Gregg Coker

Lifelong Wanette resident Gregg Coker, 57, died Saturday, Aug. 27, in Oklahoma City.
He was born Mar. 23, 1948, in Shawnee to Calvin G. and Juanita Christine (Jenkins) Coker.

He was a 1966 graduate of Wanette High School and attended Oklahoma State University. He was the Agricultural Program Manager for the Division of Meat Inspection with the Department of Agriculture for the State of Oklahoma.

Gregg was a 32nd Degree Mason and a lifetime member of the NRA. He was a fisherman, enjoyed the outdoors, stamp collecting and gourmet cooking.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his mother, Juanita Coker of Wanette; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Glenda and David Powell of Denver, Colo. and Gail and Dick Baldwin of Las Vegas, Nev.; one niece, Sarah Elizabeth Powell; one nephew, Lucas David Powell; and numerous extended family members.

Service with be 10 a.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Howse, III, officiating. Burial to follow at Wanette Cemetery.

Harrah resident Janas Ann Kirby died Tuesday, Aug. 30, in Harrah at the age of 65.

A.T. Sales

Tecumseh resident A.T. Sales, 75, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, in Tecumseh.
He was born Jan. 14, 1930, in Wanette to Irving H. and Susan Lillian (Bates) Sales.

Sales served in the U.S. Marines from 1952 to 1954.

He was married Oct. 14, 1950, in Oklahoma City to Audrey Metcalf. He was raised in Asher and lived in Shawnee and Perkins from 1954 until 1983 when he moved to Tecumseh. He worked as an electrician for Brown and Root Electric. He also had worked in California, Utah, Tennessee and Arizona. He enjoyed bowling and golfing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ann Huckaby and brother, Perry White.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Lori Sales of Perkins; two daughters and one son-in-law, Cathy and Dan Hilgert of Stonewall and Debbie Sales of Tecumseh; two grandchildren, Jeremy T. Williams and Jeffrey Adam Sales; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Charles and Boneta Sales of Earlsboro and Oliver White of Vinita; sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Bun Newby of McLoud; sister-in-law, Fay White of North Carolina; numerous other relatives and friends.

Service will be 10 a.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mark Guinn officiating. Burial will be at Wanette Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Ronald Gene Tappe

Longtime Prague resident Ronald Gene Tappe, 57, died Wednesday, Aug. 31 in Prague.
He was born Dec. 2, 1947, in Oklahoma City to Harry John, Jr. and Rita Theresa (Ast) Tappe.

He married Kathleen Boman on Aug. 25, 1978, in Shawnee. He was a farmer and a rancher.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Survivors include; his wife, Kathleen; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Brian and Tiffany Tappe of Burnet, Texas, and Matthew Alan Tappe of Prague; daughter and son-in-law, Christina Dawn and John Smith of Shawnee; brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Kathy Tappe of Shawnee, and Harold and Margie Tappe of Prague; a brother-in-law, Tom Thomas of Yorkville, N.Y.; three grandchildren; one aunt, Rosemary Tappe of Prague; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with Bro. Paul Heard officiating. Burial will be at the Catholic Cemetery in Prague under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.

Ada Mae Currie

Shawnee resident Ada Mae Currie, 91, departed for heaven Wednesday, Aug. 31.
She was born Oct. 9, 1913, northwest of Shawnee to Willie and Lily May (Guisinger) Gentry.

She graduated from Dale Schools and attended OCW at Chickasha. She was a dairy farmer and a member of Dale United Methodist Church and the Broken Needle Friendship Club.

She married John Henry Currie Jan. 31, 1935.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 brothers and a sister.

Survivors include; two daughters and one son-in-law, Charlotte Inlow and Betty and Lonnie Shanks; one son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Russell and Joann Currie; and two sisters-in-law, Sarah Gentry and Mary, all of Shawnee; five grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Dale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Russell Currie officiating, assisted by the Rev. Doug Parker. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Delia May Young Castle

Delia May Young Castle, 91, of Premont, Texas, died Monday, Aug. 29, in Georgetown Texas.
She was born May 8, 1914, in Tecumseh to Vernon Earnest Young and Mary Adelia Lloyd Young of Tecumseh.

