Michael A. Armstrong

Michael A. Armstrong, 20, of Shawnee, died Wednesday Sept. 14, 2005 in Oklahoma City.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Mathews officiating.

Arrangements under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Shawnee.

Gloria (Junk) Stasyszen

Gloria (Junk) Stasyszen died peacefully in her home Wednesday, Sept. 14, strengthened by prayer and by the presence of her husband, Bill, members of her family and her hospice care providers. Deeply rooted in her Catholic faith, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, employee and volunteer.
Born in Shawnee on June 17, 1925, she lived most of her life northwest of Tecumseh. She attended New Hope School and graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1942.

She married Bill E. Stasyszen on October 15, 1949, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Shawnee. She was a faithful member of the parish throughout her life. After becoming homebound, she maintained contact by reading the parish bulletin, visiting with parishioners in her home and prayerfully reading the scriptures used at daily Mass. She was a long-time member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Mrs. Stasyszen completed a 29-year career at Tinker Air Force Base as an Items Management Specialist at the Air Logistic Center. During the course of her tenure of service she received numerous awards and citations for outstanding performance and excellence, including a Sustained Superior Performance Award before her retirement in 1985.

A successful life-long homemaker, she was well known for the wide variety of hand-crafted items she made such as quilts, afghans, clothing items and dolls. She donated many of these items for charitable fund-raising events benefiting St. Benedict Parish, the Lincoln County Relay for Life to support the American Cancer Society, the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art and St. Gregory's University. She also enjoyed a positive spirit of competition at the Pottawatomie County Fair, at which she consistently garnered top honors for her handcrafts, home canning and baked goods.

A long-time volunteer leader for 4-H clubs, she served for many years as the organizational leader for the Tecumseh 4-H Club, was active with 4-H youth throughout Pottawatomie County and attended the Southeast Regional Leaders Conference at Rock Eagle, Ga., on numerous occasions.

An active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 260 in Tecumseh, she was especially dedicated to the needs of disabled veterans, for whom she designed and made hundreds of quilted lap blankets which she donated to veterans' hospitals over the course of several years.

In retirement, she enjoyed extensive travel with her husband and many friends, visiting all 50 states and Canada.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Mattie Junk of Tecumseh; several siblings and her eldest son, Peter M. Stasyszen.

Gloria is survived by her loving husband, Bill; her sons and daughters-in-law, Bill II and Jonna Stasyszen of Shelbyville, Ky., Joe and Marla Stasyszen of Chandler, Rick and Monica Stasyszen of The Woodlands, Texas, Fr. Lawrence Stasyszen, OSB, of St. Gregory's Abbey in Shawnee, and Jeannita Stasyszen of Meeker; grandchildren and their spouses, Jandi and Karlen, Bill III, Jason and Andrea, Philip, Sarah and Nate, Dusty, Mark, Jeff, Alex and Emily; great-grandchildren, Noah, Aaron, Allison, Alex and Alicia; sisters, Frances Marr of Tecumseh and Bernice Foree of Bethany; many nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful for the dedicated service provided by Loving Care Home Health and Hospice.

A Vigil of Prayer for Gloria Stasyszen will be held 7 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Shawnee. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Michael Andrew Armstrong

Shawnee resident Michael Andrew Armstrong, 20, left this world to meet his saviour Jesus Christ Wednesday, Sept. 14, in Oklahoma City.
He was born May 24, 1985, to Carl A. and Paula Armstrong.

He was a 2004 graduate of Shawnee High School and was a full-time student at Seminole State College majoring in Psychology with a minor in Business. He worked for his father and brother in the family business.

Michael loved playing chess, Final Fantasy game and attending college.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Waylon W. Snider and Blanche Snider; R.T. Armstrong; Clarence and Nadine Ray; Ira and Gladys Roberts; and grandmother Mary Jeanette Armstrong.

Survivors include his father, Carl A. Armstrong and step-mother Gina Armstrong of Shawnee; mother Paula Armstrong; sister and brother-in-law, Kristy and Justin Keeter and their daughter Addison Rhae of Tulsa; brother and sister-in-law Kurt Scott and Melissie Armstrong and their children Rainey, Bailey and Amelia of Oklahoma City; sister Candace Sweatt of Shawnee; grandfather Billy A. Armstrong and his wife Jane of Shawnee; grandmother Edna Faye Ray of Broken Arrow; grandfather Jimmy Ray and his wife Kay of Jenks; uncles, Leroy Ray of Tulsa; Bradley Ray of Jeff City, Mo.; and an aunt, Lisa Stillman and husband Shawn of St. Louis, Mo., along with numerous cousins and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Liberty Baptist Church with Bill Matthews and Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service of Shawnee.

