Robert Carl Warden

Prague resident Robert Carl "Short" Warden, 85, died Saturday, Feb. 26, at his home south of Prague.
He was born Jan. 4, 1920, west of Paden to Dan and Ora (Baize) Warden. He attended Garden Grove school.

At 13, he quit school to farm with his father during the depression. In 1939, he joined the Civilian Concentration Corp and worked in a camp near Yuma, Ariz., building trails which are still in existence today in the Grand Canyon National Park.

Warden joined the U.S. Army in October 1941, serving in the Army Air Corps in St. Louis, Mo., Greensboro, N.C., and Panama City, Panama.

On Oct. 31, 1942, he married Katherene Suggs at her parents' home in Paden.

He was discharged from the Army in December 1945. He bought the family farm in January 1948 and remained there 57 years. He was a farmer, oil field worker, plumber, water well driller and a school custodian.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years in 1997; his parents and twin brothers, who died as infants in 1918.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Marty Warden of Shawnee; one daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Jerry Pratka of Prague; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred and Sibble Warden of Shawnee, Raymond and Billie Warden of Eufaula and Russell and Shirley Warden of Muskogee; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Hazel Muzny of Oklahoma City, Ida Molander of Oklahoma City and Barbara and Dean Lane of Seminole; six grandchildren and spouses, Rob and Pattie Warden of Florissant, Mo., Jason and Angie Winchester of Luther, April and Carey Humphrey of Shawnee, Rob and Heather Winchester of Prague, Josh and Carrie Pratka of Prague and Marria and Doug Brydon of Mesquite, Texas; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Little Church of Christ with Rusty Dawson officiating. Burial will follow at Prague Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.

Lucille M. Houin Valeton
Former Shawnee resident Lucille M. Houin Valeton of Metairie, La., 88, died Sunday, Feb. 20, in Metairie.
On Aug. 27, 1916, she was born in New Orleans, La., the daughter of Carmen Raymond and Henry L. Houin.

On April 29, 1939, she married Harold T. Valeton. He preceded her in death April 27, 1994.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Carmen Houin and Gloria Sandoz; and two sisters-in-law, Bertha and Dotty Valeton.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ellen and William Martin of Shawnee, Barbara Helm of Kenner, La., and Charlotte and James Robertson of Metairie; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Rina, Mark and Katie, Matthew and Sheila Martin, Ronald Jr. and Lisa, Joseph and Stacy Helm, Kelly and Keith Meyn, Kim and Brian Bowes and Kristy and Brent Starring, Jennifer and Charles Sumrall, Charles and Christina, James and Christopher Robertson; brother, Henry L. Houin Jr.; sister, Helen D'Amico; 19 great-grandchildren, three stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service was held Feb. 24 at Our Lady of Divine Providence Church, Metairie, with burial at St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, New Orleans, La.

Longtime Seminole resident Thelma Lee Savage, 74, died Sunday, Feb. 27, at her home.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Terry Newell and Ray Newell officiating. Burial will be at Little Cemetery.

Longtime Seminole resident Marjorie C. Davis, 83, died Saturday, Feb. 26, in Seminole.

Shawnee resident Fred Bertram, 82, died Saturday, Feb. 26, at a local hospital.

He was born March 29, 1922, in Guthrie to Maxwell and Mary (Ballsinger) Bertram.

He attended Guthrie schools.

Bertram was married to Gladys Mickleson for 54 years. She preceded him in death Dec. 1, 2004.

He was an oil field worker for Gearhart Industries Inc. He also was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Max and Julia Bertram, Steve and Sherry Bertram and Mike and Anita Bertram, all of Shawnee; six grandchildren, Joshua Bertram, Chris Bertram, Isaac Bertram, Amanda Bertram, Christene Bertram and Ryan Sheppard; one great grandchild.

Service will be 10 a.m. today at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Lewis Walters officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Virginia Sue Williams

Tecumseh resident Virginia Sue Williams, 65, died Monday, Feb. 28, in Shawnee.