She was a longtime resident of the Premont Nursing Home in Premont, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Lawrence Castle and daughter, Betty Castle Hamilton.

Survivors include; one daughter, Barbara Castle Henderson of Round Rock, Texas; two granddaughters and sons-in-law Marcy and Gil Nunez of Georgetown, Texas, and Marla and Matt Trlica of Austin, Texas; one niece Jean Young Higley of Amarillo, Texas; one nephew, James M. Young of Shawnee; and four great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Charles E. Barnard

Shawnee resident Charles E. Barnard, 60, passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, at an Oklahoma City hospital.
He was born Dec. 28, 1944, in Houston, Texas, to Alfred Lesley Barnard and Vera (Massengill) Barnard. He attended school in Texas.

He was married Dec. 22, 2003, in Montana to Eunice Cude.

Charles worked as a stocker at Wal-Mart and was an artist. He served in the U.S. Navy and lived in Texas most his life. He has lived in Shawnee for the past year.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice, of the home; son, Carl Barnard of Pasadena, Texas; two daughters, Felicia Birdsall of Baytown, Texas, and Mary Sellers of Crosby, Texas; step-daughter, Grace Green of Shawnee; four grandchildren, Brandon Sellers, Alyssa Sellers, Jessica Barnard and Marilyn Thompson; one sister, Katherine; a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at the Chapel of Walker Funeral Service with the Rev. Bryan Cook officiating. Arrangements are being directed by Walker Funeral Home.

Peggy Sue (Barnard) Taylor

Shawnee resident Peggy Sue (Barnard) Taylor, 56, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Unity North in Shawnee.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Assembly of God in Bowlegs with the Rev. Roy Robertson officiatin. Burial will be at Calvery Cemetery in Shawnee under the direction of Swearingen Furneral Home of Seminole.

Earnest J. Sanders

Oklahoma City resident Earnest J. Sanders, 64, died Thursday, Sept. 1, in Oklahoma City.
He was born Nov. 25, 1940, in Lebanon, Mo., to Earnest Verden and Juanita (Walkin) Sanders.

He grew up in Oklahoma City, Shawnee, and Tecumseh.

On April 22, 1960, he married Terri Carter. After living in Shawnee for 12 years, the two moved to Columbia, Tenn., where they lived for seven years. In 1997, they returned to Oklahoma City.

He worked for Sonic for 15 years, owned and operated a window cleaning service and for the last five years had driven a school bus for Moore Public Schools.

He was a member of the Shawnee Elks Lodge and of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed fishing and attending OU football and Oklahoma City RedHawks baseball games.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Survivors include his wife, Terri, of the home; two sons, and one daughter-in-law, Jerry and Crystal Sanders of Pelbam, Ala., and Richard Sanders of Culleoka, Tenn.; one daughter, Darla Vaughn of Midwest City; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Linda Degraffenreid, Johnny and Becky Degraffenreid and Denver and Betty Jo Degraffenreid; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Dale Stewart and Betty Mae and Danny West; mother-in-law, Geneva Lofties; sister-in-law and spouse, Reta and Jack Barton; and brother-in-law and spouse, Ricky and Jan Smith.

Dorothy M. Stevens

Lifelong Shawnee resident Dorothy M. Stevens, 78, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, in Oklahoma City.
Dorothy was born Sept. 7, 1926, in Shawnee to Thomas and Lena (Reed) Hood. She was graduate of Shawnee High School and attended Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech, where she earned her LPN. She worked for many years at Shawnee Regional Hospital.

She married Houston Stevens.

Dorothy was a member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Patricia Ellen Stevens; two sons, Justin Frank Stevens and Preston Jan Stevens; brothers, Thomas B. Hood Jr. and Warren Hood; and sisters, Gladys Hood, Agnes Mack and Verna Lee McPherson.

