George Leland Morris Jr II

Longtime Seminole resident George Leland Morris Jr. II died Thursday, June 29, at his home.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Baptist Church of Seminole with the Rev. Steve Cline officiating.
Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.


Charlene Price

McLoud resident Charlene Price, 71, died Thursday, June 29, at her home.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Dale Cemetery with Darrell Witten officiating.


Betty Jane Marr

Betty Jane Marr, age 73, passed away June 28, 2006, in Shawnee, Okla. She was born December 11, 1932, to J.C. and Cliva Bennett in Crandall, Texas.
On Sept. 7, 1953, Betty married her soul mate, Paul Marr. For 52 years they have been side by side. They were longtime members of The Morning Star Baptist Church in Meeker. They were currently members of the Day Star Baptist in Shawnee. Betty taught Sunday school at various different churches.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind her devoted husband Paul Marr of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and Lawton Crownover of Shawnee, and Vicki and Mike Hudoba of Moore; four grandchildren, Amanda Crownover, Jana and husband, Joe Alexander, Andrea and husband, Chris Grove, and Nicole Moore; two great-grandchildren, Evan and Dylan Grove; and friends that will miss her dearly.
A graveside service was held 10 a.m. today at Jamison Cemetery in McLoud under the direction of Hibbs Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center in Choctaw.

Tecumseh resident Thelma Copeland, 99, died Friday, June 30, in Tecumseh.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Darrel Tiller officiating.
Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.


Clay Booth

Tecumseh resident Clay Booth, 68, died Thursday, June 29, in Oklahoma City.
He was born July 23, 1937 in Wanette to Frank Eugene and Ruth (Cottrell) Booth.
He grew up in the Wanette and Purcell areas, but also lived in Norman, Shawnee, and Oklahoma City. Clay attended school at Trousdale, Wanette and graduated from Washington High School.
On April 26, 2002, he married Dicy Terrell in Shawnee.
Clay drove a truck, he owned and operated a service station and worked as a mechanic for Otasco Tire and Battery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Eddie Booth; two sisters, Sue Pritchard and Judy Booth; two nieces, Jody Booth and Donna Schumacher.
Survivors include his wife, Dicy Booth of the home; three sons, Ted Booth of Brigham City, Utah, Howard Booth of Illinois, and James Booth of Lubbock, Texas; daughter, Penny Booth of Kansas City, Mo.; two stepsons, Bobbie Black of Midland, Texas, and Troy Black of Oklahoma; three stepdaughters, Julie Dennis of Oklahoma City, Joy Griggs of Tecumseh, and Jeana Knight of Tecum seh; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; one sister, LaVonne Schumacher of Oklahoma City; one brother, Bert Booth of Dallas, Texas.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with John Morton and Paul Jackson officiating. Burial will be at Wanette Cemetery.


Nathan Allen Heinzig

Nathan Allen Heinzig departed this life Saturday, June 24.
Nathan was born July 6, 1983, in Shattuck, Okla. He was 22 years old. Nathan was the son of David and Donna Heinzig.
Nathan served his country proudly as Lance Corporal Nathan Allen Heinzig, USMC. He was a man of many talents. Nathan enjoyed riding motorcycles on and off road. His love for building model trains, as well as his respect for steam and Alco diesel engines, provided an opportunity to work hands on for Northern Nevada Railroad Museum, with full respect of his senior volunteers while in middle and early high school years.
He enjoyed working out, hiking, and camping. He planned to further his education as a mechanical engineer.
Nathan is survived by a daughter, Merrique Rose; his parents, David and Donna Heinzig and Vetha Orb-Newby; brothers, Steven Heinzig of Shawnee, Michael and Beth Ann Heinzig of Forth Lenord Wood, Mo., Kyle and Jennifer Askley Baldridge of Texas, Lyle and Janet Baldridge of Georgia, and Anthony Owens of Elko, Nev.; grandparents, Earl and Hazel Heinzig of Shawnee, Wayne and Bobbie Newby of Meeker, Gerald and Della Cooper; partner in life, Krystle Keese.
Service will be 2 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home with Terry Newell officiating.