She was born June 6, 1939, to Omer V. Williams and Susan Katie (Leeper) Williams.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marie Thompson and Pauline Means; two brothers, Donald and Vester Williams; and two brothers-in-law, Charles Means and Bob Crouch.

Survivors include brother and sister-in-law, Orval and Marie Williams of La Habra, Calif.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathryn Crouch of Shawnee, Wanda and Foy Pitman of Williston, N.D., Ruth and Milo Garver of San Diego, Calif., and Martha and Jack French of Tecumseh; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Paul Zahler officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Janice Lynn Trammell
Tecumseh resident Janice Lynn Smith Trammell, 58, died Monday, Feb. 28, in Shawnee.

She was born April 19, 1946, in Cameron County, Texas, to J.D. Smith Jr. and Maxine (Britt) Smith.

She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1965. She attended Shawnee School of Cosmetology. She later attended Gordon Cooper Technology Center, where she received her practical nursing degree.

She worked as an LPN for the last 36 years.

She volunteered with the Tecumseh Roundup Club for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Paula Michelle Smith; and daughter, Margaret Maxine James.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Larry Scott of Tecumseh; son, Jay Malone of McLoud; three granddaughters, Megan Maxine Hackney, Danielle Nicole Lantz and Hannah Mae Malone; brother and sister-in-law, Dee and Karen Smith of Kingston; sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Larry Scott of Moyers; five nephews; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Wayne Bryant and Tracy Bryant officiating.

Ruby Grace Glenn

Norman resident Ruby Grace Glenn, 88, died Tuesday, March 1, at a Norman nursing home.

She was born June 4, 1916, in Eureka Springs, Ark., to Andrew Wooldridge King and Roma Robertson King.

She was reared in Shawnee and graduated from Dale High School.

On Oct. 12, 1935, she married Curtis Lewis Glenn. The couple lived in Shawnee before moving to Kansas. The Glenns returned to Shawnee in 1947 and lived here until 1958 when they moved to Muskogee. In 1964, they moved to Norman.

Glenn was a homemaker. She worked as a caregiver for other children.

She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, six sisters and one brother.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan E. and Sherry Glenn of Cuchara, Colo., and Darrell A. and Terry Glenn of Norman; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kay and Don Anderson of Oklahoma City and Jane Cannon of Norman; one sister, Oleta McCalip of Shawnee; 10 grandchildren, Andy Glenn Anderson, Elaine Warner, David Anderson, Kristi Holderbaum, Kristi Glenn, Curtis Glenn, Eric Glenn, Shannon Glenn, Darren Glenn and Matthew Glenn Cannon; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Guardian-Norman Funeral Home. Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee

Nicole Renee DeHuff

A memorial service for Nicole Renee DeHuff, 30, will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cinema Centre 8, 3031 N. Harrison. DeHuff died Feb. 16 in Los Angeles, Calif.

She was born Jan. 6, 1975, in Antlers to Michael and Patsie (Myers) DeHuff, who now live in Shawnee. She attended elementary school in Broken Bow, then her family lived in Oklahoma City from 1984 to 1992. She graduated from Putnam City High School in 1993. In 1998, she earned a bachelor of arts degree in drama from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa. She was an actor in the movie industry in Hollywood and was a member of the Screen Actor's Guild.

On Nov. 11, she married Ari Palitz of New York at a ceremony in Las Vegas, Nev.

Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Dorcas and Frank DeHuff and Delma and James R. Myers.

Surviving relatives include her parents of Shawnee; her husband of Hollywood Hills, Calif; a sister and brother-in-law, Gretchen and Marty Leahy of Ponchatoula, La.; three uncles, two aunts and several cousins.

A memorial service has already been held in Los Angeles.

Actress to be remembered at Shawnee memorial service

An Oklahoma-born actress will be remembered in a setting befitting her vocation -- a theater.