Survivors include her husband, Houston Stevens of Shawnee; two sons, Houston Stevens Jr. of Shawnee and Laurence P. Stevens of the home.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Tecumseh Cemetery with George Blanchard officiating.

Avis Melson

Chandler resident Avis Melson, 93, died Friday, Sept. 2, in Chandler.
She was born June 15, 1912, in Chandler to William C. and Mary E. (Cobey) Holman.

On Oct. 15, 1930, she married Homer Lee Taylor in Okemah. He passed away in 1947, and she married John Melson on March 8, 1952, in Stillwater.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Chandler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, six brothers and one grandson.

She is survived by two daughters, Joann Shafer of Chandler and Mary Sue Harris of Tulsa; one sister, Mabel Ray of Paden; and one brother, Ray Holman of Okemah; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

A prayer vigil will by held 7 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Sorrow Catholic Church in Chandler.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Sorrow Catholic Church with the Rev. Jim Mickus officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Park Cemetery.

Arrangements will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.

Shawnee resident James Daniel "Jim" Wells died Friday, Sept. 2, in a local hospital at the age of 60.
Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Shawnee resident Chester (C.R.) Dibler died Thursday, Sept. 1, at the age of 90.

Chester Dibler

Shawnee resident Chester (C.R.) Dibler, passed from this life Thursday, Sept. 1, at the age of 90.
He was born May, 16, 1915, in Wellston to Dave and Pearl (Hallman) Dibler.

He joined the U.S. Air Force on March 8, 1944, a year prior to the nuclear attacks which led to Japan's surrender just six days after the bombings at Hiroshima. Fort Sill was his place of entry into the service. He was on a train heading to Seattle to set sail for Guam. He received word from a general while on the train. He was glad the war was going to be over.

Prior to the train to Seattle and subsequent duty in Guam, Dibler spent time in Arkansas, Georgia and California preparing him for the war. He was assigned to the Aviation Utility Department. He was a heavy duty equipment operator and built roads, landing strips and other projects in the Pacific Theater. He sailed to Guam from Seattle shortly after the United States had taken over the South Pacific Country.

Dibler's time in the service yielded several ribbons and medals. He proudly showed his World War II Victory Ribbon, along with his Good Conduct medal, American Theater and Pacific Theater ribbons.

He and his wife, Hazel (Searcy) Dibler, were married in Shawnee at the county courthouse on Feb. 10, 1936. They were sweethearts for 69 1/2 years.

Dibler was a farmer in Lincoln County before going to work at Tinker Air Force Base in 1948. He retired from Tinker in 1973. He then worked for Vandeveer Oil Co. for 13 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Dennis Ragsdale; three brothers, Ernest, Elsie and Cecil Dibler; and two sisters, Lela Pallan and Hazel Thompson.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel (Searcy) Dibler of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Paula Dibler of Shawnee; three daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Nick Radford of Glenpool, Norma and Curtis Watson of Shawnee and Dorothy and Dickie Herron of Shawnee; 13 grandchildren and their spouses; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, J.B. and Sue Dibler of Oklahoma City; one sister and brother-in-law, Nadine and Oscar Newman of Oklahoma City; six sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, Bernice and Stella Quinn, Anna Belle Owen, Veda and Joe Dodson, Willie Johnson, Darlene Boyd, Elmer and Rosie Searcy, Herman and Carol Searcy and Edward and Reba Searcy; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Parks Brothers Funeral Home, 1405 W. Main, Prague.

Betty Jean Wiley

Betty Jean Wiley, 75, Meeker, died Friday, Sept. 2, in Shawnee.
She was born May 12, 1930, in Rossville, Okla., the daughter of Wallace D. and Virgie Cornelia (Honeycutt) Armitage.

She married Gilbert Wiley on Jan. 24, 1947, in Lincoln County. He preceded her in death in 1999. She was a homemaker.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, one sister; one daughter, Linda Guptill; son-in-law, Michael Austin and granddaughter Barbara Guptill.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Louis and Bonnie Wiley of Meeker; daughters and son-in-law, Loretta and Michael Baptista of Meeker and Debra Austin of Meeker; son-in-law, Richard Guptill of Shawnee; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. today at Morning Star Baptist Church in Meeker with the Rev. Glen White officiating. Burial will follow at Rossville Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Meeker.

