Brooks and her husband, Randy, Wewoka; nieces and nephews, Dr. Stephen and Johnita Walker, Fred and Wendy Argo, all of Wewoka, and Jeff and Jeri Brooks, Oklahoma City; longtime friend, Lyndel East, White Bluff, Tenn.; several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews and loyal friends.

A celebration of life will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Wewoka.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Vanderbilt Oncology Department and Alive Hospice for their care and comfort.

Wendell L. Hardesty

McLoud resident Wendell L. Hardesty, 77, died Thursday, Oct. 19, at his home.

He was born March 4, 1929, in Shawnee to E.E and Zelma Hardesty.

In 1947 he graduated from Shawnee High School and went to Oklahoma A&M and Southeastern Oklahoma College.

He owned Hardesty Plumbing in Shawnee until 1973. From 1973 to 1986 he worked for Cowen Construction in Shawnee as an estimator and Project Manager. He most currently was an estimator for Hardesty Team Co. in Oklahoma City since 1986.

Wendell was a member of the Jaycees, Kiwanis, Shawnee Alumni Association, Shawnee All Sports Association and one of the founders of the Mighty Mite Football Program for children in Shawnee.

He played football in high school and for Oklahoma A&M College. He loved hunting, fishing, golf and sports.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son; Tom Hardesty.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Pamela, and Mike and Paula; grandchildren, Brett and wife, Kristen Hardest, Stefanie, Austin and Chelsea Hardesty, Greg Gilpin; daughter-in-law, Sherilyn Hardesty; brother, Gene and wife, Jane Hardesty; stepson, Lyndon; many nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Walker Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.


Effie Marie Flowers

Effie Marie Flowers, 84, departed this life on Friday, Oct. 20, in Shawnee.

She was born May 22, 1922, in Meeker to William Everett and Lavada (Walker) Johnson. She was a Meeker area resident all her life.

On Oct. 5, 1940, she married John Daniel Flowers.

She was a homemaker and a salesperson for Stanley Home Products and Avon.

Her parents; stepmother, Vernie Johnson who raised Marie from age 11; one brother; and three sisters preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, John Daniel Flowers of the home; sons and daughters-in-laws, John Daniel and Lindy Sue Flowers, Tulsa, Ronald Dean Flowers, Shawnee, Phillip Gene and Elaine Flowers, Meeker; brother and sister-in-law, Clyde and Faye Johnson, Shawnee; sisters, Beulah Waggoner, Edmond, Nona Gallaway and her husband, Mack, Meeker, Edna Flowers, Shawnee, Pauline Flowers, Jones; sisters-in-law, Edith Johnson, Jones, and Jean Steele, Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Kevin and Cheryl Flowers, Dr. Bobby and LeeAnn Flowers, Steve and Sarah Flowers, Pam and Brian Thompson, William and Tarina Flowers, Loren and Sherri Wilson, Lance and Dawn Wilson, and Jennifer and David Ellis; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Ollie (Stice) Johnson

Shawnee resident Ollie (Stice) Johnson, 98, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, in Shawnee.

Ollie was born June 26, 1908, in Macomb to Mose Lee and Nora F. (Hutchinson) Stice.

She attended Hope Schools, where she completed the eighth grade, and earned high marks, Besides driving a team of mules she learned very early how to drive her father's early automobile.

On September 3, 1926, she married a farmer named Donald Oscar Johnson in Macomb. This union produced five girls and five boys. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1973.

Mrs. Johnson was more than just a homemaker. This grand lady was the jack-of-all-trades around the Johnson farmstead. Besides tending to all her children with the same amount of love and affection, she ran the household with distinction and worked alongside her husband and her sons and daughters doing farm work.

She was a member of the Mars Hill Presbyterian Church where she played the organ for over 27 years. She also served as the church secretary and as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was a charter member of the Shawnee High School FFA Mothers Club and a member of Home Demonstration Clubs for over 50 years in Friendship and North Rock Creek communities. She served as Superintendent of the Horticulture Department of the Pottawatomie County Fair for eight years.

She also was preceded in death by three daughters: Ollie Mae Good, Martha Lucille Hendershot, and an infant daughter.