A memorial service is set for 10 a.m. Saturday for Nicole DeHuff at the Cinema Centre 8 in Shawnee. Her parents, Dr. Michael and Patsie DeHuff, live in Shawnee.

DeHuff died Feb. 16 in Los Angeles from complications from pneumonia and asthma.

The 30-year-old Antlers native appeared in the movie "Meet the Parents" and has the female lead role in "Unbeatable Harold," which is set for release this year and stars Dylan McDermott and Charles Durning. She also had roles in the films "Suspect Zero," "See Arnold Run" and "The Court." In 2003, she played the lead role in "Billy the Kid," a play at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, Calif.

A premiere showing of "Meet the Parents" was held in Shawnee in 2000 for the DeHuff family and friends.

DeHuff also appeared in television shows including "CSI: Miami," "Monk," "Without a Trace" and "The Practice."

Nicole Renee DeHuff was born Jan. 6, 1975, in Antlers. She attended elementary school through the third grade at Lukfata in Broken Bow. Her family moved to Oklahoma City from 1984 to 1992 in order for her father to attend the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine. Her mother was a school teacher in Putnam City.

Nicole began her acting career in the third grade at Lukfata, when she appeared in "Treasure Island." In the fourth grade she appeared in "Shakespeare" in Oklahoma City. Then, as a 15-year-old high school student, she appeared in "Shakespeare in the Park" in Edmond.

Nicole graduated from Putnam City High School in 1993. She was active in drama and debate and was president of her junior class. She then attended the Carnegie Mellon Acting Conservatory in Pennsylvania, earning a bachelor's degree in drama in 1998. She also was a member of the Screen Actor's Guild.

On Nov. 11, 2001, Nicole married Ari Palitz of New York in a Las Vegas, Nev., ceremony with her family and close friends. Palitz is a writer, producer and director. His recent work has included producing and directing for "The Syndicate" on the lot of Universal Studios in Hollywood.

DeHuff is survived by her husband, her parents, and her sister and brother-in-law, Gretchen and Marty Leahy of Ponchatoula, La.

Marvin Walker

Shawnee resident Marvin Walker, 85, died Tuesday, March 1, at his home in Shawnee.
He was born Nov. 4, 1919, in Shawnee to Benjamin and Dora (Benson) Walker. He graduated from Shawnee High School.

Walker was an engineering draftsman at Tinker Air Force Base.

On June 6, 1947, he married Beulah E. Puckeshino.

He served in the U.S. Army, Co. H 503D Parachute Infantry Regiment. During World War II, he made three combat jumps: Nadzab, New Guinea, Noemfoor, Dutch New Guinea and Corregidor "The Rock," Philippines.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Evans, Bill, Harry, Williard and Luther; four sisters, Mabel, Frances, Nancy and Edith; wife, Beulah; and sons, Barry, Robert and Billy.

Survivors include five sons, Larry Walker, Elmer Walker, Mike Pequano and David Wakolee all of Shawnee, and Curtis Pequano of Kingston; two daughters, Jeanette Walker and Mary Carter both of Shawnee; numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Tribal rites will be Thursday evening at the Walker family home. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Wakolee Cemetery.

Robert Eugene Dodson

Seminole resident Robert "Bob" Eugene Dodson, 58, died Wednesday, March 2, at an Okahoma City hospital.

He was born Aug. 31, 1946, in Washington, D.C., to George Henry Dodson and Dorothy Mae (Lewis) Dodson.

On Sept. 4, 1965, he married Linda Sue (Lemmings) Dodson at the Seminole home of his grandparent, C.E. "Charley" and Opal McDaniel.

He lived most of his life in Seminole, moving here in 1960 from Germany where his father was in the U.S. Army.