Agnes Starkey

Agnes "Granny" Starkey, 88, McLoud, died Saturday, Sept. 3, at a local hospital.
She was born Feb. 12, 1917, in Stuart and attended Gerty School. She was active in the First Baptist Church of McLoud and was head of the child care area for 27 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E.L. Starkey; son, Bobby Starkey; two brothers and one sister.

Surviving are five children and spouses, Betty and Ray Hawthorne of McLoud, Dee and Rita Starkey of Oaks, Richard and Sonja Starkey of McLoud, Carol Starkey Nichols of Shawnee and Donna Starkey and husband Jerry of McLoud; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, many nieces, nephews, a church family and many friends. Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at First Baptist Church in McLoud. Walker Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Ralph Wesley Ward

Ralph Wesley Ward, 69, of Pea Ridge, Ark., passed away Sept. 1 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Mo.
Ward was born Oct. 29, 1935, in Konawa, the son of William Ralph and Agnes Morene Hankins Ward.

Ward was a Southern Baptist minister. He ministered in Redlands, Alameda and Orange, Calif., and Vamoosa, Okla.

He also worked many years as a manager for General Electric in California. He was very active in the Southern Baptist Convention. He is preceded in death by his father, William Ralph Ward, and his stepfather, Robert Mocabee.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Clark Ward, of the home. They were married Sept. 11, 1959, in El Soboante, Calif.; two sons, Dale Ward of Rogers, Ark., and Bruce Ward of Bentonville, Ark.; one daughter, Marina Buttry of Pea Ridge, Ark.; his mother, Agnes Mocabee of Pea Ridge, Ark.; two sisters, Delores Meade of Glendale, Calif., and Joyce Ward of Bentonville, Ark.; his stepbrother, George Mocabee of Lavern, Calif.; two grandchildren, Ashlyn Kalies and Lance Buttry; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Benton County Funeral Home in Rogers, Ark., with the Rev. Mitch Williams officiating. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. Fourth St., Rogers, Ark., and burial in the Bentonville Cemetery, Bentonville, Ark.

Faye G. Lewellen, 87, of Oklahoma City died Thursday, Sept. 1, at a Warr Acres Nursing Center.

Tyler DeWayne Smith

Shawnee resident Tyler DeWayne Smith, 18, departed this life on Monday, Sept. 5, in Oklahoma City
He was born on April 19, 1987, in Shawnee to Jerry DeWayne and Jeanette Lynn (Powell) Smith.

Tyler lived most of his life in Prague. He graduated with the Prague High School class of 2005 where he was very active in agriculture and played basketball. His achievements in FFA included Officer Team for 4 years, showed cattle numerous times, National Bronze Star for Agri-Science, State Farm degree, DeKalp Award his senior year, livestock judging team at Murray State College, and a full scholarship to Murray State. Tyler was a member of the First Baptist Church in Prague.

Survivors include his parents, Jerry and Jeanette Smith of Prague; sister, Kristen Smith of the home; grandparents, Ron and Karen Smith of Tecumseh and Tom and Willa Powell of Shawnee; great-grandparents, Reba Childers of Bethel and Allin Fallin of Bethel.

Harry Richard Sr.

Shawnee resident Harry Richard Sr., 79, died Monday, Sept. 5, at his home.
He was born Oct. 2, 1925, in Oil City, Pa., to Adam John Richard and Ada Bell (Allshouse) Richard.

He graduated Oil City High School in Pennsylvania and served in the U.S Navy for 25 years, retiring as a naval officer. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Pacific Theater of Operation and Korea. Harry also worked for General Dynamics in Ft. Worth and also C.R Anthony.

He married Helen Maxey, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 28, 1982 he married Tokee Lacey in Shawnee.

He was a member of Northridge Church of Christ and a 32nd degree Mason at Shawnee Composit Lodge # 107.