Survivors include her five sons and daughters-in-law: Rufus M. and Liz Johnson of Midwest City, James H. and Ruth Johnson of Shawnee, Donald R. and Saundra Johnson of Shawnee, Joe A. and Sue Johnson of Macomb, Russell E. and Janis Johnson of Lancaster, Texas; two daughters and four sons-in-law, Elsie M. and Terry Burge of Meeker, Stella F. and David Little of Shawnee, Kenneth B. Good of Shawnee, Paul Hendershot of Shawnee; two sisters; Nannie I. Pierce of Lexington and Paralee N. Lewis of Palm Dale, Calif.; 30 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin 1 p.m. today.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mike Craig and the Rev. Max McKee officiating. Burial will be at Mars Hill Cemetery.

Allen Ray Sharp

Lifelong Konawa resident Allen Ray Sharp, 85, died Friday, Oct. 20, at his residence.
He was born on Oct. 6, 1921, in southern Pottawatomie County to Selz Hobert "Buster" & Tina Lena (Curry) Sharp.

He enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served during World War II. He married Luella Marie (Hutton) on Nov. 15, 1941, in Shawnee. They were to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on Nov. 15.

Ray was a farmer all of his life. He served on the board of directors for the ASCS (Soil Conservation), Farm Bureau Board of Directors and was a former state secretary of the Future Farmers of America. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Konawa Masonic Lodge No. 322. He also was a member of the First Baptist Church in Konawa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Anthony Kay Sharp; one grandson, Floyd Ray Sharp and two great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Marie Lowry and Jacob Garrett Lowry.

He is survived by his wife, Luella Sharp of the home; four sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Judith Sharp of Harrah, Max and Denise Sharp of Konawa, Jim and Terry Sharp of Asher and Bill and Sue Sharp of Oklahoma City; two daughters-in-law, Ellen Sharp of Allen and Janet Sharp of Konawa; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. Burial will follow at Vista Cemetery.

Nelva Lorena Wyatt

Meeker resident Nelva Lorena Wyatt, 72, passed away peacefully in Shawnee with her family by her side on Oct. 21, 2006.
Nelva was the daughter of Frank P. and Daucy V. (Teeples) Flowers.

On Sept. 9, 1960, she married Elmer L. "Slim" Wyatt in Ft. Meade, Md.

Preceding her in death were her mother and father, one brother, one sister, two sons and one grandson.

Survivors include her husband, Slim, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Mitchel ansd Stacey Wyatt; two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Darrell Markwell of Edmond and Vonda and Don Langille; sister, Phenon Griffin; sister-in-law, Carol Flowers, all of Meeker; grandchildren, Skyler Wyatt, Meeker, Mesha and Colby Wolfe, Meeker, Damon Markwell and his wife, Jennifer and Lindsey Gothard and her husband, Kyle, all of Yukon; great-grandchildren, Brayden Markwell and Olivia Gothard, both of Yukon.

Lincoln County resident Paul Wayne Moore, 64, departed this life Tuesday, Oct. 24, in Shawnee.
He was born March 30, 1942, in Chandler to John and Reva Ellen (Gazaway) Moore.

Paul married Deva Watson on Oct. 30, 1960, in Yukon.

He was an active member of Living Waters Tabernacle.

Paul's enjoyments in life were eating at the Senior Citizen's Center, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his grandbabies. He also took great joy in the Church Hospital Ministry.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, J.T. and Charles Moore.

Survivors include his wife, Deva, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Tena Louise and Royce Clemons, Meeker, and Rebecca Ruth and Kenneth Cowan, Shawnee; brother, Arthur Lee Moore, Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters, Margaret Wells, Grand Junction, Colo., and Betty Jo Williams, Meeker; grandbabies, Crystal and Darren Harris, Justin and Catherine (Kat) Clemons, Alisha and Billy Helms, Brian Cowan, April Cowan and Brooke Cowan; great-grandbabies, Jaycob Harris and Aviary Helms.

Paul was loved by all and loved everyone he met.

Dave "Sonny" Hill

Henryetta resident Dave "Sonny" Hill passed away Tuesday, Oct. 24, in Okemah at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 27 days.
He was born Oct. 27, 1932, in rural Okemah to Susie and Jack Hill.

On Sept. 28, 1959, he married Shirley Lee in Dewar, Okla.