Dodson worked for his grandparents at McDaniel Casing Pulling from 1966-1977 and was a firefighter for Seminole Fire Department from January 1977 until he retired as captain in January 1999. He served as captain for several years, then interim fire chief. He also was a respiratory therapist since 1986, currently working at Valley View Hospital in Ada. He worked at the old Seminole Hospital and the new Seminole Hospital as well as Mission Hill and Unity North Health Center in Shawnee.

He was a member of the Seminole Jaycees and the Oklahoma Jaycees. He also served on the Seminole Civil Defense and Auxiliary Police Force and as a scuba diver for Seminole County. For the past 34 years he was associated with the Seminole Gospel Singing Association, where he was one of its main organizers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Henry and Dorothy Mae Dodson and his grandparents, C.E. "Charley" and Opal McDaniel

Survivors include his wife, Linda Dodson of the home; two daughters and son-in-law, Roberta and Greg Moore of Yukon and Robin McCoy of the home; brother, Tony M. Dodson of Oklahoma; three sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rosetta and Rex Bird of Oklahoma City, Loretta and Larry Swan of Oklahoma City, and Judy and Harris Thacker of Seminole; four grandsons, Brice Daniel Sims, Dustin McCoy and Sheldon McCoy, all the the home, and Brady Moore of Yukon; one granddaugher, Parker Lynn Moore of Yukon; and other family and friends.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steve Cline officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery.

Harvey Glen Godsoe

Richardson, Texas, resident Harvey Glen "Bud" Godsoe, 73, died Saturday, Feb. 26, in Richardson, Texas.

He was born April 3, 1931, in Oklahoma City to Harvey Gaston Godsoe and Beryl Godsoe.

Bud served two years in Korea with the National Guard, graduated from Oklahoma State University and was co-owner of Godsoe Special Lines Insurance Brokerage.

He was a longtime member of the Pathfinder's class at the First United Methodist Church in Richardson, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Ann Godsoe.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Paul and Wravan Godsoe Baker and Scott and Andra Godsoe Kunkle; two grandchildren, Claire and Bryan Baker; two sisters, Patsy Jean Brooke and Janie Hand.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist church, 534 W. Beltline Rd., Richardson, Texas.

Betty Nadene Affentranger

Las Vegas resident Betty Nadene Affentranger, 70, died Thursday, Feb. 23.

She was born Feb. 8, 1935, in Turkey, Texas, to Otis Earl and Carrie Armenda (Clemons) Garrison

She lived most of her childhood in Clinton.

She was married Aug. 8, 1952, in Clinton to John Delmar Affentranger.

She was an alumna of Pomona College in Claremont, Calif., and San Fernando Valley State College in San Fernando, Calif. She held a bachelors degree in elementary education and a masters degree in school counseling.

Affentranger's career spanned 28 years. She was an elementary school teacher in Lancaster, Calif., and in Prague. She also was a Title IX Indian educator in Prague. Upon retiring in 1990 she moved to Oklahoma City, where she volunteered in Oklahoma Gov. David Walters' office. She moved to Las Vegas in July 2002.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, Jess David Garrison; and three infant siblings.

Survivors include two sons, John Jr. of Oklahoma City and Gary of Norman; three daughters, Janet of Hays, Kan., Delana of Moore and Deborah of Las Vegas; a brother, Otis Earl "Chuck" Garrison of Amarillo, Texas; two sisters, Ada Mae Harper of Granada, Miss., and Wanda Jo Thornburgh of San Augustine, Texas; and 11 grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at John Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel in Moore. Burial will be at the Moore Cemetery.

Agnes Marie Carter
Shawnee resident Agnes Marie Carter, 93, died Tuesday, March 1, in a local hospital.

She was born April 13, 1911, in Wanette to Oliver and Francis Benton.

She graduated from St. Benedict High School in 1930.

She worked for the county clerks office and Lewis Pott County Abstract office in Shawnee.

She was a member of the St. Benedict Catholic Church, Altar Society and the Prayer Line.