McLoud resident Mary Virginia Wright, 81, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, in Midwest City.
Service will be 11 a.m. today at Dale Cemetery with the Rev. Tuney Ropp officiating.

Shawnee resident Billy "Nanny" June Mankin, 77, died Friday, Sept. 16, at an Oklahoma City hospital.

Billy June Mankin

Shawnee resident Billy "Nanny" June Mankin, 77, died Friday, Sept. 16, in an Oklahoma City hospital.
She was born April 19, 1928, in Lufkin, Texas, to Clinton and Annie Lewis.

She possessed a great talent for painting, free-hand art and calligraphy. In her later years, she enjoyed playing bingo. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered, loved and truly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, three sisters and one son.

Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Alva Mankin, of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Annie Shurtleff of Tulsa and Alva and David Marsh of Shawnee; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Pam Mankin of Bixby; one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and John Brown of Jayess, Miss.; five grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many other loving relatives and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Gaskill Funeral Chapel with Dr. Ed Moore officiating. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery.

Nora (Chandler) Nguyen

Nora (Chandler) Nguyen died Monday, Sept. 12, in Baton Rouge, La., after a long battle with cancer.

She was born Dec. 31, 1939, to Roy and Anna (Cheatwood) Chandler. She grew up in Shawnee and attended Shawnee schools.

She married Nong Nguyen in Baton Rouge June 14, 1969.

She was a homemaker and the mother of five children. She loved gardening, doing her own home decorating projects, and was a fantastic cook and hostess who had a generous and open heart.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two daughters, Anna Marie Nguyen Temple and Vickie Gene Permetter, as well as five siblings.

Survivors include her husband, Nong Nguyen of Baton Rouge; son, Phillip Chandler of Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, William and Tina Chandler of Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and James Reynolds of Shawnee; her sisters, Francene Freeman, Roberta O' Flanagan, Arless Lyon and Paulene Sharp, all of Shawnee, and Loretta Sinclair of Eufaula; brother, Harold Chandler of Texas; grandchildren, Brian, Cory, Krishna, Marissa, Aaron, Chance and Summer Chandler, Scott and Michelle Reynolds and Jenny and Jessica Permetter.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Walker Funeral Home with Dr. Bob Searl officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.

William Dwight Harber

William Dwight Harber, Christian husband, father and son, left this life Friday, Sept. 16, at his home.

He was born Feb. 20, 1931, in Seminole at The Harber Hospital to Claud and Ollie (Ball) Harber and delivered by Dr. Harber.

He graduated from Shawnee High School. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Oklahoma State University and a further degree from the Southern Methodist University Graduate School of Banking.

He was an officer at the American National Bank in Shawnee and was on the boards of directors of American National Bank and First National Bank of Seminole.

He married Nancy Kay Walton in 1954 in Oklahoma City and they made their home in Shawnee.

He served in the U.S. Army as an infantry officer for two years and then six years in the Reserve.

The family were longtime members of the Central Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, William Clay Harber.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Harber, of the home; sister-in-law, Karen Marasco, of El Paso, Texas, and a number of cousins.

Memorial donations may be made to Heartland Hospice of Shawnee.

Graveside service is 1 p.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Memorial Park with Robert Prator officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Darla Jean (Seal) Smith

Darla Jean (Seal) Smith, 68, died Friday, Sept. 16, at Seminole Estates Care Center.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Deanne Mowry officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park in Oklahoma City.

Dean Blair Snow

Chickasha resident Dean Blair Snow, 29, died Saturday, Sept. 17, in Oklahoma City, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born March 26, 1976, in Youngstown, Ohio.

He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1994 and attended Oklahoma State University. He completed basic training for the U.S. Marine Corps in 1999 and rose to the rank of lance corporal in the Reserves. In the meantime, he began an apprenticeship program through the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (Local 1141), training to become an electrician.

Dean was baptized into Christ on March 2, 2003. He married Jenese Epperson on Aug. 11, 2001, in Shawnee.

He was activated for service in Operation Iragi Freedom during 2003, and spent six months in Iraq and Kuwait. During his military career, he was awarded several commendations, ribbons, and medals, including the Combat Action Ribbon and the Presidential Unit Citation.

A deeply loving husband, son, and brother, Dean was also an eager Christian, thirsting to know more about his heavenly Father and longing for the reward that is now his. One of his greatest joys was helping people, and through death he made life possible for other by becoming an organ donor.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Windfall Snow, and his maternal grandfather, Dean Spence.

