Dr. Gary L. Chancellor

Shawnee resident Dr. Gary L. Chancellor, 54, died Saturday, Nov. 27, in Oklahoma City.
He was born Sept. 15, 1950, in Dallas, Texas, to Dr. H.C. Chancellor and Helen Chancellor Tressler.

Chancellor graduated from high school in McKinney, Texas, and received his bachelor of arts from Austin College in Sherman, Texas. He earned a master of arts degree from Sorbonne in Paris, France; a master of arts degree from Schiller College in Heidelberg, Germany; and a Ph.D from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Chancellor was a professor of French and German languages and literatures. He taught at Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas, from 1980 to 1987 and Oklahoma Baptist University from 1987 to this semester.

He was an active member of University Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and worked for many years with the youth group.

He married Mary Harrell in 1973.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Chancellor, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Evan Chancellor and Hannah Harder of Oklahoma City; parents, Dr. H.C. and Sandy Chancellor of Plano, Texas, and Don and Helen Tressler of North Little Rock, Ark.; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Cliff Jenkins of Springdale, Ark.; stepbrothers, Sam Tressler and wife Penny of San Antonio, Texas, and Paul Tressler and wife Marilou of Royse City, Texas; stepsister, Elaine Bixby and husband David of North Little Rock, Ark.; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.

Shawnee resident Shirley Ruth (Wilson) Martin, 66, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, at her home.
She was born May 20, 1938, in Skaggs City to Roy Derwood Wilson and Mary Mae (Weaver) Wilson.

She attended grade school in the Pottawatomie County area and graduated in 1956 from Earlsboro High School.

She and her husband owned and operated Martin Service Station in Shawnee from 1966 to 1973 and operated Martin's Truck Stop in Sayer from 1973 to 1975. She also worked as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 1996.

On May 23, 1956, she married Billy Joe Martin in Shawnee. They were married for 31 years before his death April 15, 1987.

She also was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Mae (Weaver) Wilson Harmon; stepfather, Walter Fred Harmon; father, Roy Derwood Wilson; sister, Ruby Lee Swofford; half-sister, Dorothy Aileen Harmon Barnard; brothers, J.D. Wilson and Jerry Lynn Wilson; half-brother, Robert Lee Weaver; and son-in-law, Jeffrey Lawrence Harris.

Survivors include daughter, La�Dawna Sue Martin-Harris of Shawnee; granddaughter, Karlea Dannette Martin of Shawnee; one nephew, Marlin M. Swofford of McAlester; niece, Catherine Weaver Sharp; aunt, Pauline Wiley of Holdenville; and several other friends, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Shawnee resident Jack James Webb died Tuesday, Nov. 30, in Shawnee at the age of 73.

Webb was born Dec. 4, 1930, in Meeker to John and Martha Bingham Webb.

He was a 1949 graduate of Meeker High School.

On Dec. 20, 1949, he married Betty M. Simek in Prague.

He served his country with the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a helicopter pilot. He retired in 1986 from Tinker Air Force Base, where he assisted in the design of the AWACS aircraft and many other projects.

He was a member of Emmanuel Temple of Praise in Shawnee.

His parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of almost 55 years, Betty, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Monty Lamb of Branson, Mo., and Yalonda and David Loman of Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Dana Webb of Jenks; brothers and sister-in-law, Bernard Webb of Meeker and Frank and Wanda Webb of Tecumseh; sisters, Twyla Kinnett of Meeker and Edna Sears of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague until noon today and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today in Meeker.

Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Emmanuel Temple of Praise in Shawnee with the Rev. Monty Lamb officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker.

Shawnee resident Carrie E. Taylor, 77, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, in Shawnee.

She was born Jan. 7, 1927, in Troy to Albert T. Rowe and Lucy L. (Cordell) Rowe.

Taylor moved to Madill in 1943 where she graduated from Madill High School in 1945.

She worked as a sales clerk at Shoshones Jewelers and then with Hardesty Plumbing Co. for eight years. Later she worked as office manager for Patterson Motor Co. for 10 years.

Taylor was a member of First Christian Church, Xi Alpha Xi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International and the American Association of Retired Persons.