Frank Holik

Lifelong Lincoln County resident Frank Holik, 88, departed this life on June 29, in Meeker.
He was born on November 2, 1917, in Sparks to Joseph and Frances Teresa (Navaritil) Holik. He was a life-long resident of Lincoln county.
He was married December 7, 1946, to Pansy Kate Conley. She preceded him in death on January 9, 2003.
Frank proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He retired from Tinker Air Force Base and was a member of the ZCBJ Lodge No. 46.
After retirement Frank enjoyed farming, fishing and playing his musical instruments.
He also was preceded in death by parents, seven brothers, and three sisters.
Survivors include daughter, Nancy Ann Myers of Joplin, Mo.; grandchildren, Briggitta Thuma of Neck City, Mo., Sara Clemmons, Veronica Dostal both of Joplin, Mo; great-grandchildren, Kristin, Jackie, Katrina, Sierra, Megan, Walter John, Kimberly Abigail Dawn, Michael, Sara Nichole, and Christopher; three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Czech National Cemetery in Prague with the Rev. Starland Davis officiating. Following the service the family will receive friends in the family room of Parks Brothers Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.

Thelma Copeland

Tecumseh resident Thelma Copeland, 99, died Friday, June 30, in Tecumseh.
She was born May 8, 1907, in Mountain View, Ark., to Abe Butler and Gertrude (Lancaster) Knight.
She married Joseph Benton Copeland on Feb. 23, 1924, and they moved to Oklahoma and settled in Tecumseh. He preceded her death on March 13, 1965.
She managed a family skating rink and Copeland Laundry and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Tecumseh.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons: John Copeland Sr. and Newton Copeland; a grandson, John Copeland Jr.; and one brother, Ralph Knight.
Survivors include one son and three daughters-in-law: Paul and Cynthia Copeland of Fort Worth, Texas, Pat Copeland of Shawnee and Dorthea Copeland of Shawnee; eight grandchildren: Mary Copeland Fallin, Billy Copeland, Jimmie Copeland, Tommy Copeland, Steve Copeland, Paula Donaldson, Terri Baker and Ginger Aulds; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel in Tecumseh with the Rev. Darrel Tiller officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until service time Monday.


Mary Alice Harjoe

Former Seminole resident Mary Alice Harjoe, 68, died Friday, June 30, in Houston, Texas.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel in Seminole. Burial will follow at Coker Family Cemetery in Seminole.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Home.


Louis J. Walenta

Longtime Oklahoma City-area resident Louis J. Walenta, 82, died Friday, June 30.
He was born May 15, 1924, on his parents' farm in Prague.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a corporal with the 22nd Marine Regiment, Sixth Marine Division in World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star on Jan. 31, 1945, and also was awarded a Purple Heart.
After living in the Oklahoma City area, he lived in Salina and Chouteau. He was employed by Swanda Brothers for 26 years and was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Association. He retired at 58.
He enjoyed fishing and designing and building his own house.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delora; his wife, Naomi; and three brothers, Raymond Walenta, Herman Walenta and George Walenta.
Survivors include: One daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Larry Burris of Oklahoma City; granddaughter, Kim Machalec of Katy, Texas; grandson, Scott Burris and his wife Julie of Houston, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Logan Machalec and Nathanael Burris.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Carl Raymond Squire

Shawnee resident Carl Raymond Squire, 43, died Saturday, July 1, in Shawnee.
He was born Aug. 8, 1962, in Shawnee to William and Darby Marie (Foreman) Squire.
Carl was a member of Sallateesk Indian Baptist Church and a member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Darby Squire, and one brother, William John Squire.
Survivors include his father, William Squire of Shawnee; three brothers, Burton Thomas Harjo of Sapulpa, Sammy Harjo of Norman, and Billie Gene Squire of Shawnee; two sisters, Charlotte Veda Rania Mauldin of McLoud, Sharon Melody Harjo of Shawnee; one uncle, Amper Foreman of Anadarko; ten nephews; seven great nephews; eight nieces; and seven great nieces,
A wake service will be 7:00 p.m. Monday at Horseshoe Bend Community Center with the Rev. Wayne Wilson will officiating and with George Blanchard conducting Tribal Rites.
Burial will be at Clark Cemetery.