He is survived by his wife, Jenese, of the home; his parents, Steve and Beck Snow of Shawnee; his brother, Alan, of Shawnee; sisters, Erin of Shawnee and Stacey of Stillwater; his paternal grandmother, Flo Snow, of Niles, Ohio; his maternal grandmother, Margaret Spence- Bickel, of Oil City, Pa.; father and mother-in-law, Arthur and Noma Epperson of Shawnee; brother-in-law and wife, Brian and Allison Epperson of Missoula, Mont.; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and a wide circle of church family and friends.

Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, at Southern Oaks Church of Christ in Chickasha with Steve Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee.

Arrangements are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home, Chickasha.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Oaks Church of Christ youth programs, the American Cancer Society, or the American Red Cross.

Mable G. Cox

Mable G. Cox, 86, devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother passed from this life Sunday, Sept. 18 at her rural Meeker home.
She was born February 13, 1919 in Van Buren, Ark.

She married Leo H. Cox March 11, 1936 and moved to McLoud. She had been a member of Hazel Dell Baptist Church for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Oma Kendig; husband, Leo Cox; six brothers, George, Frank, Jim, Clyde, Charley and Henry Kendig; and three sisters, Laurie Hutchins, Vair Mae Pitchford and Frances Parks.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Earnest John and Bette Cox and Leon and Pat Cox and a daughter, Shirley Harris, all of Shawnee; a daughter and son-in-law, June and Richard Carter of Meeker; two sisters, Ora Belle Bowers of Eufala and Louise McGuyre of Mateca, Calif. Mabel also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Walker Funeral Service with the Rev. Glenn Pence and the Rev. Lee Witt officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service, Shawnee.

Virginia Helen (Gray) Wisdom

Shawnee resident Virginia Helen (Gray) Wisdom, 80, died Friday, Sept. 16, in Shawnee.
She was born April 1, 1925, in Shawnee to William and Oma (Strain) Gray.

She was reared in Shawnee and Bethel and attended Bethel Schools. She was a housewife, but also worked as a caregiver in the Shawnee and Tecumseh area for many years.

She was married to Jack Arvin Wisdom.

She was member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the focal point of her life. She enjoyed fishing, dancing and rodeos.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers, E.J. Gray, Fred Gray and Donley Gray; and one nephew, Richard Rogers.

Survivors include, one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Ronnie Suter of McAlester; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Margaret Wisdom of Arlington, Texas, and Floyd and Sondya Wisdom of Mulberry, Ark.; one sister and brother-in-law, Willie Mae and Alvin Rogers of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Cheri Taylor, Heather Quail, Daniel Quail, Ronnie Wayne and Annie Suter, Il., Angelia and Travis Sinclair, Jack Robert and Amber Suter and Shelia Suter; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

Service will be 10 a.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Clarence Brinkley officiating. Burial will follow at the Tecumseh Cemetery.

Bryson Glen Hobbs

Bryson Glen Hobbs of Shawnee, died Sunday, Sept. 18, at the age of 3.
He was born January 12, 2002, in Oklahoma City to Tina Hobbs and Orlando Jackson.

He loved music, movies, and being outdoors. His favorite things were horses, boats and lakes, and he loved smiling and laughing.

He is survived by his mother, Tina Hobbs of Shawnee; his father, Orlando Jackson of Oklahoma City; one sister, Shakira Hobbs of Shawnee; grandparents, Donna Hobbs (Nanna) of Konawa, Glen (Pappa) and Trish Hobbs of Shawnee, Marva and Joe Akins of Oklahoma City, and Larry Jackson of Oklahoma City; great-grandmother, Opal Hobbs of Bowling Green, Ky.; aunt and uncles, Sherrie Hobbs of Tecumseh, Angie and Wade Snodgrass of Konawa, Mandy and Dustin Peterson of Konawa, Deborah and Shannon Childers of Edmond, and Justin and Laura Hassen of Oklahoma City; and numerous cousins, great aunt and uncles, other family and many friends.

Vernon Newton Armstrong Jr.

Seminole resident Vernon Newton Armstrong, Jr., 62, died Monday, Sept. 19, at his home.
He was born Feb. 8, 1943, in Pawhuska to Vernon Newton Armstrong, Sr. and Opal Faye (Sumpter) Armstrong.

He graduated from Varnum High School in 1961.

On April 2, 1965, he married Diana Kay Johnson in Midland, Texas.

He retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 2001 where he was a Supervisor Air Craft Mechanic. He was also a dairy farmer.

He served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a former Varnum School Board member and a member of the OETRA for over 25 years. He attended Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Carolyn, and his father, Vernon Newton Armstrong, Sr.