Survivors include; his wife Tokee of the home; son and daughter-in-law Harry Richard Jr. and Roberta Richard of Edna, Texas; step-children Mike and Carolyn Lacey of Muskogee, Sharon Lacey of Tecumseh, Linda Lacey of Shawnee and Michael and Jan Tupps of Tulsa; grandchildren Chris and Jenny Richard and Buddy Winterowd; step-grandchildren Frankie Fitch, Donna Johnson, Laurel and Sean McCullar, Chris and Gina Ross, Jonathan Ross, Ryan Tupps, Jennifer Anderson; great-grandchildren, Skye, Adam and Chloe Richard, Jake, Will and Same McCullar, Gage Ross, Ricky and Rusty Johnson, Michael Tillman, Angela Lowe and Micki Matthews.

Guy D. Siler

Macomb resident Guy D. Siler, 75, died Sunday, Sept. 4, in Shawnee.
He was born Dec. 4, 1929, in Moore to Earl Maynard and Lula Johnie (Routon) Siler.

He grew up in Moore and Oklahoma City and moved to Tecumseh in 1961.

He was married Jan. 4, 1957, in Gainesville, Texas, to Georgia Wellman. She preceded him in death on Aug. 13, 1999. He later married Norma McMillian on July 30, 2002.

He owned and operated Siler Dairy for many years. He was a past member of the Macomb Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed raising his cattle and attending auctions in his spare time.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Tyson Siler and one sister, Minnie Lou Matthesen.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Siler of the home; children and their spouses, Wayne and Ruby Rath of Macomb, Carrie and Frank Bourlon of Macomb and Bill and Barbara Siler of Macomb; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack Siler of Landers, Wyo., and Bill Siler of Harrah and one sister, Betty Siler of Oklahoma City.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Anna Jantz officiating. Burial will be at Prairie View Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Richard E. Holland

Bethel Acres resident Richard E. Holland, 73, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, in Bethel Acres after a brave four-and-a-half-year struggle with lymphoma and leukemia.
He was born April 15, 1932, in Skagg City, Okla., to William Marion and Inez (Sweaney) Holland.

He was reared in the Tecumseh area and was a lifelong resident of Pottawatomie County. He attended Tecumseh Schools. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea.

He was married Oct. 18, 1952, in Arkansas to Dorothy Duncan.

He served 20 years with the Shawnee Police Department. He then worked with the Tecumseh Police Department for 20 years where he served as Police Chief for 17. He was a member of the Tecumseh American Legion Hill-Huett Post #260, the First Baptist Church of Tecumseh for 61 years, the Shawnee Odd Fellow Lodge #55 and the Sheriff and Peace Officers Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ruby V. Holland, and one brother, Marion B. Holland.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Holland of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna Kay and Ralph Carpenter of Bethel; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael Ray and Terry Holland of McLoud and William M. Holland of Tecumseh; six grandchildren, Brian Rose of McLoud, Erick Rose of Holdenville, William B. Holland of Tecumseh, Nicholas A. Holland of Tecumseh, Kelly Ann Holland of Missouri and Tyler Holland of Missouri and one brother, Donald Eugene Holland of Del City.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Tecumseh with the Rev. W.F. Crow and Dr. Tim Walker officiating. A private committal will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

The casket will remain open until service time and will not be reopened following the service.

Eva Lena Chlouber

Shawnee resident Eva Lena Chlouber, 98, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, at a local hospital.
She was born Nov. 4, 1906, in Nocona, Texas, to William Elijah and Louina B. (Templeton) Holmes. She graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City.

On Jan. 12, 1929, she married Edwin Arthur Chlouber in Shawnee where the couple made their home. Mrs. Chlouber had worked for Southwestern Bell and had worked at many jewelry stores in Shawnee. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she taught 4th grade Sunday School and was a member of the W.M.U.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald Ray and Sally Chlouber of Shawnee and Kenneth Wayne and Pat Chlouber of Leadville, Colo.; three grandsons, Gary, Chris, and Cole Chlouber; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Sam Hendry officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Victoria Lepley

Holdenville resident Victoria Lepley, 59, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 4.
She was born May 5, 1946, in Pontiac, Mich..