Harrell C. Kennedy

Harrell C. Kennedy, 66, of Yukon passed away Sunday, July 2, 2006, at St. Anthony Hospital, Oklahoma City.
He was born Aug, 29, 1939 in Ada, the son of the late Evert and Esta Lee (Ingram) Kennedy.
A graduate of St. Louis High School, St. Louis, Okla., Harrell served in the U.S. Army and then attended Oklahoma Baptist Uniersity and The University of Oklahoma, receiving his BS Degree.
A resident of Yukon since 1989, Harrell was a teacher at the Mid-Del Technology Center, Midwest City, where he received the outstanding Service Award in 2005.
He was a member of St. Eugene Catholic Church, Oklahoma City.
Preceded in death by his parents and twin brother, Darrell B. Kennedy, Harrell is survived by his wife, Sherry Kennedy of the home in Yukon; son, Christopher Kennedy of Tulsa; grandson, Evert A. Kennedy of Kingwood, Texas; granddaughter, Morgan Kristen Kennedy of Tulsa; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis and June Brady of Frisco, Texas and Ted and Carolyn Brady of McKinney, Texas; nieces and nephews, Denise and Steve Elliott of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Chip and Allison Brady of Miami, Fla., Tina Long of Princeton, Texas and Jeff and Dee Brady of Colorado, Springs, Colo.
Memorial donations may be mde to the Friends of St. Eugene School (Tuition Assistance), P.O. Box 20930, Oklahoma City, OK 73156-0930.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Eugene Catholic Church, Oklahoma City, with the Rev. Joseph Jacobi officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park, Shawnee.

June Erline Way

June Erline P. Way, born in Norman in 1916, passed away June 28, 2006. Erline was preceded in death by her husband, David, in 1964 and her eldest daughter, Dolores Robinson, in 2005.
She was known for her strong heart, gentle ways and joyful spirit. As a single mom, she raised her daughters and grandson, while beginning her career as an executive secretary at Orthopedic Hospital. Fascinated by art, food and people, she traveled the world.
Erline was an active member of the Presbyterian Churches in Santa Monica and Bel Air, Calif. She served in the Junior League and Crippled Children's Guild at Orthopedic Hospital, and was a docent at the J. Paul Getty Museum.
Our "Mimi" will be dearly missed by many friends, caregivers and family, including her daughter, Vicki (Bill) Tackett; grandchildren, Scott (Dana) Robinson and Bob (Claudia) Robinson; and great-grandchildren, Dean, Tyler and Dylan.

Charlotte Janway

Tecumseh resident Charlotte Janway, 81, died Saturday, July 1, in Tecumseh.
She was born Nov. 16, 1924, in Pottawatomie County to Lon D. and Lena Agnes (Parsons) Bowers.
She was reared in Romulus and also lived in Prague. She resided in the Tecumseh and Shawnee areas most of her life.
She attended school in Romulus and Tecumseh and was a homemaker. She also worked at Sylvania for many years and later owned and operated a cafe, convenience store and gas station in the Tecumseh area.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Crosslin; a son, Jim Keys; her parents; and two brothers, Lon Bowers Jr. and Gene Bowers.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Vernon and Connie Keys of Shawnee and Walter and Tommy Janway; two sisters, Jerrie Brown of Arizona and Louise Pine of Eufaula; a brother, Glen Bowers of Ponca City; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Tecumseh Cemetery with Chaplain Larry Chesser of Faith Hospice officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Keys Jr., James Elmer Keys, Wayne Keys and Zachary Janway.
Service is under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.


Lois Maebelle Shelton

Shawnee resident Lois Maebelle Shelton, 93, died Sunday, July 2, at a local nursing home.
She was born May 8, 1913, in Katy, Okla., to Henry and Ada (Lovell) Mullins. She attended school in Wynnewood.
She married Newton W. Shelton July 1, 1935, in Sulphur and moved to Shawnee in 1974.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 27, 2003.
Survivors include a nephew, Joe E. Austin of Oklahoma City; two great-nephews, Joe L. Austin and wife Dori of Moore and Mark Austin and wife Kim of Arcadia; two great-nieces, Tammy Orr and husband Ron of Oklahoma City and Stephanie Austin of Parma, Idaho; and a sister-in-law, Loreen Mullins of Woodward.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Tecumseh Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Zimmer officiating.

Rosalie Magdalen Willoughby

Rosalie was born on July 28, 1927, in Prague and departed this life on Saturday, July 1, 2006, in Thousand Oaks, Calif., at the age of 78.
Rosalie, the daughter of Charles W. and Anna Frances (Martinek) Babek, was a resident of California. Rosalie married Winford Willoughby on March 28, 1948, in Prague at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Anna Babek; husband, Winford J. Willoughby; and brother, Raymond John Babek.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Morris of Norman and Vernonica "Vicky" Freas of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; grandsons, Eric and wife, Regan Isaacs, of Oklahoma City, and Cody Freas of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; granddaughter, Lacey Freas of Thousand Oaks.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Prague. Burial will follow at the Catholic Cemetery in Prague under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.