Survivors include his mother, Opal Armstrong of Seminole; wife, Diana Kay Johnson of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Angela Armstrong of Seminole and David and Christy Armstrong of Seminole; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and William Adcock of Seminole; one brother and sister-in-law, T. Jack and Marilynn Armstrong of Poteau; one sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Perry Garrett of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Heather Adcock, Megan Adcock, Billy Adcock, Wyatt Armstrong, Luke Armstrong, Jennifer Armstrong, and Joshua Armstrong; he is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Froman Cowan, Larry Vulgamore, Bert Gill, Ted Hurt, Ray Taylor, and Joe Ragland.

Honorary Bearers are Raymond Yott, Kenneth Harbeston, JP Duvall and Jirl McGinnis.

Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Allen Wood and Bill Adcock officiating. Burial to follow at the Little Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.

Jackie Gale Woody

Longtime Seminole resident, Jackie Gale Woody, 61, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, in Oklahoma City.
He was born December 2, 1943, in Prague to Jessie Daniel and Mattie Lee (Ellis) Woody.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid sports fan and loved his dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and one brother.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kelly and Tina Woody of Shawnee; daughters and son-in-law, Tammy and Blake Tate of Shawnee and Debi Miller of Edmond; brothers and sisters-in-law, Danny and Mary Woody of Prague and Billy Joe and Peggy Woody of Beggs; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Ray Hall of Seminole; grandchildren, Bandi Bishop, Dylan Woody, Ryan Woody, Riley Woody, Brayden Tate, and Zoey Tate; and great-grandchild, Jayden Bishop.

Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Praise Assembly of God in Little with Bro. Doyle Seeley officiating. Burial will follow at the Little Cemetery in Seminole County.

Dream LeAnn Grass, infant daughter of Justin Dewayne Grass and Cheri Dawn Gaylin Moore, was born and died Sunday, Sept. 18, at Unity Health Center.

Clifford Hubbard

Clifford Hubbard Shawnee resident Clifford Hubbard, 72, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, at a local nursing home.
He was born April 11, 1933, in Seminole County to Milton and Verna (Stewart) Hubbard. He attended Prairie Valley schools and moved to Pottawatomie County in 1946.

On Aug. 18, 1950, he married Louise Padgett in Seminole.

He was a truck driver for Bodard and Hale Oil Company for 33 years. He was a member of Romulus Pentecostal Holiness Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Lee Roy, Johnny Lee, Eldon Lloyd and Billy J. Hubbard; and one son, Clifford Lee Hubbard.

Victor H. Rushing

Shawnee resident Victor H. Rushing, 80, died Sunday, Sept. 18, at Oklahoma Veterans Center in Norman.

He was born Sept. 6, 1925, in Shawnee to Ernest Rushing and Mae (Robison) Rushing.

He received his GED after returning home from the war. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a tail gunner in a dive bomber off the USS Saratoga Aircraft Carrier in the Pacific.

On Aug. 30, 1943, he married Rebecca Chambers in Shawnee. They were married 62 years.

He worked for Rock Island Railroad for 23 years as an agent telegrapher. He later worked for the Association of American Railroads in Houston, Texas, for 16 years, where he retired. Upon retirement he returned to Shawnee, where he spent the last years of his life.

He was of the Baptist faith as well as a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, walking and playing with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca, of the home; one son; James Rushing and wife, Karen, of El Reno; one daughter, Vicki Trent and husband, John, of New Orleans, La.; five grandchildren, Jason Trent and wife, Teri, of Kansas City, Mo., Daron Trent and wife, Traci, of Lawrence, Kan., Dori Kelly and husband, Frank, of Dublin, Ireland, Tara Rushing of Oklahoma City and Lance Rushing of El Reno; two great-grandchildren, Carson Trent of Kansas City and Julien Kelly of Dublin, Ireland, two brothers, Ernest and Florence Rushing of Daytona, Fla., and Richard Rushing of Lancaster, Calif.; one sister, Muriel Cleary of Novi, Mich.; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Gene Norton of Shawnee; and several nieces and nephews.

Earl Rowe

Tecumseh resident Earl Rowe, 87, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, in Shawnee.

He was born July 23, 1918, in Loco, Okla., to Howard Earl and Josephine Rowe. He attended and graduated school at Velma.

On June 29, 1945, he married Zelda Lou Hallum. She preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 1988. He then married Loretta F. Butler on Jan. 17, 1991. She preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 2002.

Earl was a member of Highland Church of Christ; a Mason for more than 50 years; a Shriner; and a member of Pipefitters Local 198, Baton Rouge, La., for more than 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Juhree Rowe DeLaney.