She was married to Kenneth Carter Oct. 3, 1936, in Holdenville. He preceded her in death in 1995.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers; Anthony, Robert, Clarence, Elbert Joseph and Oliver Jr.; and one sister, Mary Cunningham.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, James and Beverly Carter of Corinth, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Lewis Hullum of Shawnee; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kim and Alan Jones of Corinth, Texas; one sister, Dorothy Buchanan of Shawnee; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A wake service will be 7 p.m. today at the chapel of Walker Funeral Service.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held noon Friday at St. Benedict Catholic Church with the Rev. Maurus Jaeb, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

James W. Thompson

Shawnee resident James W. Thompson, 82, died Wednesday, March 2, in Shawnee.

He was born Feb. 27, 1923, in Tribbey to Clint Alexander Thompson and Sarah Jane (Kernaghan) Thompson.

He attended and graduated from Tribbey High School.

Thompson served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On June 14, 1947, he married Barbara Jean "Bobbie" Beason in Shawnee.

Thompson worked for Welex, a seismograph company, before moving to Shawnee in 1961. He then worked at Tinker Air Force Base in the active reserves doing radio and radar work. He retired from Tinker in 1981. After retirement he became a cabinet maker and was active with Meals-on-Wheels.

He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Cleo Wright and Louise Thompson; one brother, Clarence Thompson.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Thompson, of the home; son, Phil Thompson of Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Tommy Harmon of Shawnee; two grandchildren and their spouses, Kelli and Eric VanGilder of Tulsa and Brad and Lisa Harmon of Stillwater; one great-grandson; two brothers, Carl Thompson of Wichita, Kan., Dene Thompson of Denton, Texas; sister, Bea Marble of Sacramento, Calif.; many nieces, nephews and other family.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Larry Goins officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Shawnee.

Rosalie Ann Patterson

Choctaw resident Rosalie Ann Patterson died Tuesday, March 1, at the age of 67.

She was born Feb. 20, 1938, in Jacktown to Clyde and Dorothy Maness.

She attended Southeast High School.

On March 21, 1956, she married Johnny Patterson, and they made their home in Choctaw for 40 years.

Her father, Clyde, and brother, Ronald Maness, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Johnny of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Ilene Patterson of Tucson, Ariz; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Frank Hunnicutt of Shawnee; mother, Dorothy Maness of Oklahoma City; sister, Joann Ferrell of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Chad Hunnicutt and Bradley Hunnicutt of Shawnee and Aaron Patterson and Jennifer Patterson of Tucson, Ariz; one great-granddaughter, lifelong friend, Phyllis Jones; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Former longtime Shawnee resident Jewell L. Titsworth, 89, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, in Topeka, Kan.
She was born Sept. 4, 1915, in the Vanzant community.

She moved to Garden Grove Community as a child and graduated from Okfuskee County High School in 1932.

Titsworth was a longtime employee of Brown Furniture Co. in Shawnee.

In 1951, she married Clifton Titsworth. He preceded her in death Sept. 16, 1985.

Titsworth was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and had been active in Altar Society, Sponsa Regis Study Club, Golden Hearts and St. Vincent DePaul Social Services.

Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Carl and Bethe Titsworth of Topeka, Kan., and Tony Titsworth of Lawrenceville, Ga.; four grandchildren, Patrick and wife Shonda of Topeka, Kan., Rachel of Topeka, Kan., Jeff and wife Sherrie of Murphy, Texas, and Shelley of Coppel, Texas; three great-grandchildren; ands several nieces and nephews.

Service will be noon Monday at St. Benedict Catholic Church with the Rev. Maurus P. Jaeb, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will follow at Prague Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Sarah Opal Smith

Sarah Opal Smith, 87, of Shawnee died March 3.
She was born Nov. 28, 1917, in Earlsboro to Charley and Amelia (Gray) Miller.

On Jan. 31, 1936, she married Tillman "Happy" Smith and they moved to Shawnee in 1947. They were farmers.