Jacqueline Ann Lipe

Longtime shawnee resident Jacqueline "Jackie" Ann Lipe, 59, died Saturday, June 24, in Shawnee.
Jackie was born Feb. 21, 1947, in Fresno, Calif.
She was known as a loving and thoughtful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.
Jackie is now in Jehovah God's memory awaiting the resurrection to a life when "the meek shall inherit the earth" and "tears, pain, and death will be no more" (John 11; Psalm 37:11, 29; Revelation 21:3, 4). Until that happy time, she will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband, Mickey Lipe; daughters, Leslie Ainesworth and Marcie Meeks; mother, Wilma Thompson; sister Carolyn Rutledge; extended family; and a host of friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturdya at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1700 W. Slover, Shawnee.

Viola Faye Yates

Shawnee resident Viola Faye Yates, 93, departed this earth to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 5.
She was born Oct. 18, 1912, in Tecumseh to Charles Monroe and Lillie Mae Simpkins-Bettis.
Viola graduated from Tecumseh High School.
She was married Aug. 5, 1933, in Shawnee to Charles Dorsey "Chick" Yates. He preceded her in death in Jan., 1979.
She was employed by and retired from the Pottawatomie County Court House Assessors office. She was a longtime member of Central Church of Christ.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Dewey and Preach Bettis.
Survivors include on son and daughter-in-law, Charles Robert "Bob" and Helen LaVerne Yates of Richardson, Texas; daughter, Virginia Herrera of Shawnee; granddaughter Beth Ann Collins and husband, Myles "Red" of McKinney, Texas; one sister, Iva Mae Bailey of Norman; three more grandchildren, Bryan Harley Yates and wife, Leslie, Janette Dee Sutcliffe and husband, Glen, and Renee Noelle Miller; ten great-grandchildren, Amber Nicole Brooks and husband, Dusty, Brandon Burrow, Tyler Collins, Shawna Yates, Lauren, Phillip and Michael Martinez, and Sierra, Justice and Zoey Miller; three nieces, Susan Faye Jensen, Coweta Callahan, and Marie Bettis.
Visitation will be all day Friday. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Resthaven Memorial Park of Shawnee with Dwayne Dennis officiating.

Former Shawnee resident DeWayne Booker died Monday, July 3, 2006, at the age of 53.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bell & Farrell Church of Christ under the direction of Temple & Sons Funeral Directors, Inc., Oklahoma City. Burial will follow in Earlsboro Cemetery.

Seminole resident Kenneth Jessie Kelly, 78, died Monday, July 3, 2006, at Oklahoma Heart Hospital, Oklahoma City.

Stroud resident Mabel McFarland died Thursday, July 6, in Stroud at the age of 94.

Pauline Shirey

Shawnee resident Pauline "MeMa" Shirey, 76, died Wednesday, July 5, in Shawnee.
She was born Dec. 7, 1929 in Carlton, Okla., to Paul and Susie (Meeks) Bates. Although born and raised in Carlton, she lived in Tecumseh since 1953.
Pauline graduated from Concho High School and attended nursing school in Lawton.
On April 10, 1955 she married William J. "Bill" Shirey Sr. in Chickasha. Bill preceded her in death on July 24, 1995.
She worked as an LPN at Shawnee Indian Hospital, Mission Hill Hospital and Sunset Estates Nursing Home before retiring in 1988.
Pauline was a member of the Arapaho tribe. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; two sisters, Ruby Shawnee and Norma Jane Spotted Corn; brother, Francis Bates.
She is survived by three sons, William J. Shirey Jr., James Francis Shirey, both of Tecumseh, and Arvin Paul Bates of Watonga; sister, Arvella Shoemake of Columbia, S.C.; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Home.
Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Home with the Rev. Lonnie Hurst officiating. Burial will follow at Brown Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Foughty, of the home; daughter, Sheila Miller, and her husband, Tony, of Choctaw; son, Les Foughty, and his wife, Charlotte, of Oklahoma City; daughter, Cheryl Lumry, and her husband, Steve, of Oklahoma City; son, Brian Foughty, and his wife, Susan, of Nicoma Park; daughter, Cassie Williams, and her husband, Shane, of Choctaw; her grandchildren, whom she loved very much, Joe Miller and his wife, Shannon; Kim Jensen and her husband, Jim; Bryan Miller and his wife, Kelly; Amanda Lumry; Sean Lumry; Tanner Foughty; Dustin Foughty; Austin Foughty; Brady Williams; Thad Williams; her great-grandchildren, Carter Jensen; Victoria Miller; Caleb Miller; Cayden Lumry, and Mykaela Lumry; brother, Arlyn Patterson and his wife, Barbara, of Shawnee; sister, Betty Moon, and her husband, Lecil, of Pearson; sister, Martha Clement, and her husband, Dean, of Mounds; Violet Moore of Shawnee; two aunts, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Squire Jackson Pearson and Mae Belle; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lloyd and Maudie Foughty; and sisters, Deloris Lamirand and Diana Patterson.
She was a great wife and mother and always placed her Lord and her family above all else. She loved family get-togethers and reunions and was an avid collector of antiques, family heirlooms and loved working on her family's genealogy.
She was a devoted fan of her grandchildren's baseball games and rarely missed any.
She reveled in telling her children of her days playing high school basketball in Harjo and loved attending her annual high school reunions.
She was an active member of the Citizen Potawatomi Tribe and was also an active participant in her weekly card club and attended First Baptist Church of Choctaw.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Choctaw and burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.
Arrangements are being administered by Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home in Midwest City.