She was a resident of Shawnee for 30 years and worked most of those years in child care. She was a member of Day Star Chapel and worked in the childrens department.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Jon and Lashawn Milliman of Arizona and Ralph and Daphne Milliman of Shawnee; two daughters, Imogene and Ronnie Guinn of Holdenville and Ohmia Joy Ann of Shawnee; eight grandchildren, Jonathan and Nathaniel Milliman, Chris and Kendra Guinn, Chelsea and Justice Milliman and Elissia Greer and Shelby Garrett; three brothers and four sisters, Norm Bybee of Shawnee, Ralph Jr. and Dale of California, Ohmia, Jannie and Norma Jean of California and Diane of Texas; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends and loved ones.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Matthews officiating.

Elmer Lee Sires

Shawnee resident Elmer Lee Sires, 87, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, at his home.
He wa born March 3, 1918, in Sparks to Roy and Lydia (Meier) Sires.

On July 24, 1951, he was married to Zetta M. Tague in Sheridan, Wyo.

Mr. Sires worked as a roughneck on off shore oil wells in the Gulf. He retired in 1982 and made his home in Shawnee. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leo, Fred and James; and one sister, Viola Thompson.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Spurgin and husband, Jack, of Oklahoma City and Linda Sue Byrd of Warner Robins, Ga.; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Carl Sires of Shawnee; sister, Pearl Hall of Sparks; and several nieces and nephews.

Lifelong Norman resident Mary Joan (Stuart) Talley, 74, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, in Norman.
She was born June 25, 1931, in Norman to Elemer and Doxie (Lee) Stuart.

She attended grade school in Little Axe and was a graduate of Norman High School. She then attended Oscar Rose College where she earned her Associate Degree. She retired from Tinker Air Force Base. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Little Axe. She enjoyed playing the organ and piano, cooking and was dedicated to all her family.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Ann Smith; her parents and four brothers, Herman Foree, Vernon Foree, David Stuart and Wesley Stuart.

Survivors include one grandson and granddaughter-in-law, James and Christine Smith of Flower Mound, Texas; son-in-law, Larry Smith of Norman; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, James and Carol Smith of Kingston, Sunny and Sharon Stuart of Little Axe and Katy Stuart of Norman; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Ederal E. (Ginger) Neeley

Ederal Neeley, 81, departed this life Monday, Sept. 6, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.
One of eight children, she was born May 24, 1924, in Guin, Ala., to Andrew and Stella Robertson.

She worked at Tinker Air Force Base 32 years before retiring in 1986.

She married Russell Neeley in 1940. He preceded her in death.

She also was preceded in death by an infant daughter, her parents, one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie Joe and Velma Neeley of Shawnee; two daughters, Linda White of Oklahoma City and Sharon Apple of California; two grandsons, Mike White and David Schulz of Oklahoma City; five granddaughters, Rhonda and Tracy Neeley and Kelly Klotz, Candy Apple and Rene Apple; three great-granddaughters; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Jimmie and Rhoper Bly, Gladys and Johnnie Kinnamon of Shawnee and Blanche and Andy Keller of California; one brother and sister-in-law, Lynn and Peggy Robertson of Oklahoma City; and many relatives and friends.

Jimmy Earl Davis

Lifelong Pottawatomie County resident Jimmy Earl Davis, 69, Tecumseh, died Thursday, Sept. 8, in Shawnee.
He was born Oct. 8, 1935, in Tecumseh, the son of Fred O. and Helen (Furbee) Davis.

He was a graduate of Dale High School and also served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Korea. On Aug. 26, 1960, he married Betty Motley in Dallas. He owned and operated Jim Davis Overhead Doors for more than 30 years and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 260. He enjoyed fishing and working on garage doors.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one son, Jimmy F. Davis, brother, Buddy Davis and sister, Claudine Taylor.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Davis, of the home; son, David Davis, Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Kurt King of Del City; brothers, Charles Davis of Holiday Island, Ark., and Leslie Davis of Edmond; brother-in-law and spouse, Rex and Earlene Motley of Bethel; eight grandchildren, including Dusty Davis of Tecumseh, 11 great-grandchildren and uncle, J.D. Arnold, Shawnee.