Survivors include two sisters, Frieda Tarbox of Tecumseh and Pauline Campbell of Duncan; several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Bob Anderson and Roy Fountain officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Agnes Hurst

Meeker resident Agnes Hurst died Tuesday, Sept. 20, in Shawnee at the age of 87.

Agnes was born on Jan. 1, 1918, in Choctaw to Hiram A. and Lillie (Claypool) Fowler.

On Dec. 4, 1941, she married William Hershel Hurst in Cucamonga, Calif.

Agnes was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Chandler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler with the Rev. Dale Carney officiating.

Shawnee resident Floyd O. Bailey, 86, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, at his home.

He was born Feb. 13, 1919, in Quay to William H. and Mable G. (McCaslin) Bailey. He was reared and educated in various Oklahoma towns and graduated from Quay High School.

He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served during World War II on various carriers including the McKenzie. He was discharged in 1945.

On May 12, 1965, he married Betty Foster in New Mexico. Floyd worked as a maintenance supervisor for Allen Bradley from April 9, 1973, until his retirement June 30, 1984. He also worked for Bell Telephone, Girl's Town in Tecumseh and Corning, along with farming.

He lived in Shawnee for 38 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jack Bailey; and one daughter, Judy Bailey.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Bailey, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Jon Dees of Tulsa and Carol Sue and Bill Inman of Depew; three stepsons and their wives, Jack and Myra Gordon of Tulsa, Dwayne and Janet Scott and Darrell and Shelly Scott, all of White Oak, Texas; 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Sally A. White

Seminole resident Sally A. White, 71, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 21, at her home.
She was born January 28, 1934, in Seminole to George and Gladys Hazel (Merriott) Hines.

She graduated from Seminole High School in 1952.

She was married July 17, 1953, at the First Baptist Church in Seminole to Paul White.

She was a member of the Seminole Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder, a member of the ESA sorority, member and delegate of the Republican Party, volunteer at Jasmine Moran Children's Museum, bridge club and Oklahoma Federation of Republic Women's Club.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Paul White of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Linda White of Plano, Texas, and Mark and Lori White of Shawnee; one daughter and son-in-law, Paula and James Cook of Shawnee; one brother and sister-in-law, Billy George and Suzi Hines of Eufaula; ten grandchildren; Windy Muelheisen, Jennifer, Jamie and Jill Smart, Blake and Kolby White, and Jeff, Sean, Chase, and Mikey White; and two great-grandchildren, Andy and Brooklyn White.

Seminole resident Joan Ringwald, 75, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
She was born May 2, 1930 in Walters to George B. Mooney and Ruth Mildred Simmons-Mooney.

She was raised in and attended school in the Tecumseh and Shawnee areas. She worked for 25 years as a civil servant for the U.S. Government before retiring. She enjoyed family, children and friends every day. She always received the most satisfaction when giving to others throughout her life. She will continue giving in death through medical research. She was married to Bill Upton for 18 years. They parented three children, Steve, Mike and Julie. She later married Jake Ringwald. She and Jake parented one child, Patti Ringwald.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister and brother-in-law, Rosalie and Mac McDonald; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Bruce Mooney and Eva Mooney, Dennis Mooney and Dan Mooney.

Survivors include two sons, Steve Upton and Mike Upton; two daughters, Julie Petty and Patti Ringwald; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Ramada Inn in Shawnee located at 4900 N. Harrison, Shawnee.

Shawnee resident, Preston Abbott, 88, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, Sept. 20, at his home.
He was born Jan. 3, 1917, in Ada, to Noah Lee Abbott and Mary Elizabeth (Corvin) Abbott.

He was married to Georgia Wornock in December of 1938 in Seminole.

He served in the United States Army during World War II in France and Germany and received the Purple Heart as well as other decorations. Preston had worked in the oil and gas pipeline business but spent 35 years with Independent Tank Co. in Seminole as a welder. He was a member of D.A.V. and Oak Park Church of God.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Mable Abbott; two brothers, Frank and Claude Abbott; one sister, Marie Shaw, and one grandson Jeff Bise.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Abbott of the home; four children, Lavon Sanders and Kenneth of Shawnee, Joyce Smith of Tulsa, Mary Bise and Kenneth of Achille, and David Abbott and Elaine of Tecumseh; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Estell Kruger of Calif.; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Shawnee resident Thomas Lee "Tommy" Fisher, 71, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, in Shawnee after a long courageous battle with cancer.
He was born July 17, 1934, in Bearden to John A. and Susanna (Little) Fisher.

He was married to Betty Fisher. She preceded him in death in 1994.

He was a resident of "The Towers" in Shawnee. He worked locally and in Hutchinson, Kan. for a bakery, a sports arena and in flour mills. He later became self-employed. Tommy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tecumseh. He loved to bargain.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Jack, Melford, Jimmy, Billy and James and a sister, Essie (Fisher) Neeley.