Helen Annabelle Carlson

McLoud resident Helen Annabelle Carlson, 78, died Thursday, July 6, at a McLoud nursing home.
She was born March 28, 1928, in Los Angeles, Calif., to George Denny and Helen (Bither) Perry.
Helen graduated from Edison High School in Los Angeles.
She married the love of her life, Robert Carlson, in 1970 in California.
Helen worked in appliance sales, as a manager of a cable TV station and was an ombudsman for hospice.
She was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Shawnee.
Helen moved to Shawnee in 1997. She was a proud volunteer for hospice, working with patients as an ombudsman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, George Perry Jr.
Survivors include her five children, Donald Martin Jr. of Oregon, David Martin of Oregon, Steven Martin of California, Paul Thomas Martin of California and Christine and Jim Poole of Shawnee; five stepchildren, Pete, Bobby, Danny and Joe Carlson, Hannah Woolfe; two adopted children, Linc and Kathy Carlson; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as many loving friends and exceptional caregivers.
Memorial service will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at McLoud Nursing Center.
Memorials may be made to McLoud Nursing Center Activities Fund or the charity of your choice.


Freda Reed

Tecumseh resident Freda (Seckel) Reed, 55, died Saturday, July 8, in Oklahoma City.
She was born Dec. 5, 1950, in Shawnee to Kenneth Seckel and Imogene (Gunner) Smith.
Freda lived in Tecumseh and the surrounding areas her entire life.
She owned Freda's Cafe in Tecumseh.
Freda was a loving mother that loved everyone unconditionally. She was a woman who loved to laugh.
Preceding her in death were her parents and nephew, Jimmy Dale Kalivoda.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Jami and John Chaney of Ada, Joey and Jimmy Garner of Prague, Mattesha and Billy Wolf of Tecumseh; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Jeannie and Wayne Wilson of Shawnee, Kathy and Donnell Kalivoda of Oklahoma City, Linda Trinko of Tecumseh; four brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Jeanell Seckel of Shawnee, Ron and Janet Seckel of Seattle, Wash., Don and Kathy Tuggle of Modesto, Calif., Dan Tuggle of Modesto, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Bryan Chaney, Brittney Chaney, Tya Grass, Cody Grass, Shalyn Grass, Rachel Garner, Phalan and Matia Wolf; many friends and other family.
Service will be 2 p.m, Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Wilson, Glory Land Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Johnson Cemetery

Chandler resident Louise Acord, 81, died Sunday, July 9.

Geneva Ann Wilson-Nuckols

On Thursday, July 6, Geneva Ann Wilson-Nuckols, after losing a long and courageous struggle with cancer, left this life to begin a new life in heaven with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
She was born Jan. 24, 1940, in Waco (near Tecumseh) to Earl Loyd Wilson and Mamie Caroline Buckmaster. She attended Bethel Schools and Hope Well Baptist Church.
She married Charles "Chuck" Nuckols on Jan. 31, 1957 in Big Springs, Texas, where she was working as an elevator girl in the Settles Hotel.
After living in Tulsa for a few years, they moved to Fort Collins in June 1962. At various times Geneva had a day care business and a new construction cleaning business. She worked as a maid, an apartment manager for 10 years and worked more than 16 years at Colorado State University in the housing department.
Geneva was a member of Faith Evangelical Free Church and was active in the White Cross sewing group there. She was active in Women of Hope Cancer Support Group and Bible Study fellowship where she was a discussion group leader until her illness forced her to resign.
She loved camping, crocheting, embroidering and sending greeting cards to family and friends. She also was a longtime season ticket hold to the CSU women's basketball team.
She leaves behind her husband, Chuck Nuckols; sons, Kevin Rike and Richard Nuckols; daughters Tammy (Richard) Saracino and Sandra (Steve) Trupp; five grandchild, Eric Nuckols, Jessica Hood, Christopher Saracino, Jacquline Saracino and David Welch; two great-grandchildren, Zacariah Watts and Elisha Hood; brother, Jerry Wilson of Shawnee, Tommy Wilson of Branson, Mo.; sister, Velma Leach of Owasso, Paula Vance of Catoosa, and Lnda Gale of Greeley, Colo.