She married Max I. Taylor in Sherman, Texas, March 10, 1945.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two aunts, Virginia Greenwade and Alyne Henschke.

Survivors include her son, Jerry M. Taylor and Marilyn of Oklahoma City; daughter, Donna S. Keyes of Shawnee; three grandchildren, Tom Thompson and Jodi of Azle, Texas, Stacy Herron and Eddie of Shawnee and Randy Keyes and Amber of Shawnee; sister, Sue Stone of Rockledge, Fla.; aunt, Paralee Kovich of Ojio, Calif.; five great-great-grandchildren; and two nieces.

Harold Rogers

Lifelong Paden resident Harold Rogers, 82, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, in Prague.
Rogers was born Nov. 30, 1922, in Paden to George Washington and Bettie Evon (Jones) Rogers.

He worked for many years as a driller in the oilfields.

Rogers served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served on the hospital ship, Wisteria, and was decorated for his service in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations.

He married Wilma Muncy May 29, 1948, in Paden.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma, of the home; sons and daughter-in-law, Steven and Debbie Rogers of Adair, Jeffry Rogers and Brenda Daniels of Paden; daughter, Jennifer Kim Rogers of Paden; grandchildren, Joshua Rogers and wife Gina of Pryor, Amie Orcutt and husband Clifton of Choteau; great-grandchildren; sister, Thelma Dawson of Paden; sisters-in-law and their husbands, Odrey Muncy, Maxine and Floyd Raines, Betty and Barney Robison and Toots and Mac Fowler.

Gordon Biswell

Former Shawnee resident Gordon Biswell, 68, died Thursday, Dec. 2, in Stillwater.
He was born March 23, 1936, in Union City to Oscar and Verna Biswell.

Biswell received a bachelor's degree from Oklahoma Baptist University and a master's degree from Central State University. He began his teaching career at Shawnee High School in 1958.

In 1970 he was named Teacher of the Year for the Shawnee Public Schools. He taught school until 1987. During those years, he served as athletic director for Shawnee High School and various other administrative positions, including vice principal of the middle school.

He grew up on a dairy near Union City and continued raising registered shorthorn cattle until 1988. He was a 40-year member of Fairview Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, chairman of the deacons and treasurer. He had subsequent careers in the oil business and in property management.

He was a member of many charitable and conservation organizations, including Ducks Unlimited, Quail Unlimited and Nature Conservancy. He was an active volunteer with NatureWorks in Tulsa at its annual art show.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Macsene Biswell of Stillwater; son and daughter-in-law, Wade and Kristy Biswell of Tulsa; grandson, Conner Biswell; and sister Betty Jo Hill of Oklahoma City.

Service will 2 p.m. Monday at Fairview Baptist Church with the Rev. Chuck Utsler officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service of Shawnee.

Jimmy Dale Kalivoda

Harrah resident Jimmy Dale "Curly" Kalivoda, 26, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, in Shawnee.

He was born Jan. 22, 1978, in Norman to Donnell and Kathy (Sturgis) Kalivoda.

He was reared in southwest Oklahoma City. He had lived in Harrah for the past five years.

Kalivoda attended Southwest Christian Academy in Moore.

On Jan. 10, 1998, he married Toni Renee Klinglesmith in Oklahoma City.

He was self-employed.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, James Kalivoda and Ken Seckel. He also was preceded in death by a grandmother, Rose Sturgis.

Survivors include his wife, Toni Kalivoda, of the home; son, Cody Kalivoda of the home; parents, Donnell and Kathy Kalivoda, of Oklahoma City; sister, Danielle Kalivoda of Oklahoma City; grandparents, JoeAnn and Johnnie Carey of Oklahoma City and Glen Sturgis of Tecumseh; great-grandmother, Evelyn Adams of Oklahoma City; mother-in-law, Janice Klinglesmith of Harrah; and other family.

Fred Allen Bushyhead II

Shawnee resident Fred Allen Bushyhead II, 33, died Thursday, Dec. 2, at his home.

He was born Aug. 2, 1971, in Midwest City to Ina Rae McClellan and Fred Bushyhead. He attended school in Shawnee and Manitou Springs, Colo.

