Helen Meyer

Former lifelong Shawnee resident Helen Meyer, 94, died Thursday, June 23, in Richardson, Texas.
She was born July 24, 1910, in Tecumseh to Albert E. and Cora (Waddle) Romberg.

During and after World War II she was a telephone operator in Shawnee. She also was employed as a cashier at Sears and as a teller with Federal National for many years until she retired.

On July 24, 1931, she married Emil D. Meyer in Enid.

Helen, known as Granny to her grandkids and Mom to her sons and their wives, grew up in the Rock Creek area and lived in Shawnee all of her life. She was greatly loved by her family and friends and brought joy to all those who knew her. No one ever met her that didn't remember a caring, energetic, unselfish person who had incredible talent for everything from cooking to needle work. She was an inspiration to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They will miss her dearly. She was an exceptionally special person.

She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Emil D. Meyer; son, Jerry W. Meyer; parents, Albert E. and Cora (Waddle) Romberg; sisters, Alma Taylor and Ruby Hoffnell; and brother, Alton Romberg.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Lynn and Judy Meyer of Fountain Valley, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Kathy Wilson of Richardson; grandchildren and their spouses, Mike and Mary Meyer of Richardson, Julie and Jim Taylor of Richardson, Diana and Mark Ramacher of San Carlos, Calif., Richard and Trisha Meyer of Farmington Hills, Mich.; great-grandchildren, Heather and Michael Taylor of Richardson, Jennifer and Ryan Meyer of Richardson, Drew, Carly and Sammy Ramacher of San Carlos, and David Meyer of Farmington Hills.

Service will be 10 a.m. today at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Sam Henry officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Gaskill Funeral Chapel.

Tena Crouch

Meeker resident Tena Crouch, 39, died Saturday, June 25.
She was born July 3, 1965, in Shawnee.

Crouch was a graduate of Shawnee High School and spent most of her working career as an underwriter for Hartford Insurance Company in Oklahoma City.

On May 21, 2001, she married Brian Crouch in Eureka Springs, Ark.

Survivors include her husband, Brian Crouch, of the home; mother and stepfather, Vicki and Robert Butler of Tulsa; grandmother, Jeanne Bailey of Shawnee; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Doyle and Norma Crouch of Shawnee; aunts and uncles, Holly and Bob Crothers of Shawnee, Larry Arthur and Celia Heath of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; three brothers-in-law and their wives, Steve and Glenda Crouch of Chandler, Ariz., David and Susan Crouch of San Antonio, Texas, and Robert Crouch of Shawnee; and numerous other family members.

Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Walker Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Dwight Dalrymple

McLoud resident Dwight Dalrymple, 57, passed away Saturday, June 25, at a local hospital.
He was born Oct. 31, 1947, in Munich, Germany, to Harold and Rozella Dalrymple.

On Oct. 2, 1971, he married Nancy Gayman on Oct. 2, 1971, in Mustang.

Dwight worked in assembly at General Motors.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy, of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Ryon and Christy Dalrymple of Wellston, Barry Dalrymple of McLoud; three grandchildren, Shelby Rian, Ryon Lee and Gabriel Gene Dalrymple; two sisters and seven brothers.

Service will be 10 a.m. today at New Beginnings Church with the Rev. Larry Sparks officiating. Burial will follow at McLoud Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Frank Kaskaske Jr.

Oklahoma City resident Frank Kaskaske Jr., 37, died Saturday, June 25, in Oklahoma City.
A covered dish dinner will be held 5 p.m. today at Snake Creek Baptist Church, Seminole, with a memorial service following at the church.

Lois Opal Shoemaker

Lois Opal Shoemaker, 88, died Sunday, June 26, in Norman.
Service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Highway Baptist Church, Seminole, with the Rev. Cal Hunter officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery in Seminole under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague

Raymond Lee Jones

Chandler resident Raymond Lee Jones, 61, died Monday, June 26, at his residence.
Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Living Waters Tabernacle in Meeker. Burial will follow at White Dove Cemetery, Sparks, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service.

Lisa Gayle Watson

Seminole resident Lisa Gayle Watson, 45, died Friday, June 24.
She was born June 8, 1960, in Portland, Ore., to Marvin Don Connelly and Beulah Mae (Hughes) Connelly.