Sammy Lee Rooker

Sammy L. Rooker passed from this life Saturday, July 8, 2006.
Sammy was born June 5, 1927, to Johnny and Audrey Mae Heath Rooker at the family farm in Dale.
He attended Dale School and graduated in 1944. He attended Oklahoma Baptist University before joining the army as a medic in 1945 where he served with the First Infantry Division in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1947.
Sammy became a salesman for Mid Continent Supply and later FMC (Food Machinery and Chemical Company) where he worked until he retired in 1988. He was honored by FMC as Salesman of the Year numerous times.
Sammy was a member of the Calgary Sports Car Club and enjoyed filming the rallies from a passenger's perspective. The club recently opened an exhibit where some of Sammy's films of the rallies and autocrosses are shown. He also was a member of the Lamplighter Club and Pete Fountain's Marching Club in New Orleans, La.
Sammy lived in Calgary, Canada, and Aurora, Colo., before moving to New Orleans, La., in 1971. Because of Hurricane Katrina, he evacuated New Orleans in August of 2005 and lived at the Avonlea Cottage Assisted Living Center in Shawnee until his death. Although the evacuation from his home caused him much distress, he was in high spirits and happy to be near his brothers and sister again.
Sammy was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Virginia Rooker Craig, and his brother, John Ralph Rooker.
Sammy is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Collin Bradley Rooker and Phyllis Shreve of New Orleans; his former spouse, nee Judy Simpson of Vancouver, B.C.; his brothers and their spouses, Pete and Sue Rooker, and Mike and Chris Rooker of Dale and Tom and Clara Rooker of Checotah; his sister and her spouse, Pat and Don Molsbee of Dale; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dale Cemetery with the Rev. Russell Currie officiating. The casket will be open before the service and will not be afterward


Shirley A. Abbott

Shawnee resident Shirley A. Abbott, 66, died Saturday, July 8, at her residence.
She was born May 1, 1940, in Tekamah, Neb., to Arthur Lindell Tallman and Dorothy B. (Hanneman) Tallman.
On Dec. 3, 1971, she married Jack C. Abbott.
Shirley was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
In 1966 she moved to Shawnee.
Preceding her in death were her beloved husband, Jack; parents; two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include three sisters, Marquita Reese-Ailey of Shawnee, Sonja Reese and Doyle of Shawnee, Scharleen Cargill and John of Tecumseh; niece, Debra Mitchell and Jack; numerous other great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. today at Liberty Baptist Church with Bill Matthews, Phil Thompson and Larry Goins officciating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Liberty Baptist Church.

Malcolm Logan Fluitt

Wanette resident Malcolm Logan Fluitt, 80, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2006 at Norman Regional Hospital. He was born June 15, 1926, in Llano County, Texas, to Frank and Myrtle Ricketson Fluit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers, one granddaughter.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; sons, Logan and Tracey Fluitt of San Antonio, Texas, Norman Fluitt of Austin, Texas, and Robert and Jimmie Fluitt of Tecumseh; daughters, Patty and Jimmy Johnson of Wanette, Laura Logan of Wanette, Carolyn and Charles Bippert of LaGrange, Texas; brothers, Vernon and Bernice Fluitt of Fredericksburg, Texas, and Dr. A. Shawnee resident Ruth E. Amis Pipkin, 95, died Sunday, July 9.