Smith was a member of Liberty Baptist Church since 1963 and a member of the Tracy Rebekah Lodge No. 55 for many years and was a Rebekah for 58 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother and daughter, Elizabeth.

Survivors include one daughter, Charlene Taylor; one son and daughter-in-law, Eugene and Dolores Smith; five grandchildren and their spouses, Carol and Mark Roy, Brian and Kim White, Nelda Smith, Charles and Vin White and Nathaniel Taylor; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Liberty Baptist Church. Graveside service will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Shawnee resident Verna Mae Biggs, 74, died March 2 in Oklahoma City.

She was born on March 31, 1930 in Hydro Ok to Samuel Sampson and Ora Aline Adair.

Verna Mae married Paul E. Biggs March 19, 1947.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul in 1998, and one grandson, Bobby Gene Moore.

She is survived by one son James and Ruth Biggs, Perkins,OK., two daughters; Paullet Notturno and special friend, Dan Makaseah, Shawnee, OK., and Barbara and Eddie Phipps, Duncan, OK., one brother Floyd Adair, Guthrie, OK., and one sister Betty and Bill Francisco, Arlington, Tx.

Ann Lee Drinnan Boone
Former Shawnee resident Ann Lee Drinnan Boone, 92, died Thursday, March 3 in Albuquerque, N.M.

She was born Sept. 18, 1912, in Shawnee and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1929. She attended Oklahoma College for Women and graduated in 1934 with a degree in chemistry; she was second in her class.

She married Paul L. Boone in 1937, who preceded her in death.

She taught in the Shawnee Public Schools for more than 30 years.

She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church and served on the session. She was active in the WaPaHe Study Club, the Monday Book Club and Kappa Kappa Iota.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Helen Grace Drinnan.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Sharon Haygood Boone of Memphis, Tenn.; daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Robert Lupton of Albuquerque, N.M.; granddaughter and husband, Drs. Susan and Sid Roberts of Knoxville, Tenn.; a great-granddaughter; sister and brother-in-law Clarissa and Col. Frank Jackson of Tucson, Ariz.; cousin, John and Eleanor Graham of Tulsa, and many other relatives.

Arthur M. McCabe

Lifelong Bethel Acres resident, Arthur M. "Ott" McCabe, died at his home on Wednesday, March 2, 2005. Arthur was born on December 23, 1921 in Marlow, Oklahoma. He gradulated from Bethel High School in 1942 and married his high school sweetheart, Nellie Isabel Reaves on August 8, 1942. McCabe served in WWII, after hirst being shipped out for basic training and maneuvers. he worked with an evacuation hospital unit in England before being sent to France. McCabe was transferred to the 104th Infantry Division after reaching Belgium where he remained until the war in Europe ended. McCabe's European service included making the Omaha Beach landing during the D-Day invasion of Normandy and evacuation of concentration camps. McCabe mustered out at the end of the war, as a Master Sargeant, having earned a Silver Star for his service to democracy, and returned home to his wife. Ott and Nellie raised four children at their home in Bethel Acres.
McCabe's life was dedicated to his family, his country and his God. He was a star athlete, an avid sports enthusiast, a farmer, Papa and "Big Papa". McCabe retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 1983. Ott is survived by his wife, Nellie McCabe, his four children and their spouses (Sherri and James Martin of Choctaw, Linda and Stan Chard of Midwest City, Bob and Carolyn McCabe of Betherl Acres, Jim and Kathie McCabe of Bethel Acres); seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and five siblings (Ralph and Ollie McCabe of Bethel Acres, June and Wilford Petricek of McLoud, Helen and Royce Beaty of Perryville, Ark., Barbara and Paul Thomas of Tulsa, Cleta Love of Tecumseh). Ott was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Bessie McCabe, three sisters (Mabel McCabe, Wilma McCabe, Lavona Krieie) and a daughter-in-law, Kathy McCabe.

Service will be held at Walker Funeral Service on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at blackburn Chapel Cemetery immediately following.