On May 5, 1982, she married Rocky Watson in Shawnee.

She was a registered nurse working in the emergency room at Seminole Medical Hospital. She also was an EMT certified and a medical explorer post, affiliated with the Boy Scouts.

Watson was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and very active in the Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts.

Preceding her in death is her mother and brother, Keith Connelly.

Survivors include father and stepmother, Marvin Don and Mary Ann Connelly of Eugene, Ore.; husband, Rocky Watson; three children, Brandon Watson, Rocky Watson and Heather Watson, all of the home; two brothers, Steve Connelly and Sean Connelly, both of Virginia; and sister, Patty Irvin, of Coosbay, Ore.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Lewis Armour officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery, west of HWY 177 on Hardesty Rd, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Helen (Jack) Gibbs Seibel

Shawnee resident Helen (Jack) Gibbs Seibel, 92, passed away Sunday, June 26, at a local nursing home.
She was born March 23, 1913, in Bartlesville to Herman Joshua Jack and Mary (Polm) Jack.

Helen grew up in Clara, Texas, and moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, with her family when she was 10 years old.

She graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1930. Helen was employed by the Shamblin Photography Studio. In 1940 she moved to Lubbock, Texas, where she owned and operated the Photocraft Studio until her retirement in 1979.

Helen was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Lubbock, Texas, and St. Benedict Catholic Church.

In 1990 she became a resident of Colonial Estates Nursing Home until moving to Shawnee Care Center where she had resided since November 2000.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John "Jack" Seibel; two brothers, Cecil Earl Jack and Herman Joshua Jack Jr. and a sister, Bonnie Ruth Jack Bell.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Bonnie Garrett Jack of Shawnee; nephew, Michael Steven Jack of Shawnee; three nieces, Reba Sue Pipes of Lubbock, Mary Lou Scoph of Fort Worth, Texas, and Rae Ann Irick of Savannah, Ga.; several great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Cemetery, Lubbock, under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to Dr. Merle Davis, Shawnee Care Center, and to Shawnee Heartland Hospice.

Wanda Faye Burgess

Davenport resident Wanda Faye Burgess, 70, died Monday, June 27, at her home.
Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. today at Davenport Cemetery with the Rev. Terry Dennis' son-in-law officiating. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service.

Hurshel Wayne Martin

Seminole resident Hurshel Wayne Martin, 70, died Sunday, June 26, at his home.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Assembly of God, Bowlegs, with the Rev. Roy Robertson officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home

Herman L. Sherrill

Shawnee resident Herman L. Sherrill, 82, died Tuesday, June 28, at a local hospital.
He was born Oct. 31, 1922, in Meeker to Floyd T. and Verna (Pierson) Sherrill.

Sherrill graduated from Meeker High School.

On Jan. 12, 1946, he married Mabel L. Wright in Independence, Kan.

He owned and operated a service station and also worked as an aircraft mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base.

Sherrill lived in the Meeker area most of his life and was a member of Praise Assembly Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister and a granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel, of the home; two sons, Lloyd Dean Sherrill of Shawnee, Geary Wayne Sherrill of Meeker; two granddaughters; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Walker Funeral Service with the Rev. Tracy Burnett officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery, Meeker.

Frances Dorothy Shaw

Shawnee resident Frances D. Shaw, 85, died Monday, June 27.
She was born Jan. 26, 1920, to Ralph and Amy Doty in Lowry City, Mo.

On Nov. 25, 1939, she married Eugene W. (Gene) Shawn in Marshfield, Mo. They made their home in Springfield, Mo., until 1949 when they moved to Shawnee. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in November.

Frances was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church of Shawnee. She also was a member of the V.F. W. Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary for more than 52 years.