Former Shawnee resident Hal G. Awtrey Jr., 80, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 5, at St. Lucie Medical Center, Port St. Lucie, Fla.
He was born in Oklahoma City and had been a resident of Port St. Lucie for the past two years, coming from Shawnee. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving two and one half years in the South Pacific. He retired from Norton Chevrolet and Cadillac as general manager in Shawnee. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, PGA County Club and Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Awtrey.

Survivors include his son, Jim Awtrey and daughter-in-law Jeanne of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; grandchildren, Jena Brown and husband, Greg, of Greenville, S.C., Julie South and husband, Scott, of Orlando, Fla., and Justin Awtrey and fiancee, Erin Doorley, of Padre Island, Texas; great-grandchildren, Kailee Brown, age 7, Hannah South, age 5, Juliah South, age 5, Sarah South, age 3, and Makalah South, age 1.

Edward Watson

Elgin resident Edward Watson, 67, died Saturday, Sept. 10, at his home in Elgin.
He was born June 29, 1938 in Prarie Grove, Ark., to Orville Edward and Ruby (Cahall) Watson.

He was raised in Arkansas and had lived in Bethany and Shawnee before moving to Elgin about 15 years ago.

He was married to Mary (Lumbar), she died in 1982.

He worked for Mobil Oil Company of Shawnee before becoming disabled.

He enjoyed being with his nieces and nephews.

Survivors include a daughter, Connie Louise Watson of Shawnee; a son, David Watson; his mother, Ruby Watson of Shawnee; a sister, Wanda Watson of Shawnee; a brother, Ronald DeWayne Watson of Arizona, and several nieces and nephews.

Emma Earlene Bray

Emma Earlene Bray, 74, of Tecumseh, died Monday, Sept. 12, in Shawnee.
She was born May 1, 1931, in Vinita to Earl and Grace Bell (Humble) Bowen.

She was reared in Cushing and was a graduate of Preston High School. Following high school she lived in Oklahoma City and attended business school, beauty school, and real estate school.

She was married Nov. 4, 1950, to Thomas Bray in Oklahoma City.

She moved to Choctaw and pastored Woodlawn Pentecostal Holiness Church. She then moved to the Pink area and pastored at OK Full Gospel Church. She also worked as a beautician and real estate agent.

She was very active in the Living Word Church, the Evangelistic Center Church, and the Simon Peter Storehouse and Homeless Ministry.

She was preceded in death by her husband on June 18, 1982, and by her parents.

Survivors include, a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Delbert Phillips of Shawnee; sons and daughters-in-law, Clifford and Wendy Bray of Shawnee, and Dennis and Susan Bray of Tecumseh; grandchildren, Tina Hutchinson-Romena, Brandy Oswald, Angela Annanders, Travis Bray, Sheldon Bray, Christa Bray and Nathan Bray; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Hutchinson, Tristian Hutchinson, Devin Hutchinson, Trevor Hutchinson, Legend Hutchinson, Justice Romena, Jordan Oswald, Chase Oswald, Baylee St. Clair and Brandon St. Clair.

Drew Milton Payton, 55, died Saturday, Sept. 10, at his home in Tecumseh.
He was born June 29, 1950, in Augusta Ga., to William and Sarah (Jones) Payton.

He had worked as a painter for various companies and contractors.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Payton.

Survivors include his wife, Viola Payton of the home; seven children, William, Joe, Cody, Andy, Frank, Scott, Vianna and her husband, James; one adopted child, Chris; his father, William Payton; two sisters, Lil and Eleanor; and a special friend, Karen Hudson.