Bushyhead was an artist and champion Native American dancer. He was a member of the Sac and Fox, Cheyenne and Creek tribes. He also was a member of the Native American Church and American Indian Culture in Colorado schools.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ernest Bushyhead; father, Fred Allen Bushyhead; and grandparents, Hattie Pakoska, Ernest McClelland and Allen Bushyhead.

Survivors include one son, Fred Bushyhead of Woodland Park, Colo.; mother, Ina Rae McClelland; sisters, Ina Raye Bushyhead of the home, Carla Lynn Davids, Chicopee, Mass., and Raylene Little Wolf, Minneapolis, Minn.; brother, Ronald Davids, Milwaukee, Wis.; grandmother, Elsie Bushyhead of Shawnee; grandmother, Susie Salazar of McLoud; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marel Baker Coose

Prague resident Marel Baker Coose, 93, died Thursday, Dec. 2, in Okemah.

He was born Feb. 6, 1911, in Nady, Ark., to James Coose and Etta Elizabeth Coose. He attended school in Nady, Ark.

He was married in 1932 to Delle Priest. She preceded him in death.

Coose lived in the Prague area for the last 20 years. He was an independent sales representative for many companies for 45 years. He was a retired farmer and cattleman.

He also was preceded in death by his second wife, Joyce Coose; one son, Benny W. Coose; four sisters, Letty Kronz, Virginia Mead, Thelma Bonner and Mable Childers; and two brothers, Garlan Coose and Clifton Coose.

Survivors include two sons, Renan Coose of Riverside, Calif., and Edwin B. Coose and wife Kathryn of Shawnee; one daughter, Syble Sherborne and husband Jim of Fort Worth, Texas; stepdaughter, Linda Green and husband Larry of Prague; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lee T. Ison, 99, of Midwest City, passed away on Thursday, Dec., 2004. He was born to Josh S. and Dora (Worley) Ison on Sept. 17, 1905 in Harrodsburg, KY. Lee came to Shawnee, OK in 1926 from Kentucky then moved to Midwest City, OK in 1996. Lee was a furniture salesman. He was a member of the Shawnee Lions Club, Pottawatomie Co. Historical Society, and involved with Mobile Meals. Lee was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Shawnee and then transferred membership to Wickline United Methodist Church in Midwest City. Lee's love of music got him involved in the church choir.
Lee is survived by his son, Dr. Lee A. Ison & wife Jean of Midwest City, 4 grandchildren; Dr. Rick Ison & wife Debbie of Allen, TX, Ron Ison & wife Amy of Edmond, Randy Ison & wife Susan of Oklahoma City, and Rodger Ison & wife Angie of O'Fallon MO; 3 great grandchildren Drew, Carley, and Caleb; sister Edna Edwards of Ashland, KY.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents and wife Kathryn.

Eula Mae Crawford

Shawnee resident Eula Mae Crawford, 84, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, at a local nursing home.

She was born Dec. 12, 1919, in Jacksboro, Texas, to J.A. Vanhoose and Ida Womack-Vanhoose. She married Ira Thomas Crawford on Aug. 16, 1941, then they resided in Shawnee.

She worked as a housekeeper at Shawnee Medical Center and had had been a member of Liberty Baptist Church for more than 50 years.

Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, two sisters and a brother.

Surviving are son, Harold Gene Crawford of Daytona, Fla.; brother, John Wade Vanhoose; and sister, Lydie Joiner of Overton, Texas.

Service will be 3:30 p.m. Monday, Dec., 6, at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Larry Duane Smith

Jones resident Larry Duane Smith, 61, died Friday, Dec. 3, in Jones.

He was born May 27, 1943, in San Diego, Calif., to George Thomas Smith and Jessie Louise Sims Smith.

He lived in Ohio before moving to Davis, where he graduated from Davis High School. After graduation, he lived in Shawnee, Oklahoma City and the Jones area.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, David Leger; and sister Pam Goddard.

Surviving are sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen and Gene Reed, Shawnee, Linda and Jerry Meyer of Okmulgee and Shari and Craig Morgan, Tacoma, Wash.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gale and Jody Smith of Lee�s Summitt, Mo., Jeff and Peggy Leger, Oklahoma City, and Russell Leger of Oklahoma City; stepfather, Albert Leger and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Cully Drake-Kirkham

Shawnee resident Cully Drake-Kirkham, 100, died Saturday, Dec. 4, at her home in Shawnee.