Preceding her in death are her parents and two sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene W. (Gene) Shaw of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Betty Shaw of Houston, Texas, and Ralph and Sylvia Shaw of San Antonio, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Charlott Kay and Richard C. Newell of Shawnee, Judy Sue and Dick Sellers of Shawnee; grandchildren, Terri and Brooks Malone and Amy Sellers, all of Shawnee, Doty and Jeff Case of Byng, Ralph Jr. and Jacqueline Shaw of San Antonio, Richie and Chasity Sellers of Yukon, Sue Anna Roberts of Broken Arrow; 20 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with Doyle Loveland officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

James Oscar Mills

Shawnee resident James Oscar J.O. Mills, 82, went into the loving arms of Jesus on Tuesday, June 28, at his home surrounded by family and friends.
He was born Jan. 17, 1923, in Dumas, Texas, to Oscar and Ollie Inez Mills.

J.O. served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1946. After his tour was over, he became a cattle rancher and farmer.

On March 16, 1984, he married his sweetheart Chris Tiner in Raton, N.M.

He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death are parents, two sisters, Veda Mae and Mary Lou, and a brother, Bob Mills.

Survivors include his wife, Chris, of the home; two stepchildren, Jack and Linda Tiner and Cheryl Brines, all of Bakersfield, Calif.; three stepgrandchildren, Mike Traynor, Greg Traynor and Angie Owens.

Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Liberty Baptist Church with Larry Goins and Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Alice Lorraine Stone

Alice Lorraine Stone, 80, died Tuesday, June 28, in Henryetta.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Methodist Church in Prague with Dr. Warren Danskin officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Dale Cemetery in Paden under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.

Frank Newton

Former Shawnee resident Frank W. Newton, 69, died Friday, June 3, in a Sacramento, Calif., hospital. He had been in poor health for several years.
He was born Feb. 5, 1936, in Litchfield, Ariz., to Marvin and Tressie (Butler) Newton.

While in Shawnee Frank lived with the late Paul Newton west of town.

In November 1954 he married Patsy Doyel. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November 2004.

He and Patsy both graduated with the class of 1955. He later received his college degree in Fresno, Calif.

Frank served a six year apprenticeship at The Shawnee News-Star. He worked most of his life in the printing industry, retiring from the San Jose Mercury-News in San Jose in 1991 after suffering from a major stroke. Frank left the printing industry for a few years and owned an auto garage in San Jose.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark; brothers, Raymond, Paul, Fred, Earl; and a sister, Marie Tompkins.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Doyel Newton of San Jose; three children, David Newton of Fremont, Calif., Elizabeth Glogowski and Angela Parillo, both of Auburn, Calif.; grandchildren, Christopher Easton, Ashleigh Keeling and Justin Glogowski, all of Auburn; brother, Roy Newton of San Jose; two sisters, Jowana Lackey of Tulare, Calif., and Cinda Aguirre of Porterville, Calif.

Memorial services were held in Auburn with burial following in Fremont.

Darrell Roland

Former Francis resident Darrell Roland, 48, died Sunday, June 26, near Henryetta. He was born Jan. 14, 1957, in Snyder, Texas, to Glen and Iris Childress Roland. He lived in the Francis area all of his life, attending school at Byng Elementary and graduating from Byng High School in 1975. He was currently residing in Orange Park, Fla.
On Dec. 8, 1979, he married Jennifer Murray. He was the owner and operator of Carland and also was employed with the NONI Company. He was affliated with the Jehovah's Witness.

Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Roland, of the home: two sons, Calaeb Roland of Ada, and Joshua Smith of Florida; three daughters, Priscilla Roland of Florida, Haley Roland of Ada, and Saylor Smith of Florida; his parents, Glen and Iris Roland of Gerty; one brother, Richard Roland of Francis; a sister, Phyllis Wolfe of Yukon; and his grandmother, Jessie Bowden of San Antonio, Texas.

Bearers will be Mike Trojanowski, Rick Meyers, Ben Smith, Brad Miller, Ron Everett, and Stanley Shores. Honorary bearers will be Terry Carty, Larry Johnson, Jim Wade, John Lambert, Brandon Babb, Mikey Babb and Rusty McNatt.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at the Byng High School Gymnasium with Alvie Jack and Allen Cottman officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Francis under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home.

Jean Wignall

Oklahoma City resident Jean Wignall, 81, died Tuesday, June 28.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Sunny Lane Cemetery under the direction of Sunny Lane Funeral Home.