Allie May Smith

Allie May (DeBoard) Smith, 85, of Chandler died Thursday, March 3, at a Meeker nursing home.

A Chandler native, she graduated from Chandler High School in 1938 and played on a basketball team that went to the All-State tournament. She attended Hill's Business College in Oklahoma City.

She married Albert Freeman Smith, also of Chandler. They lived in California until 1984, when they moved back to Chandler.

She was an auditor for the Bank of America.

Smith was a lifelong member of Chandler First Presbyterian Church, and a charter member of the Lincoln County Arts and Humanities Council and Lincoln County On-Stage. She was an active volunteer for the Lincoln County Historical Society and her church.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents, Roley and Lula Fay Key DeBoard.

She is survived by her sisters, Virginia Manning and Corky Bennett; nieces and nephews, Terry and Ron Shaul of Oklahoma, Bob and Linda Deatherage, Kim Maxwell, and Jeff and Elise Bennett, all of California; great-nieces and great-nephews, Krystal Harris of Oklahoma, Karen and Bryan Brazena of Oklahoma, David Bean of Oklahoma, Lindy Sweeny of Oklahoma, Bob and Julie Bean of Nevada, Kelly and Jim Ellis of Utah, Jeff and Caroyline Hirssher of Arkansas, Ginny and David Beaver of Oklahoma, David Main of South Carolina, Katrina Harris of Oklahoma and Malinda Harris of Oklahoma; and many more great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was born Jan. 1, 1947, in Concho to Lee Larney and Geneva (Brown) Larney.

Colungo had been a ward clerk for Shawnee Regional Hospital.

Johnie Lois Adams
Former Shawnee resident Johnie Lois Adams, 96, died Sunday, March 6, in Fort Smith Ark.

She was born March 5, 1909, in Fluvana, Texas, to Mike Spears and Elsie Turkett.

She attended Fredrich High School and the Oklahoma College for Women. She was a vocational home economics teacher.

On June 9, 1935, she married Otis S. Adams in Oklahoma City. He preceded her in death Jan. 17, 1995.

She moved to Shawnee in 1969. She was a Sunday school and BTU teacher. She also lived and taught school for six years in Ethiopia, Africa.

She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Mikela Grider and two grandsons, David Seth Adams and Michael Steele Adams.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, O.S. Adams Jr. and Cathy of Fort Smith, Ark.; son-in-law, Rex Grider of Shawnee; four grandchildren, Lisa Grider White of Muskogee, Rex Lee Grider Jr. of Fort Smith, Ark., and Cassandra Adams of Fort Smith Ark.; three great grandchildren.

Tecumseh resident George Rayfield, 83, died Sunday, March 6, in Shawnee.

He was born May 14, 1921, in Davis to Bill and Martha (Denton) Rayfield.

He attended school in Davis. He was reared in Davis and had lived in Tecumseh for the past 64 years.

In September 1940, Rayfield married Maxine Burch in Shawnee.

He worked at Shawnee Milling Company for 46 years and also was a cattleman.

He was preceded in death by one son, John Richard Rayfield, and one daughter, Joyce Sue Rayfield.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Rayfield, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, George W. and Judy Rayfield of Richardson, Texas; and numerous other relatives.

Sue Nickel, 67, died Monday, March 7, in Arlington, Texas.

She was born Aug. 17, 1937, in Tecumseh to Beatrice and Louie Kieffer.

She was a homemaker and a member of the VFW Post 8661 Auxiliary.

Bill Riffe

Tecumseh resident Bill Riffe, 78, died Monday, March 7, in Tecumseh.

He was born Oct. 8, 1926, in Ada to Dee and Minnie (St. John) Riffe.

He was married in 1986 to Marie Pollock.