She was born Dec. 13, 1903, in Nebo, Okla. (Indian Territory) to Addison Bunton Drake and Novella Saraner Pounders-Drake.

She married Clifford Kirkham July 15, 1924, in Oklahoma City, where they lived until moving to Shawnee in 1930.

She worked in Shawnee as a nurse and a dental assistant. She had been a member of University Baptist Church since 1970. She was a published poet and was a charter member and the last living member of the Oklahoma Poetry Society. She also was a member of the Shawnee Writers Club and had been a Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church in Shawnee and had visited the Holy Land in 1969, 1972 and 1974.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Sherry Holloway.

Surviving are brother, Kermit Drake of Shawnee; sister, Selma Drake of Shawnee; and two nieces, Addileen Ashworth of Shawnee and Karen Perry of Longview, Texas.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Gaskill Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Glen Pence officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill Funeral Home.

Gladys Joan Bertram

Shawnee resident Gladys Joan Bertram, 73, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, in Oklahoma City.

She was born Aug. 10, 1931, in Lemon, S.D., to Henry and Lilly (Weisvhaar) Mickleson.

Bertram attended school at Lemon, S.D.

She was married to Fred Bertram for 54 years and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, Fred Bertram; three sons and daughters-in-law, Max Allen and Julie Bertram, Steve and Sherry Bertram and Mike and Anita Bertram, all of Shawnee; mother Lilly Mickleson of Bethany; five grandchildren, Josh Bertram, Chris Bertram, Issac Bertram, Amanda Bertram and Christene Bertram; and one sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Doug Lane of Oklahoma City.

Elsie Mae Moore

Former longtime Shawnee resident Elsie Mae Moore, 75, died Saturday, Dec. 4, at her home in Cleveland.
She was born Aug. 23, 1929, in Seminole to Marion Ryan Gibson and Ira Jane Spencer-Gibson. She attended school at Earlsboro and later attended Shawnee High School.

On June 11, 1946, she married Walter H. Moore in Shawnee.

Moore worked at Hamburger King for 40 years. She was a member of Westport Baptist Church in Cleveland and attended Trinity Baptist Church while in Shawnee.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, George Gibson.

Survivors include her husband, Walter H. Moore, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Dwayne Cathey of Sand Springs; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Cheri Moore of Broken Arrow, Kenny and Greta Moore of Kingwood, Texas, and Terry and Evelyn Moore of Parkton, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Geneva Lofties of Shawnee, Helen and Clifford Sikes of Shawnee and Thelma and Harold Roberts of Muskogee; two brothers and sisters-in-law, the Rev. Kenneth and Mary Gibson of Van Buren, Ark., and Don and Johnnie Gibson of Shawnee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Gibson and the Rev. Clint Dawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Ida Eunice McIntyre

Shawnee resident Ida Eunice McIntyre, 101, died Saturday, Dec. 4, in Shawnee.
She was born June 6, 1903, in Locksburg, Ark., to John T. Rush and Margaret (Kennedy) Rush.

She did clerical work for Memphis Hardwood Flooring for 30 years. She was a member of the Central Church of Christ for many years.

On Aug. 1, 1934, she married Clyde McIntyre.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers; Guss, Harve, Jethro, Sidney, Abner and Riley Rush; four sisters; Tissia, Rena, Hulda and Betty Jo; two half-brothers; John Henry and James; and one half-sister; Alice.

Survivors include nieces, Gayle Ikard of Shawnee and Geraldine Culver of Catoosa, and other numerous nieces and nephews.

Herschel W. Teeples

Meeker resident Herschel W. "Pete" Teeples, 71, died Sunday, Dec. 5, in Oklahoma City.

He was born Jan. 20, 1933, in Shawnee to Alvin G. and Mildred Phoebe (Goss) Teeples.

He served in the U.S. Air Force and worked in construction.

In 1962 he married Betty J. Dashwander in Santa Rosa, Calif.

His father, daughter, Anita, and sister, LaDawn, preceded him in death.