Sonny was an auto mechanic for over 40 years. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army and a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Sonny was a member of Ryal Indian Community Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were both parents, two children, two brothers and stepmother, Mary Hill.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Hill, of the home; six sons, Silas Hill of Midwest City, Steve Hill and wife, Laura, of Tecumseh, Stewart Hill of the home, Sherman Hill of Shawnee, Shawn Hill and wife, Ursula, of McLoud, and Ricky Little Axe and wife, Kayci, of Shawnee; three daughters, Shelley Gibson of Midwest City, Stacey Billie and husband, Barney, of Tecumseh, and Serena Foreman and husband, Leonard, of Shawnee; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six brothers; three sisters; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Jack W. Kizzia

Shawnee resident Jack W. Kizzia, 83, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, in Shawnee.
He was born April 9, 1923, in Braggs, Okla., to Ramsey M. and Mae Miller-Kizzia.

On July 14, 1946, he married Jereda P. Harris in Muskogee.

Jack served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific.

He was an active member of Downtown Pentecostal Holiness Church, Diamond Sr. group and the V.F.W. Post# 1317. He also was a Mason.

Jack was former owner and operator of Kizzia Heating and Air Conditioning. The company still operates in Shawnee and Jack was active as a consultant to the new owner, his son.

He was Shawnee City Commissioner for 12 years.

He pursued his love of flying as a pilot for many years.

Jack was an ideal husband and father, who enjoyed his family immensely as well as his church.

Preceding him in death were both parents and a brother, Howard Kizzia.

Survivors include his wife, Jereda Kizzia, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Susan Kizzia of Shawnee; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Toby Angell and Patti and Greg Webb, all of Stillwater; five brothers, Dewey Kizzia, Frances "Knot" Kizzia, Bob Kizzia, Jim Kizzia and Millard Kizzia; one sister, Doris Ellen Murphy; six grandchidren, Jill Terrell, Monica Black, Scott Beasley, Holly Angell, Amy Angell and Taylor Webb; two great-grandchildren, Josh Terrell and Tiffany Terrell.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Downtown Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Ron Baldridge officiating.

Dorothy Margaret Almon

Shawnee resident Dorothy Margaret (Thomas) Almon, 78, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Unity Hospital.
She was born Dec. 23, 1927, in Hastings, Neb., to Robert Russell and Pearl D. (Spicknall) Thomas.

She attended Holstien High School in Nebraska.

Dorothy was married to Roger H. Almon for 60 years.

She was a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church.

Dorothy loved taking care of her roses, crotcheting, and, most of all, her family.

Preceding her in death were her parents, one sister and one son, Roger "Sonny" Dale Almon.

Survivors include her husband, Roger, of the home; children, Jeannie Humphryes of Vance, Ala., Robert Almon of Shawnee, Wendy Almon of Oklahoma City and Duck Carroll of Vance; siblings, Ruby Faber, Larry Thomas, Jim Thomas and Hazel Kennedy; sister-in-law, Marie Buckley; grandchildren, Jamie and LaDonna Almon, Tamera and Travis Daniel, Jennifer Lair, Larry Wayne and Ramona Humphryes and Robby Almon; great-grandchildren, Candace Lynch, David Alan Carter, Clayton Scott Lynch, Peyton Lair, Colby Daniel, Morgan Daniel, Kaydee Almon, Brandon Almon, Larry Humphryes, Michael Humphryes and Michelle Humphryes; numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruby Deffenbaugh-Stewart

Former Seminole County resident Ruby Lottie Deffenbaugh-Stewart died Wednesday, Oct. 25, in Oklahoma City at the age of 90.
She was born Jan. 5, 1916, to Levi L. and Lady Ethel (Moore) Lacquement. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Oklahoma City.

Ruby was married to Oliver R. Deffenbaugh in Lincoln County on May 31, 1935, and he preceded her in death on June 11, 1980.

Ruby was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist Church.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, three adult brothers, one infant brother, two adult sisters, one infant sister, and one daughter, Beverly Clancy.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Rose Marie and Lynn Wolfe and Mildred and Bill Spears, all of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Nelda Smith of Prague, Faye Brown of Yucca Valley, Calif., and Ina Heil of Oklahoma City; ten grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Vista Care Hospice, Dr. Dixon and the staff of Bellevue Health and Rehab Center for their loving care and support.

Ray Dean Buzzard

Fort Worth, Texas, resident Ray Dean Buzzard, 71, died Thursday, Oct. 26, in Fort Worth.
He was born Aug. 12, 1935, in McLoud.

On April 4, 1969, he married Nancy Haggard.

Mr. Buzzard was a retired geologist and graduate of Oklahoma State University.