He grew up in Sulphur. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army. He lived in Japan for five years working for civil service following his military career. He then moved to Sulphur. He later moved to Oklahoma City and went to work for J&R Equipment Service. After leaving J&R he started his own business building heavy equipment. He also operated a hog farm in Oklahoma City. He had lived in Tecumseh since 1999.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a half brother and a half sister.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Riffe, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Billy Ray and Sharon Riffe of Velma; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Robert Beavers of Pauls Valley; stepchildren, Cheryl Lynn Wells, Lisa Pollock and Beth Ann Pollock; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Max Riffe of Marlow and Jack Riffe of Sulphur.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Tammy Lemons in 1992.

Vivian Rigby Parris

Tecumseh resident Vivian Rigby Parris, 56, died Friday, March 11, in Shawnee.

She was born March 17, 1948, in San Jose, Calif., to John and Ola (Cates) Merritt. Parris grew up in San Jose, Calif., and moved to Oklahoma in 1974. She has lived in the Shawnee and Tecumseh area since.

In 1963, she married Robert Rigby and they parted as friends in 1990.

Parris was an LPN, and had been employed by Tecumseh Sunset Estates for many years. She was currently exploring a new business venture.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Venes Mulllins.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Lois Rigby of Tecumseh; daughter and son-in-law, Cheri and Mickey Smith of Earlsboro; mother, Ola Merritt Sandovel of Macomb; brother and sister-in-law, John L. "J.L." and Shirley Merritt of Macomb; four grandchildren, Leslie (Rigby) Lewelling, Jami Smith, Keith Rigby and Bailey Smith; great-grandchild and numerous friends and other family members, including Brad and Gabby Merritt, Brian Merritt and Bradford Jr. and Blake Merritt.

Ruby J. Teague
Longtime Prague resident Ruby J. Teague, 78, died Sunday, March 13, in Prague.

Teague was born Nov. 6, 1926, in Utica to Jim and Pearl (Peton) Patton.

She attended Southeastern State College and received a bachelor of science degree from Oklahoma Baptist University. She taught at Prague Elementary School for more than 20 years.

On Oct. 20, 1945, she married James Teague in Durant.

Teague was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, served as the Lincoln County Voter registrar for many years and was a former member of the Prague Hospital Board. She also was a member of the First Baptist Church in Prague, where she taught Sunday school, a member of the Lincoln County Retired Teacher's Association and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Teague of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Sharon Teague of Oklahoma City, Stuart and Sherry Teague of Prague; daughters and son-in-law, Belinda and Ted Nakamura of Oklahoma City and Priscilla Mars of Prague; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with the Rev. Tim Emmons officiating. Burial will follow at Prague Cemetery.

Jimmie N. Johnson
Seminole resident Jimmie N. Johnson, 75, died Monday, March 14, in Norman.

She was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Ray City to Andrew and Fannie (Rutherford) Sharp. She attended school at Punkin Center and Maud. A longtime resident of Pottawatomie County, she moved to Seminole in 1988.

On April 2, 1946, she married Joe E. Johnson in Kingfisher. She was the bookkeeper for her husband's construction company and for Larry Crow Electric. She also was a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Assembly of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Juanita VanAntwerp.

Survivors include her husband, Joe E. Johnson of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy "Corky" and Sherry Johnson of Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbi and Jim Kinnamon of Shawnee; grandchildren, Brent and Lesa Johnson, Eric and Beth Johnson, Kraig Sexton, Chance Kinnamon, Amber Davis, Brian Burleson, Tarrah Wells, Angie Beeson, Lori Rinehardt and Devon Barnhardt; three great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at First Assembly of God, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Chad Brodrick officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Cooper Funeral Home is directing arrangements.

James Timberlake
Shawnee resident Dr. James Timberlake, 87, died Sunday, March 13, at his home.

Burial service with military honors will be 9 a.m. Friday at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Warren McWilliams and the Rev. J.C. Farrand.

Lifelong Seminole resident David John Wesley Quinalty died Friday, March 11, at the age of 54.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Pat and the Rev. Art Coffey officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery. Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole is directing arrangements.