Suvivors include his wife, Betty, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Barbara Rowe of Lebanon, Ore; daughters, Johnnie Joan Baldwin of Gernville, Calif., and Tammy Teeples of Sand Springs; brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Barbara Ann Teeples of Mustang; sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Ted Foster of Chelsea; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Meeker.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Meeker with the Rev. Joe Jones officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker.

Irwin Franklin Spooner

Prague resident Irwin Franklin Spooner, 79, died Saturday, Dec. 4, at his home.

He was born Dec. 5, 1924, in Ottawa, Kan., to Irwin Nestor and Ida (Miller) Spooner.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, three nephews, three great-nephews and one great-great-niece.

Survivors include his sister, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, and numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.

Tribal rites will be 10 a.m. today at the Spooner Family Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Prague

Wilbur C. Lewis, M.D.

Wilbur C. Lewis, M.D. died Friday, December 3, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born September 10, 1930, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, to Charles D. and Eula Cole Lewis, now deceased. An Eagle Scout, a photographer, a deacon, and an ordained minister, he was a graduate of Okmulgee High School, Oklahoma Baptist University, and the Oklahoma University School of Medicine. He interned at Harris Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, and had surgical residencies at the Dallas VA Hospital and the OU Health Sciences Center. Following his Dallas surgical residency, he spent two years in the Air Force as a Captain in the Medical Corps. From 1959-1970, he served as a medical missionary in the Baptist Hospital of Asuncion, Paraguay. After his return from Paraguay, he established a private surgical practice in Midwest City, 1970-1982, and in Oklahoma City, 1982-1993. During those years, he was on the staff and courtesy staff of metropolitan hospitals.

Following his return from Paraguay, he and six other professionals established the Baptist Medical-Dental Fellowship (BM-DF), an organization of Christian physcians and dentists dedicated to carrying health care in international settings. That group has proliferated and ministers to thousands throughout the world. He was also a member of the Christian Medical & Dental Society, an interdenominational group with a similar mission as the BM-DF. Dr. Lewis was also involved with other organizations which offered medical education to practitioners in third world countries, and he traveled widely providing educational assistance. In October, 1993, he was knighted by the Knights of Malta for his activities of benevolence.

Lewis married his wife, Gladys Sherman, January 28, 1955, at Exchange Avenue Baptist in Oklahoma City. They are the parents of Karen Lewis Kruger, David Lewis, Leanne Lewis Newman, and Cristen Lewis DeGraffenreid. Spouses of the children are Howard Kruger, Sadako Lewis, Carey Newman, and Mark DeGraffenreid. The Lewis grandchildren are Jason Lewis, Lisa Honn, Olivia Honn, Savannah Newman, Eliza Newman, Sam Kruger, Jake Kruger, Ezra Kruger, Erica DeGraffenreid, and Paul DeGraffenreid.

Other family survivors include Charles and Maida Lewis, Frank and Beverly Lewis, Rose Livingston, Minnie Sherman, Connie Burroughs, and nine nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at 11 a.m., with burial at Arlington Memorial Gardens in Midwest City. Visitation will be offered at the home, 2220 N.E. 131st Street, Edmond, Oklahoma, from 2-5 p.m. Sunday afternoon, December 5, and 3-5 p.m., Monday afternoon, December 6. Visitors should use the driveway on the west side of the house and enter by the furthest south door on the west side of the house. Shawnee resident Trinten Gale Stevenson, 15 months, died Monday, Dec. 7, in Oklahoma City.
Trinten was born Aug. 20, 2003, in Oklahoma City to Donald and Holly Stevenson.

Survivors include his mother, Holly Stevenson of the home; grandparents, Shirley Shears of Shawnee, Don White of California and Jerry and Darlene Stevenson of Wellston; great-grandparents, Bob and Alma Stallings of Shawnee and Richard and Thelma White of Florida; twin sister, Trinity Stevenson of the home; and brothers, Dravin Powers of Shawnee and Gage Stevenson of Tecumseh.

Clyde Maurice Young

Tecumseh resident Clyde Maurice Young, 52, died Saturday, Dec. 4, in Oklahoma City.

He was born April 28, 1952, in Shawnee to Carl and Ernestine (Ervin) Young.