He was a member of University Christian Church in Fort Worth.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy; daughter, Kimberly Wilie, both of Fort Worth; grandsons, Taylor and Austin; two brothers, Dickie Buzzard of McLoud and Bobby Buzzard of Shawnee; and sister, Margaret Bird of McLoud.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. today at Proffitt Cemetery in Young County, Texas.

Harold Cook

Former longtime Shawnee resident Harold "Buddy" Cook passed away peacefully at his Oklahoma City home surrounded by his loving family on Oct. 25, 2006.
Buddy was born to McKinley and Hattie Cook in 1936. He attended "old" Shawnee High School from 1951 to 1954.

Buddy was employed at General Electric in Winfield, Kan., until 1966. He retired from General Motors Assembly Plant in Oklahoma City in 1992.

He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren at family gatherings and, especially, Sunday dinner.

Buddy was known for his great sense of humor and was always quick to offer a helping hand to anyone who needed it.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; his children and their families, Terrie and Danny Boyce, Stephen and Nellie Cook, Darrell Cook, Russell and Susan Cook, Michelle Murrow, Misty and Doug Johnson, Amanda Taoufik, Braden Cook, Nadia Taoufik; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

We all love and care for him deeply and he will be greatly missed.

Dorothy Leona Weddle

Shawnee resident Dorothy Leona Weddle, 84, died Friday, Oct. 27, at a local nursing home.
She was born July 19, 1922, in Shawnee to Henry Bowen and Lucy (Hodgson). She attended Shawnee schools.

On Oct. 7, 1938, she married C.H. "Buck" Weddle.

Dorothy was a homemaker and housewife and also worked as the Kerr Dining Hall supervisor at O.B.U. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.

Dorothy enjoyed sewing, painting, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; six siblings, Vernie Bowen, Lola Vanderburg, Nema Campbell, Marie Weaver, John Taylor Bowen and Henry Bowen.

Survivors include three children, Harold Dean Weddle and wife, Nedra, of Ada, Anna Hudson and husband, Dennis, of Shawnee, and Donnie Allen Weddle and Vicky Ontiveros of Shawnee; 12 grandchildren, Tanya and Darrin Marical, Steve and Kristi Weddle, Darren Rutherford, Gena and David Hutcheson, Jennifer and Jason Lolacono, Kandi and James Siverhus, John Weddle, Melissa and Floyd Moody, Kara Hudson, Vanessa Brown, Yevette Brown, and Cornell Brown; 12 great-grandchildren, Skylar, Chase, Dacey, Olivia, Allison, Asher, Presley, Zaria, Jordan, Britney, Chelsey and Chaz; one great-great-grandson, Kamron; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Lee Bowen, Faye Bowen and Eula White; two brothers-in-law, Doyle Vanderburg and Pete Rusche; other family members include Fred Rutherford and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Donna Faye Sudduth

Lifelong McLoud/Dale area resident Donna Faye (Starkey) Sudduth, 61, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, at a local hospital.
She was born Jan. 20, 1945, in Miami, Ariz. to E.L. and Agnes Ima (Higgins) Starkey. She attended Dale High School.

On April 20, 1978, she married Jerry Sudduth in McLoud.

She retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 1984. She also worked as an LPN and volunteered for Hospice and Birthright.

Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, Bobby Starkey.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Sudduth of the home; four children, Kim Freeman of Shawnee, Pamela Bartlett and husband, Blair, of McLoud, Scott Wilson of McLoud and Michael Wilson of McLoud; two grandchildren, Sarah Walton and Josh Freeman and one on the way; one great-granddaughter, Zoe Walton; two sisters, Betty Hawthorne of McLoud and Carol Starkey Nichols of Shawnee; two brothers, Dee Starkey and wife, Reta, of Oaks, Okla., and Richard Starkey and wife, Sonja, of McLoud; numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. at McLoud First Baptist Church with Ernest Graham, Bill Derrick and Larry Sparks officiating. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.


Ronald Ralph Rosenfelt

Norman resident Ronald Ralph Rosenfelt, 63, died Friday, Oct. 27, in Midwest City.

He was born April 11, 1943, in Farnam, Neb., to Clyde Merlin and Marie (Sorensen) Rosenfelt.

Born in Nebraska, he lived in Missouri for three years before moving to Little Axe, where he had lived for the last 57 years.