Survivors include his brother, Kenneth Fisher of Shawnee; three children, Tommy Lee Fisher Jr., Terry Armstrong, and JoBeth Combs; and several grandchildren.

Beulah Leoma "Pete" (Trimble) Hibben

Shawnee resident Beulah Leoma "Pete" (Trimble) Hibben, 86, passed away Thursday, Sept. 22.
She was born Dec. 24, 1918, in Brooken to Thomas Austin Trimble and Mandue Belle (La Ferry) Trimble.

She was married to T.D. Hibben on June 18, 1936. They have lived in Shawnee since 1943 and were members of the Oklahoma Bluegrass Club.

Leoma was a homemaker and longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Shawnee.

Survivors include, her husband, T.D. Hibben of the home; one son Tommy Hibben and wife, Kathy, of Shawnee; three daughters, Joan Williams of Meeker, Mary Rhodes and husband, Don, of Shawnee and Patsy and Grant Rhodes of Stratford; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

There will be no services. Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, at Gaskill Funeral Home.

Former Shawnee and Tecumseh area resident J.B. "Jack" Lewis, 76, passed away Tuesday, September 20th, in Del City.
He was born in St. Louis, OK, on April 27, 1929, the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Mary L. (Edgemon) Lewis.

Raised in the Shawnee & Tecumseh area, he served his country in the U.S. Navy.

Jack and his wife Betty started a life long career together working in the oil field industry in Oklahoma, Colorado, Louisiana, South America, Utah and then back home to Oklahoma.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Betty Jo Lewis, parents, two sisters & four brothers.

Survivors include his son, Mike Lewis and wife, Sherry, their children, D.J. Dortha Jewel Welch

Shawnee resident Dortha Jewel Welch, 94, died Friday, Sept. 23 at an Oklahoma City hospital.

She was born July 1, 1911 in Prague to Ira and Samantha (Wood) Broyles.

She married Emmitt Frank Welch November 28, 1928.

She owned and operated the Fashion Shop in Shawnee and owned rental properties. She also helped her husband operate a dairy farm for many years.

She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America.

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Velma Markwell, Opal Dukes and Lola Smith; grandsons, Michael Joseph Kuhn and Gregory Michael Welch; and granddaughters, Julie Marie Welch and Dorthy Ellen Kuhn.

Survivors include several children, Norma Burton of Oklahoma City, Dorthy Blackwood and husband, Charles, of Oklahoma City, Bud Welch and wife, Lois, of Oklahoma, Gloria Murphy and husband, Bill, of Richardson, Texas, Gerald Kelcy of Oklahoma City, Frank Welch and wife, Becky, of Oklahoma City, Kathy Robins of Shawnee and Mike Welch of Oklahoma City; sisters, Bernice Parrot and Pansy Smith; brother, Lincoln Broyles; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mabel Lee Borden Chancellor

Mabel Lee Borden Chancellor, 98, of Shawnee passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, at a local hospital.

She was born March 30, 1907, in Gentry, Ark., to Luther Weir and Margaret "Maggie" Delano Boren Borden. They settled east of Shawnee on the North Canadian River when she was 1 year old.

In 1919, they moved to the Bethel area, where she spent most of her life.

She married Orville "Buck" Chancellor April 2, 1926, in Tecumseh. He preceded her in death Jan. 18, 1986.

Mabel was the cook and cafeteria manager for Bethel schools from 1954 to 1978. She loved to cook and there were always friends and family stopping for breakfast and coffee and guests for Sunday lunch.

She could always be counted on to bring a special cake or dish to neighbors who lost loved ones.

Mabel was a founding member of Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church, where she taught Primary Department Sunday school for many years and served as church treasurer. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Shawnee and a member of Lydia Sunday school class.

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; four brothers and sisters and a stillborn son.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Levon and Carolyn Chancellor of Shawnee; one grandson, James Gregory Chancellor and wife, Lorrie, of Shawnee; granddaughters, Cathy Lee Hentschel and husband, Stuart, of Austin, Texas, Christa Lynn Short and husband, Luke, of Norman; great-grandchildren, Shandee Smith, Anna Grace Hentschel and Ella Carolyn Hentschel; three sisters-in-law Ora Chancellor, Dorothy Dunkin of Shawnee and Ima Borden of Fresno, Calif.; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Nancy "Faye" Price

Nancy "Faye" Price passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, in Oklahoma City.
She was born Jan. 20, 1916, in Chalk Mountain, Texas, to Jacob Lane and Marguriete Vivian (Stasey) Lindsey.