Young was reared in Brooksville and lived in Shawnee after graduating from Macomb High School.

He was a car salesman and was interested in small engine repair.

He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Winfield Young; and grandparents, Jack and Nancy Young and Corie and Lila Ervin.

Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Jason Young of Oklahoma City, Stewart and Tia Young of Oklahoma City, Clyde Andrew Young of Shawnee and DeWayne Doakes of Denver, Colo.; daughter, Jessica Young of Tecumseh; fianc�e, Treva Brown of Shawnee; her daughters, Summer, Karen and Jessica Brown, all of Tecumseh; mother, Ernestine Young of Brooksville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce Chandler of Wilson, N.C., Virgil and Robert Winrow of Earlsboro and Kathryn and Lee Oliver; brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Betty Young of Shawnee, Clifford Young of Portsmouth, N.H., Sylvester and Triana Young of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Michael and Victoria Young of Shawnee; granddaughter, Gemini Young of Oklahoma City; and many other relatives and friends.

Faye Jewel Lowry

Faye Jewel Worley was born in the 600 block of North Louisa in Shawnee, Oklahoma, March 17,1915 (St. Patrick's Day). She was the daughter of Jim "Cap" and Effie Worley, who moved to Shawnee from Montague County, Texas in 1913. Her father was one of Shawnee's early firemen.

She lived her childhood years on South Oak Street and attended Horace Mann Elementary, Shawnee Junior High, and Shawnee High School, graduating in 1934.

She loved God and was a third-generation member of the Church of Christ. Most recently, she was a member of the Northridge Church of Christ.

As a young working woman, Faye knew just about everybody in Downtown Shawnee. She worked at the Shawnee Sample Cut and was an elevator operator at the old American National Bank Building on Main Street and at the Masonic Temple Building.

Faye met the man of her dreams, Cecil W. "Pete" Lowry in 1947, and after a few months courting, they married on November 1, 1947 and established a home in Shawnee. On OCtober 28,1948, their first daughter, Judy Ann, was born. Rita Faye was born in 1950 and Janet Sue was born in 1956.

Faye will always be remembered by her love of family and friendliness to everyone.. She made everyone fell special and welcome. She loved sitting on her front porch swing embroidering tea-towels which she gave to friends and visitors.

Faye was preceeded in death by her husband, parents and special sister-in-law, Bertha Worley. She is survived by three daughters, Judy Ann Hartley, and husband Robert of Shawnee, Rita Faye Vaughn and husband Kenneth of Shawnee, and Janet Sue Waterman and husband Doug of Alva; six grandchildren, Bill Soffel of Richmond,Va, Brian Soffel of Norman, Marlene Thomas of Tulsa, Matthew THomas of Shawnee, Malinda Hartley of Edmond, and Naamon Keith and wife Theresa of Shawnee; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl H. Worley of Norman; and special cousin, Carrie Denton Corrick of Dallas.

Faye was a friend to many. Until the end, she remained close to life-long friends, Emma Lee Boyt, Louise Brady Wallace, and Vera Thompson.

The family invites friends to join them in celebration of the life of Faye Lowry at 2:00 PM on Wednesdayy, December 8, at Gaskill Funeral Chapel in Shawnee.

Jewel Augustus Rock

Shawnee resident Jewel Augustus Rock, 76, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, at a local nursing home.
He was born Aug. 11, 1928, in McAlester to James and Oma Rock. He worked as a warehouseman for Fleming Food Company.

He married Beatrice Jones who preceded him in death. In June 1998, he married Mahala A. Mongold, who preceded him in death.

Also preceding him in death are three brothers, James L., Ralph and Ronald Rock; and two sisters, Eunice Irene Rock and Wanda Lee Rock.

Survivors include two brothers and sisters-in-law, Alvis Rock of Stillwell, Glen and Rathene Rock of Oklahoma City and Lois Rock of Claremore; numerous nieces and nephews; four stepchildren, Sandra Brown of Bixby, Sharon Brundage of Shawnee, Chet Mongold of Ponca City and Monty Mongold of Oklahoma City.

A memorial graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Fairview Mausoleum under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Allin DeLain Overturf

Asher resident Allin DeLain "Oop" Overturf, 66, died Sunday, Nov. 7, in Oklahoma City.