He raised and traded livestock since he was 13 years old. He enjoyed attending cattle sales and joking with his family.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Dennis and Raymond Rosenfelt.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Phylis Rosenfelt of Little Axe; daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Rodney Grady of Little Axe; fiance, Anna Marie Riffe of Little Axe; brother, Ted Rosenfelt; two sisters, Donna and Margaret Rosenfelt, both of Little Axe; siter-in-law, Clara Mae Rosenfelt of Little Axe; niece, Tammy Todd; four grandchildren, Justin and Jessie Rosenfelt and Ferren and Jarod Carr, all of Little Axe.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Little Axe Baptist Church with the Rev. Sunny Stuart, minister of Little Axe Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at Falls Cemetery, Norman.

Michael J. Helean

Tulsa resident Michael J. Helean passed away at his home after a short illness.
Michael was a longtime member of the Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Union Local 430 and had worked as a project estimator and journeyman plumber in the Tulsa area for a number of years. He had retired in early 2004.

He is survived by his sisters, Carol Epperson of Okemah and Helen Gillis and her husband, Harold, of Claremore; his brother, William P. Helean of Oklahoma City; three sons, Ronnie Helean of the home, Walter Helean and his wife, Jeramiah, of Olympia, Wash., and Martin Helean and his wife, Socorro, of Brunswick, Ga.; grandson, Riley Helean; granddaughters, Jessica Helean and Kaleah Helean; and many nieces and nephews.

Prayer service will be held 7 p.m. Monday in the Musgrove Merriott-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Claremore.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Claremore, with Father Paul Eichhoff officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the VFW 5th District Rifle Squad will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Claremore.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home 1 p.m to 7 p.m. Monday.

James Barnes

Seminole resident James "Jim" Barnes died Wednesday, Oct. 25, in Seminole at the age of 68.

Jim was born May 2, 1938, in Dumas, Ark., to Garner and Versie (Scott) Barnes.

He was raised in Tiller, Ark., where he graduated from Tiller High School. Following his graduation he lived in California. In 1963 he moved back to Oklahoma City, also living in Shawnee before moving to Seminole in 1972.

On June 19, 1964, he married Betty Henson in Paris, Texas.

Jim was a plaster pattern maker in the aircraft industry, working for Rockwell International, Gulf Stream, Lear, Bell Helicopter and Nordam. He was one of only three pattern makers in the United States.

He was a member of Twin Oaks Baptist Church and Tool and Dye Makers.

Jim enjoyed fiberglass fabricating, bluegrass music, hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Barnes of the home; four sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and June Barnes of Seminole, Ronnie and Barbara Barnes of Tecumseh, Roger and Judy Barnes of Seminole, and David and Angela Barnes of Earlsboro; mother, Versie Barnes of Little Rock, Ark.; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry Wayne and Sally Barnes of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Geneva Horton of Little Rock, Ark., and Kathy Dogget of Eastland, Texas; seven grandchildren, Matthew D. Barnes-Williams, Shane Michael Barnes, William Barnes, Clayton Barnes, Dylan Barnes, Brandy Lynn Barnes and Misty Lynn Barnes; and number friends and othe family members.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Twin Oaks Baptist Church with Rev. Forrest Weast officiating. Burial will be at Little Cemetery.

Emmitt William Robinson

Oklahoma City resident Emmitt William (Bud) Robinson died Thursday, Oct. 26, at his home.
Service was held Monday, Oct. 30, at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Oklahoma City, with Pastor Jim Lehew officiating. Burial followed in Resthaven Memory Gardens.


Charles Robert Hoyle

Shawnee resident Charles Robert Hoyle, 86, died Sunday, Oct. 29, at a local nursing home.
He was born Sept. 28, 1920, in Norman to Charles R. Hoyle and Minnie Elizabeth Hoyle.

He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1937. On Feb. 6, 1942, he married Betty Jeanne Maxey.

Mr. Hoyle served in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1963 as a Lt. Colonel. He then received a bachelors degree from OBU in 1965 and taught chemistry and math at Shawnee High School for 19 years.

Mr. Hoyle was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, the Elks Lodge and the Men's Senior Golf League.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; one brother, William Hoyle; two brothers-in-law, Dallas Dennis Thomas and Harry S. Richard; and one sister-in-law, Helen Louise Richard.

Survivors include two sons, Charles R. Hoyle III of El Reno and Lee Hoyle and wife, Maggie, of Shawnee; one grandson, Jacob Hoyle of Shawnee; one sister, Lorraine Lewis and husband, Art, of Ventura, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Tokee Richard of Shawnee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Walker Funeral Service with Dr. Larry Adams officiating.

Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Walker Funeral Service, Shawnee.