She was married Aug. 7, 1933, in Blackwell to Eugene Leonard "Gene" Price. The couple moved to Seminole in 1939 from Blackwell.

Faye was a member of the First Christian Church in Seminole where she was a Sunday school teacher years ago. She also was a member of home demonstration club, Seminole square dance club and the Central District square dance club in Oklahoma City.

She was preceded in death by both parents; her husband; seven beloved sisters, Juanita, Inez, Pat, Beaulah, Louise, Mabel and LaWanda; and a treasured son-in-law Wilburn "Terry" Hawes.

Betty Jean Gober

Shawnee resident Betty Jean Gober, 75, died Saturday, Sept. 24, at a local hospital.
She was born July 13, 1930, in Shawnee to David A. and Mildred Z. (Slavich) Brown.

She was raised in and attended school in California and Oklahoma.

She was married to Oliver Quentin Gober for 37 years before his death in 1995.

She was a wife and homemaker and enjoyed going to the senior center and visiting with her friends. She attended Rock Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a number of brothers-in-law, three nieces, two uncles, two aunts and one cousin.

Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Stan Kroeling of Shawnee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dave and Virginia Brown of Albany, Ore., Bill Brown of Sapulpa, Robert and Elaine Brown of Shawnee and Richard and Linda Brown of Shawnee; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and a host of friends. She is also survived by her special friend, Frank Freeman.

Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Richard Zimmerman officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Ray McElroy

Seminole resident Ray McElroy, 83, died Saturday, Sept. 24, at Seminole Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 5, 1921, in Weleetka to Frank Garrison and Flora Marcella (Sims) McElroy.

On Jan. 9, 1947, he married Frances (Cornett) in Yuma Ariz.

Ray was a member of the Church of Christ in Seminole and was a former mason. He was a tech sergeant serving in Gen. Patton's Army at the Battle of the Bulge, where he performed heroically earning several medals including the Bronze Star. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and will be greatly missed by family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, one brother and a grandson.

Survivors include his wife, Frances McElroy of the home; four daughters, Nancy Riley of Fond Du Lac, Wis., Diana Cook of Iowa City, Iowa, Joanne and husband, David Kiker, of Placitas, N.M., and Kathy and husband, Roy Kommel, of Atwater, Ohio; one son, Gary and wife, Charlotte, of Midlothian, Texas; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Chris Stinnett officiating. Service will conclude at the chapel. He will be laid to rest at Little Cemetery in Seminole County.

Memorials may be made to the Hope Harbor Children's Home, P.O. Box 1047, Claremore, Oklahoma 74018.

Marie Cecilia (Obsivac) Bartosh

Marie Cecilia (Obsivac) Bartosh was born on Sept. 1, 1912, in Econtuscka and departed this life on Sunday, Sept. 25, in Prague at the age of 93.
Marie, the daughter of Michael and Cecilia Agnes (Kuban) Obsivac, was a lifelong resident of Prague. On Aug. 22, 1934, she married Ernest Bartosh in Prague. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1999.

Marie was a homemaker and a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Prague.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Ernest Marion Bartosh; three brothers, and two sisters.

Surviviors include sons and daughters-in-law, David and Paula Bartosh of Prague, Lee Roy and Peggy Bartosh of Prague, and C. Leon Bartosh of Detroit, Mich.; daughters, Marie Cecilia King of Kansas City, Mo., and Marguerita Ann Warren of Prague; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A wake service will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Prague with the Rev. Adrian Vorderlandwehr, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will follow at the Catholic Cemetery in Prague.

Pall bearers will be Marie's grandsons, Ernest, Keith, David, Noel and Joel Bartosh and Eric Bailey.

Merle Price

Funeral services for Oather Merlin "Merle" Price, 46, were held Sunday, Sept. 25, in Elk City. Son-in-law, Melvin Giles, officiated the ceremony of family and close friends.
Merle died Wednesday, Sept. 21, at his home in Elk City. He was born the baby of 10 children on Nov. 22, 1958, to O.J. and Ethel Price in Shawnee and lived here until his marriage to Vicki Montgomery on July 2, 1986. He spent many years traveling the United States working on towers. He leaves behind many friends he made along the way. He is best remembered for his compassion for humanity and for his love for knowledge, often referred to as a "walking encyclopedia."

Merle was preceded in death by his parents.

He leaves behind three daughters and sons-in-law, Talisha and Joey Moore of Cooper, Texas, Kimberly and Melvin Giles of Alabama and Melissa and Jeremy Briscoe of Elk City; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Johnny and Charlotte Price, Coy and Carol Price, and Chester and Jamie Price, all of Shawnee; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Lynda Lupton and Bob Botkin of Tecumseh, Carolyn Wells of Oklahoma City, Ruth and Ron Crews, Shirley Doyle and Janice Tyler, all of Shawnee; Betty Jo and Gene Driskill of Midwest City.