He was born Dec. 7, 1937, in south Pottawatomie County near Wanette to C.G. and Flora (Cooper) Overturf.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. He was as aircraft mechanic superintendent and was stationed in Germany, Wichita, Thailand and Nevada. He retired from Tinker Air Force Base after 20 years of service. Following retirement, he also worked in garage door installation and as an auto mechanic.

He married Melvetta Worth June 7, 1958, in Enid.

Survivors include his wife, Melvetta Overturf of the home; son, Richard Webb of Oklahoma City; sister and brother-in-law, Arthena Kay and Joe Noble of Asher; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous friends and family.

Linda Lee McClellan

Shawnee resident Linda Lee McClellan, 54, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, at her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold "John Bull" Blalock and Noma Lee (Tidwell) Blalock, and one brother; Sherman Blalock.

Survivors include her husband; Benjamin Charles McClellan Sr. of the home, two sons; Benjamin Charles McClellan Jr. of Shawnee and Billy McClellan Sr. of El Paso, Texas; three daughters, Wenona American Horse of Pine Ridge, S.D., Tasha Brown of Shawnee and Linda Onzahwah of Jacksonville, N.C., seven grandchildren, six brothers and sisters; James Peach, Richard Blalock, Tina Halfmoon, Harold Blalock, Norman Blalock and Clifford Blalock.

Sallie M. Jernigan-Judkins, 87, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, in Midwest City.

She was born March 1, 1917, in Panola County, Texas.

She was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters, Court of St. Catherine of Siena, Oklahoma City.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Nelson Oglesby and Scott Lovell; husband, Leroy Judkins; two brothers, Ralph Jernigan and William H. Jernigan; sister, Nancy Ratton; and half-brother, Kenneth Tucker.

Survivors include her son, John Oglesby and wife Catherine; stepson, Dallas and wife Linda; stepdaughter, Patty Keas and husband Don; two half-brothers, Harold Atkinson Sr. and Venchel Tucker; half-sister, Eula Page; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tecumseh resident Dwayne Alan McSperritt, 35, died Monday, Dec. 6, in Norman.

He was born June 4, 1969, in Shawnee to Joe and Carolyn (Jackson) McSperritt.

He graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1987.

He worked as a food service manager of Kentucky Fried Chicken, for Sonic from 2002 to 2004 and currently at Thunderbird Casino.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Darrell McSperritt.

Survivors include his son, Joshua McSperritt of Shawnee; mother, Carolyn E. McSperritt of Tecumseh; father, Joe McSperritt and wife Darlene of Carthage, Ill.; three brothers and their wives, Danny and Lisa McSperritt, David and Michelle McSperritt and Doug and Mattie McSperritt, all of Tecumseh; two nephews, Brian and Jordan McSperritt; three nieces, Ashely, Lindsey and Jessica McSperritt; former wife, Jennifer Creecy; and many friends and other family members.

Louise Northington

Oklahoma City resident Louise Penner Jones Northington, 84, died Monday, Dec. 6, in Pittsburg, Kan.

She was born Dec. 3, 1920, in Colony to P.K. and Mary (Duerksen) Penner.

She grew up in Sentinel, where she attended school and graduated.

Northington worked at Sylvania Electronics in Shawnee and Gibsons in Del City.

She was a member of the Methodist Church and the Veterans Women's Auxiliary in Oklahoma City.

She married Leonard Jones Nov. 10, 1939, in Hobert. He preceded her in death May 9, 1967. She married Norris Northington Jan. 19, 1971; he also preceded her in death Dec. 10, 1993.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; son, Ron Jones Feb. 9, 1993; and three brothers.

Survivors include grandson, Russell W. Jones and wife Patricia K. Jones of Tecumseh; granddaughter, Ronna Kay Wallace and husband Craig of Wichita; three great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Kay Jones of Shawnee; two stepchildren, Bob Northington and wife Sandy of Edmond and Debbie Moffette; two stepgrandchildren, Tony Northington and wife Missy of San Antonio, Texas, and P.J. Lea and husband Dion of Tuttle; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund in Shawnee.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Arlington Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City with the Rev. Sam Hendry officiating.