Marta Unita Beartracks Walker

Maud resident, Marta Unita Walker, 97, passed from this life Monday, July 10, at Seminole Estates Nursing Facility in Seminole.
She was born March 22, 1909, in Brandsville, Missouri, to William Lafayette and Eliza Belle (Moore) Parks.
She married Fred Ervin Walker on April 17, 1926, in Kiefer. Following their marriage, they lived and worked in Cromwell, Struggleville, Fittstown, Beebe, Wewoka and Bethany before retiring to Maud.
Her husband Fred was a loving husband who adored his wife. Often as they strolled down the streets, he would lean down to kiss her cheek. He stood a full foot over her yet gave her the nickname of "Beartracks" even though her manner was very mild. He had named her after a boss he had while working in the oilfield, "Beartrack Jones." He was a rough and tough man and nothing ever escaped his scrutiny. Fred also enjoyed telling people she had a good left hook. The nickname stayed with her the rest of her life.
She was an excellent seamstress, having taught herself to sew at an early age, and received blue ribbons at Oklahoma State Fairs for her sewing.
Marta was able to attend school for only 8 years, but when she was 65, she returned to school and earned her high school diploma. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Maud and had also been a member of the Delphian Study Club in Maud.
She loved her family and her God and as she grew older her constant prayer was that she would not forget her God.
"Beartracks" is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 44 years in 1971; two sons-in-law, Farris Austin and Luther Harrison; one grandson, Jim Austin; one great grandson, Matthew Austin; her brothers, Jimmy, Homer, Ned J. and Ted L. Parks; her sisters, Nina Parks, Marie Parks, Lurene Herion, Nada Dunbar, and Wilma Henson. She is also preceded in death by two special friends and neighbors, Al & Betty Knight.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters and their husbands; Frances Austin of Plainville, Kansas, Beth and Bill Shipman of Maud, Oklahoma and Ray and Mimi Lee of Maud, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and their spouses; Frank& Corrine Austin of Tustin, California; Darrell & Nancy Austin of Fort Collins, Colo.; Steve & Alisa Austin Dreher of Plainville, Kansas; Walter & Namiqa Shipman of Big Spring, Texas; Bret Shipman of Maud, Oklahoma; Douglas & Donna Harrison of Milledgeville, Georgia; Martin & Pam Harrison of Lincoln, Nebraska; Jonathan & Leslie Harrison of Mission Viejo, California; and Jeff Harrison of Knoxville, Tennessee; 19 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The Viewing will be Tuesday through Friday, 9:00a.m. until 7:00p.m., at the Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home at the Corner of Broadway & Monroe in Maud, Oklahoma.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Trinity Baptist Church of Maud with the Rev. Wayne Taylor and the Rev. Namiqa Shipman officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Mounds.

Kent Brooks

Kent Brooks passed away Tuesday, July 4, at his summer home in Lynchburg, Va.
He was born Oct. 3, 1935, near Asher to J.L. "Dude" and Bertha (Davis) Brooks.
His family moved to San Francisco, Calif., when he was 8. After six years he returned to Asher where he graduated high school. He received an associate degree from Cameron Junior College, where he played football. He then attended The University of Oklahoma where he received a bachelor of science in petroleum engineering. He was a member of R.O.T.C, baseball team, student senate, numerous engineering organizations including PET, Knights of St. Pat and LKOT. At OU he was elected one of 100 Outstanding Independents by the university.
Kent served more than five years as an U.S. Air Force officer. He earned his wings and flew with the 2nd Fighter Squadron based out of Long Island, N.Y. His squadron was responsible for the protection of New York City during the Cold War.
While in service he married Donna Jean Bruza. They were stationed mostly on Long Island where their son, Scot, was born. He returned to Oklahoma City and went to work as an engineer for Gulf Oil, now Chevron, and was soon transferred to Buras, La., where their daughter,Tracy, was born. After a short time, their home was destroyed by a hurricane and they moved to New Orleans where daughter Paige was born and where Kent received a law degree from Loyola. He graduated in the top four of his class. He then moved to Dallas, Texas, to work for Sedco, first as an engineer and finally as vice president and general counsel of operations. He then worked as general counsel for Eagle Productions and later had his own consulting business.
He was involved in the formation of Dallas-based ENSCO, which he served as associate general counsel, president of ENSCO Resources and as director of Risk Management until his retirement in 2000.
After retiring, he and daughter Tracy Hunn founded Brooks Hunn PC, specializing in corporate and energy-related legal matters. He also served as an arbitrator.
Kent was a member of the RNLA, the Maritime Law Association, Dallas Bar Association, Texas Bar Association, Louisiana Bar Association and was certified to practice before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court. He was partner in Brooks Hunn and counsel to Eastham, Watson, Dale and Forney LLP in Houston. He was a registered engineer in Texas and Louisiana.
His work took him around the world. He traveled more than a million miles and experienced many cultures from sharing roast camel with a sheik to attending the initiation of a Nigerian tribal chief.
Despite the demands of world travel, he found time to coach soccer and help at home.
Except for a short time in Houston, they lived in Dallas for many years and were currently residing near Lake Texoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Claude and Peggy Bruza; brothers, James Earl Brooks and his wife, Vivian, and J.L. "Buck" Brooks.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; son, Scot, of Houston; daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy and Mark Hunn of Houston, Paige and Doug Roberts of Washington, D.C.; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Lena Brooks; sisters, Ophelia Grosz, Juanell Zandona and husband, Andy, Nelda Brooks; aunt, Mildred Murdock; four nephews, five nieces; sisters-in-law, Sharon Rout and Patti Chance; many other relatives and dear friends.
Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home, Dallas. A military ceremony and burial will be 1 p.m. at the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Avoca Church of Christ , north of Asher, Terry Newell will speak.