Whinery Savage Funeral Home was in charge of services. Burial was in Sayre-Doxey Cemetery, Elk City.

Zacharias "Zac" Abraham Copley, 21, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, in a motorcycle accident.

Longtime Seminole resident, Daisy Lorene Mayfield, 87, died Sunday, Sept. 18, in The Woodlands, Texas.

Freda Fern Tinker

Former Shawnee resident Freda Tinker, 77, passed away Friday, Sept. 23, in Seneca, S.C.
She was born June 11, 1928, in Shawnee to Oather and Cora (Daley) McMahan. She was reared in the Shawnee area and attended Bethel Schools.

She retired from Alascom Telephone Company and she was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose for 32 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Tinker; her parents; and brothers, Everett, Bert, Ralph, Claude, and Cecil McMahan; and her beloved sister, Artie Estes.

Survivors include her five daughters, Beverly Henderson and Wanda Garber both of Seneca, S. C., Judy Akerman of Shawnee; Betty Petersen of Anchorage, Alaska, and Wendy Newsom of Marion, Ark; 16 grandchildren, local area grandchildren are, Cindy Drummonds of Shawnee, Ginger McLaughlin of Prague, Trey Hudson of Shawnee and former area resident Robin Curley. In addition, she had 31 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Kenneth McMahan of Washington and Ray McMahan of California.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Seneca, South Carolina.

Arrangements are under the direction of Seneca Mortuary in Seneca, South Carolina.

Mark Alan Whitley

St. Louis resident Mark Alan Whitley, 44, died Saturday, Sept. 24, in Oklahoma City.
He was born July 5, 1961, in Shawnee to Robert Lee and Belva Jean (Brown) Whitley. He was reared in Pearson.

He attended St. Louis grade school and high school at Asher and Maud. He graduated from Maud High School in 1979. He then attended St. Gregory's College, Seminole Junior College and East Central University.

In April 1988, he married Debra Hoover in Shawnee.

He owned and operated One Stop Kountry Store at the McComb Y for the past 18 years.

He enjoyed being a father to his daughter and was an avid coin collector.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Whitley of the home; his daughter, Megan Whitley of the home; his parents, Robert and Belva Whitley of Pearson; one sister and brother-in-law, Jana and Russ Skinner of Norman; one niece, Maris Skinner of Norman; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Glen Peck, the Rev. Darrell Witten and the Rev. William Browning officiating. Burial will follow at the Romulus Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh.

Delmer Eugene Woods

Shawnee resident Delmer Eugene Woods, 81, died Monday, Sept. 26, at Alterra Assisted Living Center in Shawnee.
He was born April 17, 1924, in Shawnee the son of Thomas J. Woods and Edith (Brown) Woods.

He joined the military on his 18th birthday and served three years in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater receiving two Purple Hears as well as other decorations. After being honorably discharged, he married Garaldine "Jerry" Collins on May 3, 1946, in Shawnee. They had been married for 59 years. Mr. Woods worked in construction, was owner and operator of a trucking company and was a rancher. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 1317 and enjoyed traveling and visiting relatives.

He preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Edith Woods.

Survivors include his wife, Jerry Woods of the home; three children, Mark Woods of Shawnee, David Woods and wife, Beth, of Moreno Valley, Calif., Marty Greene and husband, Doyle, of Concord, Calif.; grandchildren, Matt, Jason and Nickolas Woods, Amelia Woods and Brett Greene; two great-grandchildren, Brooke and Nate Greene; and one sister, Roma Gray of Visalia, Calif..

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with Hugh Willoby officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Carolyn "Kandy" Talamasey

Seminole resident, Carolyn "Kandy" Talamasey, 57, died Saturday Sept. 24, in Seminole.
Services were 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Sand Creek Eufuala Baptist Church with Houston Tiger, Mike Harjo, and Dorsey Nero officiating. Burial was at Talamasey Family Cemetery East of Bowlegs under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Former Shawnee resident Caleb Daniel Lyon, 24, died Saturday, Sept. 24, in Lafayette, La.
He was born Feb. 7, 1981, in Shawnee to Ron and Elizabeth Lyon.

Survivors include his father, Ron Lyon of New Orleans, La.; mother, Elizabeth Lyon of Lawrence, Kan.; brothers, Taylor Lyon of New Orleans, La.; Aaron Lyon of Albuquerque, N.M.; and sister Jordan Lyon of Fort Scott, Kan.