Helen Grover Canova

Former Shawnee resident Helen Grover Canova, 97, died Saturday, Sept. 10, at her residence in Hendersonville, Tenn.
Helen Grover Canova was born in White City, Kan. on Nov. 8, 1907, to Rolla George Holaday and Helen Mary Grove-Holaday. She received a bachelors degree in education from Northeastern State University, Tahlequah.

Helen was married to John C. Canova in Tulsa.

She was a member of the Hendersonville First United Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church of Shawnee. She taught English for 31 years and enjoyed knitting and travel.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 24, 1968; her parents, Rolla on March 8, 1963 and Helen on Dec. 6, 1961.

Survivors include her niece, Iris (Evan) Tabbert of Hendersonville and her nephew, L. Jack (Belle) Harris of Shawnee; her great-niece, Glee (Doug) Moore of Gallatin, Tenn.; great-nephews, Ted (Judy) Tabbert of Red Boiling Springs, Tenn., Nathan (Christine) Tabbert of Dumfries, Va., Lloyd (Laura) Hanis of Layton, Utah, Wayne (Kathleen) Harris of Houston, Texas, Margaret Jane (David) Johansson of Pryor; and other relatives and friends.

Robert B. Sympson

Robert B. "Bobby" Sympson, 65, of Shawnee, died Monday, Sept. 12, at his home.
He was born Aug. 9, 1940 at St. Joseph, Mo., to Robert and Alma (Ball) Sympson.

He graduated from Shawnee High School and attended Oklahoma Baptist University and Oklahoma University.

He was a car salesman for Norton Chevrolet and Cadillac and later became an independent oil producer.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of Ducks Unlimited, First Baptist Church and a master bridge player.

He was preceded in death by a son.

He is survived by a son Bryan Todd Sympson of New Braunfels, Texas, a daughter, Janet Lynn Hendricks of Norman; a sister, Judy Gilvey of High Shoals, Ga.; a brother, Joseph Franklin Sympson of Rockport, Texas; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

John T. Windel, 79, of Shawnee, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at a local nursing home.
He was born Oct. 27, 1925, in Shawnee to Troy F. and Dora (Stultz) Windel. He was raised in the Econtuchka bottom northwest of Shawnee.

He attended Shawnee High School and served in the U.S Navy. After returning home, he sold farm equipment and then worked at Tinker Air Force Base as a parts expeditor.

He married Betty Lou O'Neal, Nina M. Curtess and later Verl M. Storie.

He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the American License Plate Collectors Association. He was also an avid brick collector and loved to hunt and fish. He had many quail and pheasant hunting trips with his brothers-in-law and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Walt and Frank Windel; sister, Dorothy Simpson; wife, Nina Windel and a son Kurt Douglas Windel.

He is survived by his wife, Verl M. Storie of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Wes and Vicki Windel; daughter, Judith Debra Stokes; daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Curt Crosier; grandsons, Brit and Cody Windel, and many nieces and nephews.

Esther "Patricia" Ferron

Long time Shawnee resident Esther "Patricia" Ferron, 96, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 13. She took the first step of this journey with her family at her bedside.
Patricia moved to Shawnee from New Jersey in 1982. She was an active volunteer at the Shawnee Senior Citizen Nutrition Center for some 20 years. She was known for creativity and warmth. She made sure a birthday was never missed by crafting monthly calendars proudly displayed at the Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Arthur Sr., in 1994.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. A.J. and Ruthann Ferron of McLoud; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Eugene Aloi of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren, A.J. and Elizabeth Ferron, Craig Ferron, Michelle and David Harris, Christopher and Amanda Ferron and Collette Aloi; six great-grandchildren, Nichole Ferron, Ashley Ferron, Joey Ferron, Kaytlyn Ferron, Krista Ferron and Hunter Harris.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Home, Shawnee. Graveside service celebrating her life will follow at 11 a.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Burniece Estelene Petray

Burniece Estelene Petray, 69, of Seminole, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005 at her home.
Service will be 11:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 16 at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Charles Bascue officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery.

Jeremiah A. Jensen, 21, of Garner, N.C., died Sunday, Sept. 11, from the results of an auto accident.