Louise Acord

Longtime Chandler resident Louise Acord, 81, departed this life on Sunday, July 9, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born May 22, 1925, in Chandler to Pete and Bertha (Fillman) Edmonson.
Louise graduated from Chandler High School in 1942.
On July 15, 1944, she married Leon Acord in Chandler.
She was co-owner of Acord Transportation in Chandler for many years.
Louise was a member of the First Baptist Church in Davenport.
Her parents and one brother preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Leon Acord, of the home; four sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Pat Acord, John and Jeanie Acord , Tom and Debbie Acord, Joe and Cindy Acord, all of Chandler; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Bill Shelton of Chandler, Lou Ann and Jerry Sukovaty of Davenport; two brothers, Vern Edmonson, C.A. Edmonson, both of Sapulpa; two Sisters, Vila Belle Alexander of Chandler, Eileen Peterson of Oklahoma City; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

J.W. Strickland

Shawnee resident J.W. "Chub" Strickland, 86, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 12.
Chub was born July 25, 1919, in Stratford to Pearl Elvie and John Walter Strickland.
He attended grade school in Ada moving to Shawnee his eighth-grade year. He played tennis, basketball and football for Shawnee junior and senior high, graduating in the class of 1938. Chub excelled in all three sports and earned a triple scholarship from Oklahoma Baptist University, playing all three sports for the Bison.
At the end of his junior year at OBU, Chub signed up as a pilot for the U.S. Navy and served as a "Hell Diver" in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Chub was a fledgling reporter at The Shawnee News-Star when he left for the Pacific. He sent many articles home telling of the action on the war front.
Strickland received many medals and citations for his courageous service to his country and his comrades. Many of his medals were lost because of a flood in his mother's basement years ago. With the assistance of Rep. Kris Steele, his medals were replaced and given to him in an honor ceremony October 2005, conducted by representatives from the U.S. Navy, Gov. Brad Henry's Office, Sen. Charles Laster's Office and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Following World War II, Chub returned to Shawnee. He worked as the director of the YMCA and served as the director of the local Red Cross office. He then secured the position of county clerk at the Pottawatomie County Courthouse.
He was married Oct. 20, 1948, in Shawnee to Dorothy LaVerne Hitt.
Chub eventually became a realtor and opened a real estate and insurance business with his partner and brother-in-law, C.B. Hitt, thus naming the company, "Hitt & Strickland Insurance and Real Estate Agency."
He served on the Shawnee Board of Realtors as president in 1952 and again in 1970. Chub and his wife Dorothy worked to build his real estate appraisal business in the late 1970s and retired in 1988.
He was a life member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Chub's real love, life-hobby and passion was for tennis. He played across the United States in tournaments and won many senior championships. Throughout the years, he spent time on local courts with many Oklahoma state title winners continuing to give them a run for their money on the court, even as he reached the 70 and over age group. He was always looking for a game. He even took his tennis racquet with him during the war. He enjoyed playing tennis around the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Walter W. and Thurman W. Strickland; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Allie and Clyde Bert Hitt; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, C.B. and Betty Hitt.
Chub is survived by his wife Dorothy of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and George Underwood, Midwest City, Debbie and Patrick Payne, Shawnee; grandchildren, Deidre and Larry Buettner, Moore, Todd and Stacy Underwood, Derby, Kan., Angela and Bobby Johnson, Midwest City, Scott Penson, Shawnee; great-grandchildren, Brian, Lacey and Landon Buettner, Moore, Troy and Tyler Underwood, Derby, Kan., Cassidy and Colton Johnson, Midwest City, Bryson Penson, Shawnee; sister, Nadine Wisler, Stillwater, half-sister Joann Chappell and half-brother Franklin Marlin "Buddy" Strickland; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Church of Christ, Shawnee with Dwyane Dennis and Robert Prate officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.


Lori Kathleen Wolf

Konawa resident Lori Kathleen "Kathy" (McCraw) Wolf died Wednesday, July 12, at Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada at the age of 49.
Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Matthew Brown officiating.
Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
